I mean, come on... just do the math. In that Chunky showed off seven stacks of armbraces to Max Gladius in a trade window and in that he showed off in this forum (in Max Gladius's thread) by posting instructions on how to dupe, I really have a difficult time believing he wasn't showing off to his guildies as well when he gifted them with duped items. Chunky Monkey can't resist the urge to brag and I'm certain he bragged to his guildies.
And I'm sure ANet is not that easily fooled either.

If Anet expects people to be "aware" of this, there should have been an announcement on the Log-in page. Many people don't check the forums, how are they supposed to know whats going on?

There was nothing for ANet to warn people of in the login screen once they banned him and the other dupers and closed the exploit.
Yeah... thinking is over rated, but it's still something I like to do BEFORE I speak.

Quote from Gaile
We've found the people who duplicated items. Their numbers were really quite small. We banned them.
We found the people to whom the duplicated items were given in large quantities. Their numbers were somewhat larger, but again, relatively few. We banned them.
We are examining records to see how far this extends. We may be banning more in the coming days, but we will most likely choose to not ban more than we will choose to ban. The decision is ours and will be based on a lot of factors, principal being whether it's reasonable to assume that the player knew he/she was getting ill-gotten goods ..."
The last bits the killer - how can a player prove his/her innocence? High value items do get given away to guild buddies - Anet know that.
They will look back at your friends account - hopefully will see no history of duped items changing hands - and re-instate the account.
Other accounts that received the odd duped/bot farmed items for free or ridiculously low amounts have been reinstated - and some remain banned.
Keep putting the argument to Anet and hopefully she will get the account back.

If you have not already, please contact support with the necessary details, and hopefully you, or your friend's, case will be resolved, as applicable.
As with all of these types of threads, I'm closing it. There is no way the forum community can know the details of the going-ons, and the community has no bearing on the decision to uphold or overturn a ban.
Additionally, GuildWarsGuru is not a blacklist site. People often are confused on our policy on using names in text and image form; We do not allow them in negative contexts because, again, there is no way we can confirm it, and they also serve to start flame wars often.
If you have issues with a person, particularly when you believe them to have violated the EULA, if you have not already, again, contact support.
