Kind of a Big Thread
MSecorsky
Ladies and Gentlemen! Noobs and Noobettes! Gather together and boast of your titles and what it took to get there!
Let it be known to all the world that my mesmer is now officially Kind of a Big Deal!
Actually... this is meant to be more of an opinion thread than flat out boasting, but boasting can come into play. For example, the titles I got to achieve KoaBD are:
Sunspear
Elonian Protector
Elonian Vanquisher
Elonian Grandmaster Cartographer
Elonian Skill Hunter
... which I think makes up a pretty good base for KoaBD. But then I got to wondering... does KoaBD really mean anything anymore? With 'lesser' titles, such as drunkard, sweet tooth, LDoA, etc. (again, purely personal opinion on those being 'lesser' titles), what do people think about KoaBD... is it even noticed or is it like the common ant that barely sparks a neuron while you step the life out of it and pass on? Where, to you, do the "Big Deal" titles earn respect, or is the make-up of those titles more important?
With all the armbrace/banning/etc. stuff of recent history, this seems like a good diversionary thread to refocus on the game itself. So please feel free to share some thoughts and don't be afraid to boast a little!
... File this in the "Needs to Pay More Attention" bucket... I also notices last night that I'm sitting on 996 Gamer points.

Some of the people in my guild are on level3 of that, which is quite impressive I guess. As for me, titles are not my thing.
Coridan
i agree it all depends on your view on titles. I think its a great accomplishment. and KoaBD is a great title to have... so congrats.
Karlos
I know this is not a common view among e-peening gamers, but respect is deserved, it's not earned. Everyone deserves respect, whatever titles they may or may not have. Don't let the whole Tiger-emote culture get to you.
With regards to titles, they all take time, the easiest to get (especially if you have a healthy guild/list of friends) are survivor, the sunspear/lightbringer titles and the protector titles. The others require lots of money, time or both.
If I see someone in town with KoaBD I make no immediate judgement, they can be attention-hungry elitists, avid GW junkies, in good guilds that help them get titles fast or simply people who like to have something to work on as they play the game. It's up to them to demonstrate which kind of person they are.
Finally, titles do not necessarily indicate skill... I have seen people with 15 titles with half the skill of people with 5 titles. Much of gaining titles is having others to help you work through them quickly.

First of all, congratulations on KoaBD!
I got my KoaBD about a week or two ago:
Canthan Skill Hunter
Canthan Protector
Canthan GMC
Elonian Skill Hunter
Elonian GMC
I should get Sunspear and Elonian Protector before EotN is released. Hopefully I will be able to put some work into LB as well. With those three, plus Tyrian SkillHunter (therefore legendary), I will make rank 2 before Christmas(?)!
Personally, I am very proud of my KoaBD because it took me so long and I don't get to play that much. But I think KoaBD has lost a little bit of value due to the "Legendary" titles. Don't get me wrong, I think those are great and I can't wait to start getting those. But I do think you have to be rank 2 on the max title track before people start noticing. I remember back in the day (pre-Factions) when you freaked if you saw a KoaBD. Now I have mine, and no one has said a word except for a buddy that helped me work on it and another that I skill capped with.
I will still consider you a Big Deal! I know that some of us still "work" for it!

Choosing to work on my sweet tooth title is possibly the worst thing I ever did. But now I'm half way through to the max I can't stop.

It took me forever to get my Koabd on my wammo. Mainly I'm a many char player kind of guy, instead of only have 1.
Kind of a big deal doesn't say much any more these days though :/, it only says that you have a lot of play hours on that particular char.
Nowadays I don't show my koabd much because I have Legendary Cartographer which packs a bigger punch ^^(4 carto titles + 3 protector titles). I'm close to get koabd on 2 other chars too though

That's another thing I've noticed with Titles... I tend to focus on one character now instead of spreading the love amongst them all. Side effect of the title system and GW:ENs Hall of Monuments. I know now (pretty sure at least) that the HoM is account-based, but before knowing that I put my focus onto one main character to build the achievements up on to pass into GW2. Anyone else notice this trend in themselves?
julien
I have 25 max titles.. who care
upier
Even If I ever get the Kind title I'll never show it. It just doesn't do anything for me.
Golden FTW!
Although I'd KILL to have Connoisseur of Confectionaries!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!
Gratz on your title though!

anyway, I have KoaBD on my ele and I used Protector or Tyria, Protector of Cantha, Protector of Elona, Legendary Spearmarshal, Canthan Elite Skill Hunter..
I am working on Holy Lightbringer (extremely close to it) and Tyrian Elite Skill Hunter.

The thing you can tell about people who go after titles is that they're goal oriented, and that's a good thing.
Gratz MSecorsky... I was just wondering what you do in rl. Are you a writer? If you're a student, I hope you're focusing on your writing skills... you've got talent.
Karlos, you said, "respect is deserved, it's not earned" I love that. I've got "Respect" quotes on my bulletin board at work because there are a handful of people here (at work) who don't quite have a handle on the concept, and I like to put the thought out there for them... at least where their interaction with me is concerned. My favorite is by Einstein... "Everyone should be respected as an individual, but no one idolized." That's just what you said... basically.
I like to go after titles but not because I'm trying to earn respect. Respect starts with the self. I've got it. I like to achieve goals. I've got 12 titles right now and am close to Legendary Spearmarshall and a couple others. It'll take me forever because I'm not that keen on vanquishing (grinding) or repeating missions.
Gratz Mohnzh! feels good eh?
Lucifer UK... call me crazy, but I really enjoy seeing the sweet tooth and drunkard titles on people. Makes me laugh. I just don't want to spend that kind of money myself, or I'd probably go for it myself.
Gratz Mr Groovy... funny but I like showing my Legendary Cartographer better than my People Know Me title as well.
Julien = 25 titles... WOW! That's great.
upier... hope you're in a profession (or headed toward one) where you can use your ability to express yourself colorfully as well.
Molock, GRATZ!
And gratz to everyone else who posts after this who's gotten what they've gone after in the game.

Gratz to all and their titles. I've been working on one character from each of my two accounts, in anticipation of GWEN. Both have, so far:
KOABD
Holy Lightbringer
Legendary Spearmarshall
Legendary Skill Hunter (4 titles, counting one each of campaign Skill Hunter)
Protector of Tyria
One of the two characters has Protector of Elona, and just needs to master Eternal Grove for Protector of Cantha
The only title I bother showing is Lightbringer, as this adds benefits to dealing with Abaddon's minions. During this time my other 8 characters have been neglected

I'm trying to tie up a few lose ends on titles.
Hit KoaBD about 10 days ago:
Protector of Tyria
Protector of Cantha
Protector of Elona
Elonian Skill Hunter
Tyrian Skill Hunter
I have 7 caps left in Cantha, which would give me Canthan and Legendary Skill hunters.
Edit: I'm doing this on a Paragon.

That's how I got mine. I was going for Cantha explorer, and at 93.2%, it was just too tedious. I might do Elona as I've heard it's not as demanding. Only 10k away from maxing LB.
Maxing titles is still a big thing in my guild. As far as I know, I'm the first to get it (my guild leader didn't even know what the title was for), and a guildie was even boasting about it when I told him (quite embarrassing). It's kind of disheartening being with people who don't know so much about the game, but they don't take it too seriously either, which makes for a great atmosphere I can play in.

My necro is 5 Canthan HM missions away from KoaBD. Not bad since I've only been playing since November and I did it without getting a multi-title.
But in my honest opinion, I am much prouder of my PvP titles and my Legendary Survivor as those titles were more difficult to get and they show skill as well as the ability to title grind.

I've got 8 max titles atm:
Legendary skill hunter (4)
Cartographer Cantha and Elona
Protector Cantha
Sunspear
Hopefully this week I'll do the bonus of THK and explore around there which will give me Protector Tyria and (hopefully) Cartographer Tyria.
Titles are still something I like to do as I don't PvP any more and I don't really wanna run any more characters through storylines. I also still think that (in most cases) they're an achievement.

The elite skills were the only title that I was willing to spend gold on. The sweet tooth, drunk and so on would cost too much and are just boring and pointless (my opinion). I'm currently sort of working on cartographer for tyria. I've got about 94% and it's getting quite frustrating, but it's something to do.

I got to Im Very Important on my ele just working on titles in spare time, didnt really take that long and wasnt that hard, which is why its so common, a "lesser" title like LDOA takes way more effort imo, i couldnt stand the constant waking up to an error7 screen after death lvling, gave up on that one :P

I got KoaBD about a month ago:
Three protectors, and Tyrian and Canthan Skill Hunter.
Just two days before the new change to the favor system I got Legendary Spearmarshal and I am close to Holy Lightbringer and Elonian Skill Hunter.
As much as I would love to get the cartography titles, the shear number of mobs I would have to go through to wall hug would drive me nuts, just repeating some explorable areas on alternate characters drives me nuts because some mobs are so close together.

Jumping Is Uselss
Legendary Cartographer
Legendary Skill Hunter
Legendary Spearmarshal
Holy Lightbringer
all 3 protector
Guardian of Tyria
connoisseur of confectioneries
All the titles I maxed to get "Im very important". No more title grinding, 15 is max no need to go any more. (Will grind titles again when next tier is opened)
Im just happy in spending 800K for connoisseur of confectioneries instead of 2 mil.

connoiseur of confectionaries
i'm finishing up lightbringer and guardian of cantha (and, in turn, legendary guardian) just to even things out.

I've maxed 18 titles mostly by helping guildies do things. I'll probably wait 'til GW:EN to max 2 more titles because I want tier 4 of KoaBD, if they ever get around to adding them. Sad part being that I'll still probably wear Legendary Guardian or Ale-Hound anyway.
crazybanshee
Yeah, I got level 3 KoaBD on my ele, I really only play 1 character though. I don't show the title either unless people ask, I usually have my LB title on (for the bonus) or my vanquishing title because I think that means more. It's far too easy to get titles by being run through the game, buying gold and using it for money sink titles like drunk and sweets, for KoaBD to really mean much. I get more excited about seeing high level ab titles, glad titles, and cartographer or vanquishing titles because it means that person has made a concerted effort to excel at something. FWIW, I have the skill hunter, cartographer, protector, vanquisher, sunspear, lb, and am only a couple missions away from guardian.

11 Titles maxed, once I finish mapping Tyria it'll bump to 13. It will get hard after that.

I got 6 maxed so far
Legendary Sunspear
protector of tyria
protector of cantha
protector of elona
Tyrian grandmaster cartographer
Elonian grandmaster chartorapher
almsot finished exploring cantha, working on People know me.

I'm 4/6 (I think the same titles as Legendary Guardian). I'm currently (as in...right now) using tab spacebar to level SS/LB. I hate grinding but at least it's a grind that only requires "tab/spacebar" followed by an "alt-tab" to post on this forum.
I guess I'm sort of inadvertantly doing Wisdom too.

got lots of toons working on different titles.
my tyrian monk has the most so far with 5:
prot of all 3 chapters, and cartographer of tyria and cantha (at 95.8 of elona and still havent done the challenge mission there) and working on final level of sunspear.
My tyrian ele has 2: prot of tyria and cantha and 17/20 for elona. While working on her cartography titles 98.7 cantha, 92.9 elona and 91.9 tyria.
Most of my other 13 I play regularly have at least one title (usually a prot: cantha), while my elonian ele is working on survivor (has level 1), while the second easiest is sunspear (5 toons are over 20k points for that while 2 are seriously working on it).
I get tired of working with one toon, then I move to another for a while. My monk is stuck on the cartography since I wont pay anyone to find that last bit for him...so he will slowly find/grind out the last few corners for it.
titles that NONE of my toons are working on:
sweet tooth, skill hunter, vanquisher, gamer, treasure hunter, lucky/unlucky, friend of kurzicks/luxons (will get to level 1 so I get the skills soon!), champion and LDOA. My monk has started on the drunkard and wisdom titles (I got lots of drinks so someday when I am really bored I will work on that one again), though I doubt he will max either (level 2 almost 3 on wisdom, and a few hundred minutes on drunkard so far).

My view of titles has grown with my development as Guild Wars player.
When I was new and saw players with "Tyrian Grandmaster Cartographer" it really impressed me. When I played through the storyline and quests I started focussing on getting that title myself, and I actually enjoyed the time invested in it and seeing the percentage rise slowly but surely.
Now I hunted my way through all Cartographers, Lightbringer, Sunspear, Skill Hunters and Protectors and I think it's quite an achievement. But I also experienced that a title can lose a bit of it's shine when you actually get it.
But in the end, titles are in my opinion the highest thing you can reach in this game, because it really shows that you are dedicated to Guild Wars and invested a lot of time in it.
For now I took a break in title hunting The titles that are left seem to be too hard (Hard mode titles, PvP titles, Insane faction title) or too expensive (Drunkard, Sweets, (Un)lucky). I hope to become "very important" with the additional titles of GW:EN.

These are my guys. Not playing much GW these days catching up on the forums and waiting for GWEN.. The ranger has 19 titles and every skill in the game he is my oldest and dearest toon. The rit is a legendary survivor gotten the old school way (actually playing though the game). Mesmer will be working on the ale hound title next.

For me, the game really is 'Title Wars' It's the only reason I log in at this point, since I've slowly diverged from any PvP participation as the new campaigns have come out before I've had a chance to fully involve myself in all their new skills and PvE experiences.
My title obsession began with the introduction of survivor, when I QQ'd about how my current 'main' char would never be able to get it. So I made my first ever Ele, and began the efforts that have led thusfar to...
16 Max titles consisting of:
Leg. Survivor x1
Sunspear x1
Lightbringer x1
Cartography x4
Skill Hunter x4
Protector x3
Guardian x2 (Elona, Tyria)
Progress toward other titles, in order of attainability:
Guardian of Cantha 12/13 (Eternal Grove bah)
Leg Guardian 5/6 (see above)
Sweet Tooth ~7300/10000
Tyrian Vanquisher ~21/54
Kurzick Allegiance 8/12 (~3,200,000/10,000,000)
So obviously, my immediate goal is to finally complete Eternal Grove HM and instantaneous go from 16 to 18, then I've got Connoisseur dead in my sights. When vanquisher first was released, I tried to do one zone a day but it got too tedious and I've needed to take an extensive break. The 21 zones are mostly Jungle, North Kryta, and Ascalon.
My title obsession began with the introduction of survivor, when I QQ'd about how my current 'main' char would never be able to get it. So I made my first ever Ele, and began the efforts that have led thusfar to...

Eternal Grove HM took three tries for me and my teammate (heroway ftw). I was an offensive spirit spam rit that brought two necros and a monk (SS/SV necros and a Restore Condition Prot monk) while my teammate, a Monk, brought two MMs and.. forgot the other hero my teammate brought. Anyway, it wasn't too bad at all. The only kind of hard part was the flood of enemies at the end, and the trick is to let them come in a LITTLE bit but not too deep, but don't fight them at the actual gates or you're going to die immediately.
