Maybe, if you really worked with them, you'd know that "retarded" is not an acceptable word. As someone who works in the field, you should know better then to use "retard".

So my advice is just to ignore it, sure it will make then say more insults but thats just because they are getting angry as the aren't getting a reaction out of you :P
I am not condoning how the OP was treated let me make that clear.

Yes it is admirable he has learned English. And as you say an insult to other countries if you go there and expect English to be spoken.

And there is the main problem here in So. California. The Hispanic language is shoved down our throats day after day after day. There is no respect for the United States in their learning English. Most refuse. And no this isn't speculation it's fact. Again I do not condone what was done it was rude and cruel. I do understand the frustration and anger behind it. Even though that anger is no call for what was done

Rednecks play Guild Wars too. Unfortunately, ever since the whole immigration issue heated up, you're going to hear a good amount of this bull, especially in PvP areas.

It's an international game, so people can deal with it. Since it was AB and a guy from outside the alliance, there really wasn't a way to keep it in a private area. Report and ignore the guy. Don't let the morons get to you. I have to admit that playing in The Deep with a majority of Korean players/Korean in chat was pretty amusing. ^_^

How to deal with Rude people ? Insults ? Bad attitudes ?

For the most part in-game and in real life you can't do a dang thing about them. So I would say just ignore them. In my own experiences though the P vs P crowd is far more mouthy and insulting then the P vs E crowd but each side has bad eggs to start with.

BS, just report scrap, and make em pay for their deeds, ignoring does not help to improve the world. Too many people ignore problems of every degree, and that is what is changing societies into groups of egoistic selfcentered individuals. It has nothing to do with politics, but more with what can be achieved by intervening. But in any circumstance you still need to start with action, you can't expect ANet to do anything if they don't know about the (specific) problem. Taking responsibility (and thus reporting for instance) is a good thing. I'm not aware how severe the word "beaner" is (I'm not a native speaker), but for me, racism and obvious discrimination induce the report reflex.

Gladiator is Random Arenas. RA is like how PvE people figure out that PvP is much harder and quit Gw, it is in no way that basis of the PvP culture.

I agree with KcP's post almost entirely. People, no matter if you come from sheltered 'live with your parents in their basement' lives and can't deal with shit in real life, you need to learn. The world is always about people trying to get their 1up on you, and they'll bring you down in whatever way is needed to do that. You need to be able to surmount that of your own merit, not be a pansy and look for some higher power to sort it out. Because honestly, if you've already resigned yourself to reporting something, you've basically admitted that you're too inept to deal with something yourself and you have to go 'cry to mommy' to deal with it. When I grew up, kids like that got repeatedly beaten up when their 'mommies' weren't around. I guess you might be one of those kids too. I'm sorry about that, but seriously, get some balls and some confidence and deal with stuff yourself.

On another note, OP, I think what you did by shutting that guy down was awesome. That's exactly the kind of thing that people should do, defeat idiots with logic. If they realize how much of an idiot and an asshole they're being, people usually get humiliated and shut up. Make that happen. That invokes more changes to personality than some random 72 hour ban with error code 45.

Are you for real? Tell me, how does one 'deal with it'? Pretend nothing happened and congratulate yourself on being 'tough'? Talk back some 'tough' talk? 'Suck it up', 'grin and bear it', count the hairs on your chest? Quote the size of your penis? Any other playground-lifestyle tips you want to share?

Engaging idiots in conversation lowers you to their level. They've won as soon as you acknowledge them. Changing their personalities? Yeah, that's going to work, sure. A good telling off in an online game's chat, that's really a formative experience that changes a person's core personality and lookout on life. Maybe they'll even find Jesus.

Ignore, screenshot, report. That's the three-step program that works. The report you slap on them might even be the one finally resulting in a permanent ban if they're big enough idiots, but removing one for even as little as 72 hours is a good thing.

I’m 48 the end of this month and can usually find this sort of behaviour from adolescent morons easy to ignore, (you mellow as you get older). However, some younger members in the guild have got quite upset in the past.

I get annoyed when I hear people say it’s all part of on-line gaming, not as far as I’m concerned it’s not!

I strongly advise all to screenshot it and report all abuse, and in particular racist remarks.

I certainly do not want to start a flame war and every one is entitled to their opinion but you sir need to stop watching Fox News. First of no matter what part of the world you come from it's called Spanish...not Hispanic, not Latino and certainly not Mexican.

Do some of these people have trouble assimilating of course they do. Just like every single other immigrant group that has come to the United States before them has. Its a fact that a country that was built on immigration has to contend with.

Some groups assimilate faster than others, and it is only normal that they would seek out things that are familiar to them until they are used to life in a new country. For people all ready here it is easier for them to cater to a never ending customer base. Also immigrants from Latin America tend to spread out. As opposed to many if the Asian cultures that tend to populate and stay in certain areas the Thats why some people feel like they are being beat over the head with the Latino Culture.

Remember the immigrant base as a whole provides billions of dollars to the US economy. So what I'm saying is like everything else in the world it comes down to how much money can i make from this. and whats the quickest way possible. No one is trying to disrespect any one. They just seek out whats familiar. I mean wouldn't you guys do the same if you went some where else trying to find a better life for you and your family?

How about not being such a drama queen? Its just a game! If you get affected by some random dudes insult so easily, then maybe you should clam up and ignore him. This is just a suggestion -because you did make a thread, and if you take what I say to heart.. it could be a life lesson. There are always jerks around, act accordingly or you will have a much more rugged time in life. Certainly do not get a third party involved.

Just a quick question.

What about people who are unable to/have trouble learn(ing) new languages?

I myself have been taught French (for 5 years), Mandarin (for 6 years), Greek (for 1 year) and Latin (for 1 year). However, I can't speak, write or read any of them for the life of me. So is it ignorant for me to want to have someone who speaks English?

If I'm reading your post correctly... if you're having problems learning a language, wouldn't you think that other people do too? It's also one thing to prefer being around people who only speak English or ask people to when you need to know what they're saying in a party and another to curse out people who aren't speaking it.

And though it says American districts, I'd imagine that it isn't limited to the U.S. (think Americas instead of United States of America), since there's Spanish, as well as several other languages in Mexico, Central America, and South America and French in Canada. You also obviously have smaller populations of other languages, though I haven't really come upon those in American districts, yet.

If I went to a different country I'd respect their culture and try and learn their language.

@ gasmaskman

If you think only Legal immigrants keep the economy going you are sorely mistaken my friend. It is a general known fact that if you work and live in the U.S. you pay taxes. You pay taxes on the gas you buy, the clothes you wear and sometimes the food you eat whether you are here legally or not. The government does not care where the money comes from as long as it gets their money.

As far as people respecting culture and learning the language, there are a record number of people applying for an becoming US citizens. And guess what you have to learn the language and the history and culture of the US to become a citizen. If becoming a citizen of a country that is not your own is not a sign of respect I don't know what is.
