Please... gw doesn't even come close to some of the top notched rpgs in terms of story or even engagement. The character development is weak at best and the item system is laughable. The only saving grace is the now mediocre pvp that begs for fixes

I used to buy a game or two every few weeks in the hope of finding a good game. Now that i'm hooked on to WoW i don't even go into game shops anymore.
So I guess the monthly fee sorta isnt a big deal cause you would be probably wasting more money on other games anyway.

That pretty much sumerizes my opinions on the matter. To me GW is an action game once you get to level 20. Very little character development, have the best stuff way before the end of the game, and you just have to go through and figure out the nuances of each level. Real RPGs, like the all the ones already mentioned, will always have a leg up. Single player RPGs can develop a world and a story line that is engaging and that can draw you in that a MMO can't. MMO's have to make the story secondary otherwise people would stop playing after the story is over.

Statement: I enjoyed making weapons of mass destruction in WoW, but mostly limited myself to killing ignorant meatbags, instead of other semi-sentients.

Continuation: Guild Wars however, had the elegant simplicity of the dual-class system and the limitation to 8 skills, which encourages such magnificent creativity on how to terminate meatbags of all types.

Statement: However, currently I am engaged in LOTR Online, which allows me to create weapons of mass destruction and grind meatbags.

Continuation of previous statements: We are excited about GW:EN, and GW2. The minions, especially, remind me of my fellow lesser droids, except for my master's lamentable habit of blowing them up. However, they do terminate meatbags, so I do not complain TOO much.

Clarification: GW is an RPG, albeit one that has a strong focus on build concept, and cooperation with a team. The fact that it's an MMO simply infuses more of the average meatbag's opinion on what is a good build, and therefore, has a wider impact on what kind of team that build will fit well within. We choose to call this "Meatbag Error," or perhaps, "A Comedy of Meatbag Errors." Thankfully, my Master built me perfectly.

No, But whenever i play a new mmo i compare it too much with GW , things i see GW has that the game would be much better with and stuff like that.

The only way GW has done that has been through the animation. GW has some of the best animation I've ever seen in an RPG, and I really compare a lot of games to it. It's annoying.

Pretty much.
It is an amazing game - but is sadly getting trashed by the very people who made it.

Single player RPGs still rock to me. Kotor, Fallout comes to mind.

However, if you are talking about MMOs or MMORPGs, then yes, GW has spoilt all other MMOs and MMORPGs for me. I can't stand grind, be it for levels or for items at all now. Funnily though, I am trying out Dungeon Runners now and so far its a good switch from GW from time to time. Although it is relatively a very grind oriented game. But the randomness of the dungeons every time it gets reset makes it seem a little interesting.

It'll never beat Planescape: Torment.

Of course, nothing ever will, so I guess that's not fair.

What can change the nature of a man?

Yeah, I still play plenty of other RPG's, at the moment I'm really looking forward to Mass Effect and Lost Oddyssey, the 360 has a lot of really great RPG's coming out this year. Dragon Age on the PC is looking awesome too, if they ever decide to release it.

But recently I did decide to look for an MMO to play, so I was downloading trials to pretty much every one in existance, and I was pretty much comparing all of them to GW. My main problem was that none of them really seem like value for money, and I just couldn't justify the monthly fee, none of them really compared to the fun I have with GW or even receive the same amount of upgrades and updates. The only exception to that was WoW, which I did enjoy and played for a while, but I still prefer GW and having to pay monthly and then cancel your account whenever you decide to stop for a while is just a pain..

I'm looking forward to Star Trek Online, but again, the monthly fee will probably drive me away, I really don't understand why so many companies feel it's necessary, especially after GW has been so successful.

Guild Wars didn't ruin "other" RPGs for me, for it's RPG part really doesn't call for involvement. I do however buy less other games now, but that's because I have a guild to attend to.

My thoughts exactly. GW2 would be quite a limp MMORPG without the things I bolded in the quote.

Guild Wars is the first and only MMORPG I ever played. The monthly payment of other MMO's kept me away from them. And I like Guild Wars for it's excellent playability, good storyline and great graphics. I feel no need to try other MMO's because I rather build on my accievements in GW.

Things I don't like in Guild Wars is that it's too much focussed on skills, the low level cap and the fact that high-end weapons, items and armor do not provide better statistics. I would love to see that dedication is not onl rewarded with nice looks and titles but also with a (somewhat) better character.

Long story short, a few days ago I was hesitant to start a new FFX game because I knew I might get hooked again and that would give me less time to play GW. The thought was only there for a second, then I decided to play FF anyway.

Still though, it goes to show that GW did something to me

I've never played any other mmo long enough to get attached to it, so guild wars is the best i've ever played.
I tried finding another but it's hard, i love the absence of grinding (well nearly), the max weapons...
If any of you know a game like this please pm me
