If Guild Wars had a monthly fee...
Lord Garofoli
Would the game be better all around and would you still play? Personally I play Guild Wars due to the lack of a monthly fee.
SilentAssassin
1) There would be less idiots and pricks
2) I wouldn't play it, I hate monthly fee, I want to pick up a game whenever I want to

frickett
I wouldnt be playing.
Stormlord Alex
1) Probably
2) No... I'd either play WoW or (more likely) not play any mmorpgs.

Main reason for me to play GW and not WOW ......is because there is no monthly fee. If somehow we have to pay monthly in the future , I would quit playing GW ....

I initially picked up GW as a game without the fee, to see if I like the MMO genre. Rather than moving on to a pay to play game, here I am about 2 years later.
Paying to play would have probably put a damper on that, as there were periods where I dropped the game for a month or so. While I enjoy the game, a fee would have probably changed my attitude towards it.
Would the game be better? Maybe, maybe not.
Would I still be playing? If the price were the same compared to other mmo's, I might have switched to FF online, only to return to this one on occasion.
The ability to drop and pick up this game at a whim is a great boon to many players, and frankly makes the game more enjoyable to me.
But that's just my two cents

Yea, the reason i play GW is the lack of monthly fee
its a game i can just come home and play for a bit, solo or grouped.
no fee's, diablo 2 style.
if it had fee's i wouldnt be playing it, IMO its not worth a monthly fee, especially for the fact that its instanced.
So yea, i'd probably turn to another game.

I personally have no problem with monthly fees but i think the game is way too much grinding for fees... i wouldn't pay for couple of fow runs per evening

No and no .
dsnesnintendo
i would
1. walk outside
2. find a map to home depot
3. go into home depot
4. find ladder section
5. buy it
6. find a map to anet
7. walk up to the front door
8. reach to the top of the ladder
9. pull back my hand
10. and pimp slap everyone that comes to the door till they remove the fee

The Good:
-Developers would have a constant income which means that the mission pack would be free , there would be much more content such as sorrows and domain of anguish and we 'may' get a better service due to the money available for them to increase equipment and staff.
The Bad
-Pay to play , I personnaly dont mind if the game is good , when guild wars was first released I would have happily paid monthly because it rocked ,right now the games in abit of a freeze to eye of the north but if we did play monthly we'd get constant content most likely.
If GW2 has a monthly fee it will be a sustainable better game , if not itll be the same as guild wars , great for so long but will drain the fun. But Ive played guild wars since release and ive enjoyed 95% of my time in it and would have paid monthly fees just to clean the game up abit.

Anyway, Montlies dont get you rid of idiots.
Any kid spoiled enough to be problem has rich enough parents that will pay him monthlies so that kid is pacified by game and not making trouble.
Any adult will only be wrose as he would have that 'i am paying monthlies' as back up for any kind of selfish s--t.
Only good thing is that anet would have minute-to-minute feedback if they mess up hard (people canceling subscriptions). No more teehless good bye threads, but putting money where your mouth is.

no,no,no.....
Would not Play any M.M.O. (Played WoW and Hated it!!!!!)

Well the game would be better because there are none of those people who think that they are better than you, no i would not consider playing guild wars anymore...
Tea Girl
i will pay to play good pvp
Aera Lure
The upside is there would (hopefully) be more content more often. I would play it, but likely only for a few months. That's most often what I do with monthly fee games. I just cant see paying monthly to play a game.
Westofeden
I might pay to play the game the way it was before it was nerfed into the ground but as it is now theres no way I would pay to play.
Jetdoc
No, no, and hell no.
free_fall
As p/o'd as people get now over nerfs and other changes, can you imagine what it'd be like if we were paying monthly fees?
Dougal Kronik
No, would'nt pay a monthly fee to play any game.
Etta
I always wonder, how do all the kids in WOW pay the monthly fee? Rich parents or child labor? Anyway I had enough bills to pay every month and rather not pay another bill for a game. Pick up and play not pay to play.
Iuris
If I see "mothly fee" anywhere near a game title, I don't even spare it a second glance. I might, at best, download the trailers and similar.
The only exception is Hellgate:London, and that intends to offer single player plus at least some free multiplayer. And even there, I count it as a bit of a betrayal.
On the other hand, I'd gladly pay 200$ or more for a lifetime account or a reasonable game.

The reason I play GW is no monthly fee (I was choosing this or WoW). But then again the devs seem very slow in updates (lack of resources maybe); pve updates are poorly designed (DoA, HM, etc), skill imbalance has ruined pvp. I dont know, I prolly would pay small fee if they can update the game properly.
glountz
If there was balanced PvP, an <Auction House, free content added every 6 months (meaning free factions ,free nightfall, free GW:EN), I would pay monthly fee.
Ivan Aidrann
Even though this question has been asked many times, I still find it difficult to answer.
I'm torn between:
1] I'm already hooked, I would pay up
or
2] If I'm going to be paying for a game I'd rather try something else, like WoW or FFXI
Fortunately I don't have to worry about that since I doubt they would make GW pay 2 play. But if that time comes, I'll make my decision then

Absolutely not. I may be in the minority here but I don't buy the monthly fee excuse as "necessary to maintain the product". 50 bucks at the store, then 15 bucks a month just to keep things in reasonable shape to use? That has corporate greed written all over it IMO. There's a reason I don't play WoW, and it's not because I can't afford it. I'm not going to send companies the message that I'll sit and smile and pay whatever they'd like, and see a pricetag of $2000 on Playstation 6 in the future.
There were games that came with online play before WoW, and those games didn't require a monthly fee to maintain the online aspects. Those companies weren't going broke without charging that fee, either.
Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention.. I've got a friend who plays WoW, who has complained to me that he's sitting in a queue for 45 minutes. Can't even get in when he wants to play the game that he's paid 50 bucks + 15 a month for. I can't be the only one who sees something seriously wrong with that formula.

There's a fundamental problem with MMO monthly fees, above and beyond the "obligated to play" phenomenon caused by the fee itself: fee based games are by their very nature designed to waste as much of your time as possible. Look at WoW as an example. Very little fast travel, painfully slow walking speed, no quest arrows, slow-displaying quest text, and a thousand other things all designed to ensure that it takes ages to do anything. it extends the content of the game without actually, you know, requiring them to have more content. This is the reason I'll never pay a fee based game, the ratio of fun/time is lousy IMO.

If GW had a monthly fee, I wouldn't play.
If GW2 has a monthly fee, I won't play.
I brought this up in another thread about Micro-transactions. There is a very big difference between Micro-transactions and Pay-to-play.
IF GW2 goes the micro-transaction route, charging for bonus missions and items, that will be fine by me. Anet needs to make money to keep their game alive.
The difference is, I don't have to buy the bonus content to enjoy the game I've already purchased. As long as Anet doesn't force me to spend money, and it remains my choice, I'll buy everything I can from them.
It sounds funny, but it's true.

1) Less players. Not good. If there is idiots, you can always ignore them. And i think GuildWars have less idiots than WoW (example). 'Cause you must like playing this game and you must understand how GW works before you can get ahead in the game, there is no idiots.
2) If there would be monthly fee at GW, propably i haven't tried this game. But if i have tried, i believe that i play GuildWars. 13e/month (WoW) is not really so much for a good game.

P2P has one major advantage.
People would finally shut the red engine up about having to accept everything from A-Net as a beneficial gift and would stop watching them as a welfare company. You know... all that retarded crap that shows up everytime a valid complaint or even as much as a suggestion is raised. "We can't think Timmy. We're not paying any monthly fee so we are not allowed to think. Thats what they say on the forums Timmy".
Other than that... no. P2P is for the delusional people.
So you think in P2P there will be less bots. Want your bubble burst? Google up your P2P Game that you think has less bots. And google for Bots for that game. Wooops. Less Bots? Not quite the case. You think the people would be more decent? Browse official forums of other P2P Games and be amazed at how crappy people can get. The behavior is "Counter-Strike" all over.

I think the saddest part about Guild Wars is that it was bought by a bunch of people only because it had no monthly fee, and they would be playing something else if it did have a monthly fee. That tells you alot about this game and its players.
That being said, no I would never pay a monthly fee for this game or any other game.

Yes, I would pay a monthly for Guild Wars. Anything for more than one goddamed skill balancer.

No way in hell.

I managed to live before GW and if it was P2P i'd manage without it but it would be a terrible death to a great game
I go Uni next year and it's not really in the budget

Oh btw ANET Compleately hates grinders. Thats would be another reason. WOW loves grinders like me. Probably even I like my guild very much fee might make me switch. NOT BECAUSE I DONT WANNA PAY BUT BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE THE LAST BAD THING FOR ME THAT ANET MADE. All hail to old loot system and Say SUMMON BACK THE OLD SYSTEM

yes and yes
are you people that poor?

Pay for GW?
LOL! nah, I haven't seriously played the game since before Factions..
I have paid for other games though
WoW - Too much grind for me.
EVE - Too time intensive.

If GW was as much fun as it was originally, I'd consider paying a Monthly Fee.
The way the game is now? No Chance.

I am unmoved by the 'less idiots' argument - how are rich brats less annoying than poor brats precisely?
To address the 'how poor are you?' question - I must regretfully answer 'quite poor enough already'.
No I wouldn't pay to play - because I am already satisfied the current ANET business model makes them sufficient profits.
Much kudos goes to Guild Wars for breaking the stranglehold of pay to play commercial MMO's, and for that many cool people have got to experience a different type of gaming they would not have tried before.
