it would be nice to see punishment for leechers and leavers in AB. Can't wait to see this in action.
Big_Iron
All these people crying about being penalized for leaving RA. Seriously, if you’re that serious about PvP, go do TA, GvG or HA. RA is meant for some quick not-so-serious PvP action. Personally, I prefer HA, but if I want to jump on for a “quickie,” I’ll get into RA for a few minutes. If I rack up some glad points in the process, it’s a bonus. I won’t even get into the definition of “random.” It’s been done.
Blackhearted
Finally, punishment for people who ragequit before the match even starts. This might actually make me look at RA as a viable arena again.

I do like the lose 1k faction idea though. Unfortunately there are some random cases where I've left. Just the other day I started a match and apologized to team cause my lag was so bad I couldn't do anything so I left. Despite this, I would gladly lose 1k faction once in a while due to legit reasons if it helps to get rid of leechers and other dorks that are out there.

First of all....**woot**
I doubt the 'lose 1k faction' idea is really gona be IT though unless our faction is allowed to go into minus figures....
Otherwise you're obviously just gona get a bunch a leechers/leavers with 0 faction receiving no penalty.
Then of course there are the people who dont care about faction at all, and are only in it for the Glad points...where is their penalty?
Its got to be something which will be of little consequence to someone leaving for a genuine reason..but all we can do is speculate and look forward to the change
Hopefully this will have some sort of Aspenwood/AB spin also.

Lose 100 faction each time you leave? 1000 faction is a bit much, some people will be like
"DUUUUH I LOSE FACTION WHEN I LEAVE EARLY I DON'T THINK IT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH LEAVING EARLY FOR NO REASON"
And then A-net email inbox spam?

Well if that 1k loss is the plan (which i really doubt), and it leads to Anet 'inbox spam'...."hoe noes I lose faction when I leave!!.." then it sounds like it would be doing exactly what it is intended to do, and discourage leavers. no?
Plus that still does nothing about the previous issue i mentioned about the people to whom Balth faction is no consequence. ~
Just hope whatever they implement is implemented well eh?

Roll the dice. Random Arena...Its random, deal with it.
Anet making you play when you don't want to play? Um...then don't play? If you're going to punk out on a team, don't join RA. Period. Take your ultra-sensative baby bottom to TA to grind your Glad points.

I think the leaver issue is much more complex than many people believe it is. Many people are looking at it subjectively, as it has wronged them more than anyone else. As someone already stated, there are more than one reason players leave RA matches.
I agree that the leavers who do so at the beginning of the match are a problem, but to FORCE people to stay in the match during an unwinnable situation is not making the game anymore fun than people leaving. Do you think its fair to force a team to stay until a time limit is reached in a situation where they have no shot of winning(like 4 healing monks)? And why need a time limit?? Most times, running isn't for griefing, its for kiting. Rangers have to kite warriors, and warriors always complain people run from them, like DUH. I think if a time limit is introduced, when it reaches 0, no one should win, if anything.
I think Anet needs to think of all these possibilities before they even try to change RA.

They're not talking about kiting C2K. They're talking about the last player on the losing side holding out and drawing out the match much longer than it should be. Sometimes people do it in hopes that the other team will get bored and just quit. I did an RA match a while back where the last man standing on the opposing team was a monk. He just kept healing and healing himself. Luckily, my team was fairly well prepared, otherwise it could've dragged out much longer than it should have.

I know for aspenwood currently,
Luxon ragequitting is more common than leeching
had 3 games last week in the same day where I was the last person playing on my team due to people quitting
I've won plenty of games despite people quitting but its rougher

I like to use the ranger vs. warrior example, because its the one I see the most in RA. Rangers with cripple and such just lock warriors down, and warriors can sometimes out tank the damage the ranger gives. If a time limit is introduced, it would be unfair to give a win to the team with the least amount of people, because the team with the most people might not deserve it. On the contrary, the 1 person is in an unwinnable situation and kites to stay out of the warriors attacks. Thats not grief, thats a no-win situation. And regarding a time limit, no one should win that.
The only time I would ever think of running = griefing is if the person in question equips all speed boosts and brings nothing else.

In my case, the monk was pure healer. With his other teammates down, he had no offensive capabilities. I assume his hard rez was already used as well because he never tried to rez his fallen teammates. So, to me, it looked like he had no chance of winning anyway.
I get what you're saying though. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I bolded all the reasons you should STFUAD! You and people who think like you are what made RA's so horrible for so long, now with this update stupid 1v4 runners and 55monks will lose without a 45 minute wait.

To all those who say that you should be allowed to quit if someone in your team leaves BEFORE, you don't know how to have fun.
A friend of mine was doing GvG one day and was left alone against 5. You know what? He trahsed THEM.

Though I'd make it that if either of these conditions are met, then you can leave without penalty:
- Someone else on your team has already left.
- The match has been running for 10 minutes, so you can leave if you think its not going to actually finish.

Other reasons to leave:
-u are not being ressed
-runners
-grievers
-leechers
-no arrivals
-not the first leaver
-lost fight, all signets used, last man standing
-many more i didnt think of in a 30 secs
-ow and IDIOTS

I must say I have great pleasure at reading this... It may mean a return to playability of Random Arenas and Fort Aspenwood for the FUN of it again...
Both were throughly enjoyable in the beginning when this kind of problem was not very prevalent. But as it got worse more and more the behavior of Rage leaving or just plain leaving or idling just made those aspects of the game unenjoyable to participate in at all. Hopefully this will sufficiently penalize these rage quitters to a point that it takes SO long for them to be allowed to come back into the queue for doing it that they will either go away or play as they are suppose too. And the new Idle system for Aspenwood sounds great... With the title grind it has gotten to be more and more a problem. So it all sounds good to me...

Softly Spoken Lies
So Basically, what I get from this is:
A. I am FORCED to play certain parts of the game. Dammit all to hell if I don't want to stay in a group with an idiot.
B. If my roommate is dying on the floor, damn him, I can't leave this RA match because my account might be penalized.
Why don't we complain about something else? Like, for instance...New guild cape emblems, more templates for hair\face. And wouldn't it be great if we had a day where you could change the way your char looked? No, instead we complain about Spamming in all chat (which btw, you can either A. ignore the person,or B. Turn allchat off. ) and Leavers in Pvp matches. Should someones account get banned just because they want to say something in allchat, not harming anyone? NO. Should someones account get banned just because they REALLY DO NOT feel like teaming up with this person? NO. Of course not. Yea, you'll be pissed off, but BANNING someone (for any amount of time) is B.S.

The suggested changes mostly involve penalizing leavers by locking them out of being able to instantly rejoin again. I'm sure that by the time you've taken your roomate to the hospital and come back home, you will be able to enter the arena again.

It looks like it's just going to be a brief time-out from arenas for repeat leavers.

Im glad they are going to punish leechers, thats great news for aspenwood. but this leaver thing needs somemore looking at, because its true, i dont want to be on a team when someone enter with a a/w and thinks its funny to wear festival hats and use frenzy heal sig.

Oh, and we'll all have to deal with the lack of common sense (turning off All-Chat) since it isn't as ubiquitous as it was ever before.
Softly Spoken Lies
Oh, Okay, My Bad. But, I think some of you missed the point. The Point is, everyone is complaing about stuff that doesn't need to be fixed (ie, spam filter) When they could be complaining about the content of the game. (IE, more emblems, etc.) Seems to me, the people of guild wars want the game stricter.
Guild Wars design teams are great and have much to offer. Why not suggest something you've been wanting? They made this out of their imagination, just think of what they can come up with.

Softly Spoken Lies As I understand it the penalty is really reasonable. something along the lines of the following.
Right now in RA you can hit enter and go into the arena match in a matter of a min or two. But if you have a penalty flag you get some time added to that wait interval. the more you do it the more the time increases as a penalty.
The only way to clear that penalty is to Play the match normally. What does this do?
1: People rage leaving repeatingly will have to wait a LONG time to start a match after say the 3rd time it happens in a row... Or something like that...
2: People do that will not want to wait around that long JUST to leave again and add more time to their wait interval.
3: Either the leavers will STOP, or they will move on to doing something else.
Now this does not mean that if you got an emergency and have to leave, or your parents comes and pulls the plug on you one time and that will end up a coded temp ban in the game; Whatever the reason. not at all. it may mean next time you play you may have to wait 5 mins for a round till play enough to recover your time interval debt back to normal. Thats more along the lines I think they are going with this.
This was the original proposal for this problem from several months ago. I think that is what they are working on now for implementation. Somehow I doubt they will do a Coded Ban for these actions as there is too many variables to consider for undoing it, and logistically it would be a hardship on the support staff to manage just that for the first couple months of it being on.
Consider Idle monitoring... The system detects a full rounds with no movement on a idle bot... The system auto kicks the player and flags a time penalty. People doing this nonstop, all the sudden will end up with wait times like up to or around an hour just to get into 1 match... Geee that will stop this problem pretty quick if you ask me...

@=HT=Ingram I have seen better solutions against leeching in which a player needed to participate to earn his share of faction. In that case killing/damaging opponents, being in the vicinity of a shrine while capping it would result in a share to faction, inactive leechers at the base would never get any faction again. Therefore leeching (old style) would be useless, now they need use bots, which is a bannable offense ^^.
LumpOfCole
Dealing with crappy players, at least you have a chance. That chance turns into no chance with leavers.
