Disappointments about GW:EN
PhantomNL
Hi,
I have to get a few things off my chest about GW:EN.
I am a long time player of GW - have already over 3000 hours in it and i love it.
So I was very thrilled about GW:EN.
Now I played the preview and I am very disappointed.
Why ? Read on ...
1. Hall of Monuments
I liked this idea a lot ... but it is a complete joke.
I have 14 titles on my charracter and I can't use none because not all are maxed. For example I got Vanquisher of Tyria.
Cleared 54 maps on HM and it took a great deal of effort.
I can't do nothing with it.
Every title U earn (if its maxed or not) takes a great deal of work.
And now I feel its useless.
2. Hall of Monuments (again)
Watch out : DON'T put your minipets in there .... they will get costumized !
Why ?
This is complete bullocks ....
I hoped i could put them there, save inventory space which isn't all that great and can hand a pet to one of my other 7 charracters when I want to.
NO can't be done anymore.
A guildmate of mine (didn't know this) borrowed a few minipets of another guildmate and now he can't give them back.
3. Copy & Paste
I was eager to meet the new enemies ...
I saw some whisps .. waht could they be ???
It were Djinns with another name !
Whats that ?????
Got no inspiration left ?
4. Minigames
They are fun ... no complaint there.
I realize this is only a preview and we havent seen everything but this preview doesn't leave me shattered with impatience until the release next week.
I hope there will be changes especially about the Hall of Monuments.
But as I see it now, guild wars will be over for me soon.

First, if you're only playing EotN for the hall of monuments, you're in for a series of disappointments. HoM is NOT the point of EotN. A new story with new areas to play is.
HoM will at best be a simple "Hey guys, I played GW1 too" in GW2. And perhaps the equivalent of a preorder pack - some nice items of average stats.
As for minipets: of the minipets are not customized, how do you prevent people from simply borrowing pets and immortalizing then giving them back?

Right, focus on the little dervish wisps who have different noises. Let us ignore the destroyers, the jotuns (giants), the-weird-things-that-are-like-smaller-grenth's-voice...

He's right though, most of the creatures in the preview event are just reskinned versions of other campaigns. I am dissapointed by this also.
Overall, I am greatly dissapointed in GW:EN so far. I have played all three campaigns through and been playing since the GW beta and this is so far, the least imaginative campaign/expansion yet in my opinion. So far, this one is worse than Factions to me, and that's really saying something since I thought Factions was VERY mediocre. I realize the whole campaign is not unlocked and I'm sure there is more to see, God I hope so.

I think Factions has the most original and striking designs of all three campaigns, shing Jea Island an the Kurzick areas being my two absolute favorite IG.
It was also the most innovative in terms of initial ideas - even if they weren't pulled off the way we all hoped they would - and it deserves credit for this, imo.
Let's wait to see how EoTn shapes up on proper release before we start with all the complaints.

How about 18 multi level dungeons, 40 new sets of armor, 100 new skills, 50 new PvE only skills, 10 new heroes, and (regardless of what you think of it atm) the HoM? Not that you sound ungrateful at all...
You've known the above were not to be included for some time, why whine about it now?

I agree with your 3rd point completely. WAY to many reskins, the wisps aren't even slightly different when compared to the djinn.
The new mandragors are pathetic too, because they're reskined mandragors, which in turn are reskined mantids.
Why can't Anet make the enemies looks as new and astounding as the locations in this game?

Why should anybody be "grateful"? They're not giving us a nice gift, they're selling us a product. I'm not "grateful" to them for taking my money for a video game. That's a very bizarre way to look at a monetary transaction o_0
I agree with the other guy though. They put some new records in a few databases and laid out new dungeons with a map tool. If any of that was at all complicated, they utterly fail at compartmentalizing code. Nothing that was added in this release is really unique to the game engine, it's just new skins, db records, etc. The real work was in the art and planning.
$40 is complete crap. All that tells me is that maybe their no monthly fees gimmick isn't working out quite like they thought it would and now they need some cash to develop GW2.
(Don't mind me, I'm pissed off about the tourney because I made the mistake of playing a Warrior... and we all know Warriors aren't allowed in any high level content...)
Kuldebar Valiturus
I never got that excited about HoM.
I look forward to GW2 and am not really interested in having a static vanity shrine based on a GW character. It's great that ANet is trying to address that particular segment of players that feel displaced by the new game, but it always seemed like a clunky idea to me.
I am hard pressed to find anything I am disappointed in, but it is only a preview event so the jury is still out.

All of those things are like nothing compared to what we got from Facton & Nightfall.
I remember when I played the NF preview event, I was very tired of GW and thought about quitting, but the NF event got me hooked, I loved it after only a few hours.
This preview - well I guess it's okay...

This preview - well I guess it's okay... I suppose I'm coming across that way a little. Cheap shot, though.
I don't by any means consider these games to be perfect; there's plenty of room for improvement and some of the additions Anet promised have come up feeling half-heated, but the manner in which the disappointments are being presented is far too aggressive.
And this is an *expansion* not a full chapter, so why should we expect the content to out-do what we've had before?
And grateful? I'm very grateful to Anet for providing a cheap solution to online pay2play, and for any content they add to a game I thoroughly enjoy playing. I don't think playing £20 for the content they've given us is that big a price to dispel all notions of thanks.

Because a few of the enemies are reskins, you don't think the game is worth the money? What about the awesome looking new environments, or the great new quests, missions, and dungeons?
If you really don't think the game is worth the money, then don't buy it. I think we'd all be happier that way. Cavaliera Nero Guts
The worst thing for me are the new titles, you need to get a high one to buy armors and other stuff, it wont be that boring getting them if they were as the Kurzick/Luxon ones for example, for the account, but doing all the same factions farming with all mine 13 characters would be bloody boring, hope they gonna change this.

Its all about accomplishment this new expansion, with the HoM and such. I don't think having to farm 56,000(!) Norn points, however, is appropriate for an armor set. Of course, I can't see how all the other quests and missions will work being stuck in this smaller area, but I'm thinking this particular thing should be adjusted down a little (2/3 is OK since I think the way the Norn fight and tell stories and rumble is pretty ok, but NOT THAT ok).
Otherwise, good job ANet. Now just fix the intense lag in EoTN. I was in a practically empty EoTN last night late, and you still moved like you were on ice. Swift Thief
Dude, the Hall of Monuments have really no effect on us until GW2 comes out, which is two years. That will be a huge amount of time for ArenaNet to fix the HoM.
TsunamiZ
i agree so far the expansion seems like its overpriced for what we will be getting...
Malakai1977
agreed, having to grind 56000 points just to be able to buy new armor is a a bit too much. Rank 3(8000) or rank 4(16000) would work
other then that in very happy with EotN so far, cant wait to see more Llint

Credits.Tell me you can do better then an entire team of people that are all made to make a game. I would like you to try and make a really good textured model and see how long it takes you. Then maybe you will understand why a lot of models are recycled. Then maybe after that, you can try designing a level for a game, pick up a game that can be modified and see if you can make a good level up to the standard of something of ANets. Then maybe you can repeat making a level 100 times over that is slightly consistent in that it fits the theme of the type of game, and inconsistent so it doesn't feel like its repeating. And see how long that takes you. Then maybe you can try to write a story. Then maybe you can try and write numerous abundant little quests that add filler to the story. And maybe if you want to take another step, write some engines for your game. This doesn't really apply to GWEN as most of the engine is already there (I am not sure if they added more coding to the engine in GWEN). The point? Making a game, or expansion is really hard work. And the employees need to be paid for their hard work. Zorgy

Nice...go back to Pokemon LOL In Holland you smoke too much dope...hehehe...make a break you will appreciate games better...joking !!!! 1/- HoM = 110% SHOW OFF.....stop admiring your NAVEL 2/- FOES = foe ====> if it was a circle or a triangle or a figure or a letter or a flying saucer... it would be the same. When I fight I dont have time to appreciate the colors of the feathers, or if the monsters use a special toothpaste to frighten me more..... 3/- Minipets = TOY ======> usually for kids below 10..... Imho the reasons invoked by you to leave GW are childish....or maybe you are just under 10. Stop smoking dope dude...it hurts EDIT: YOU are 37 !!!! omg.....I thought you were 6 I like dope as well I am just joking with my euro partner. " Drugs are boring us with their paradises, we expect a bit of KNOWLEDGE from them." (Henri Michaux) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henri_Michaux Drag0noX
Well buddy, i happen to like dope... what's wrong with a bit of pot once in a while?
I can understand if ppl are dissapointed with the HoM (even though i don't have the game i have heard things from guildies) maxed pvp titles? that is just ridiculous but it might just be for the preview wolfwing
Well just a point about Reputation.
You HARDLY need to grind, you get about 4k just cleraing 1 area, I have 15k right now, and most of that is just from doing quests and exploring a bti further in the area before moving on to the next part. Sure it's a bit annoying, but your going to be able to max them out within a week, or a few days. If I have 15k norn in 2 days, is 56k really taht tough? Bryant Again
Vekk and Ogden don't have a dance. That's probably my biggest and most notable disappointment so far.
Nian
I don't understand what the complaining about the price of the expansion is about at all. It's a one time only investment. It's not like you are being forced to buy gwen and we already have three standalone campaigns to enjoy. This game has no monthly fees and even though gwen may be popular at the beginning frenzy, buying it is not neccecary at all. It's like a big bonus pack for those who want more activity after finishing the other campaigns. I salute a game of this quality for not having monthly fees. It's pretty much the deciding factor to wheter I play this game or not.
I think the new enviroment is gorgeous and well done. I did notice a lot of reskins on the monster department but then again...what game doesn't have them? It didn't really bother me THAT much. The environment and norn alone are something I have wanted to see for a while now. As for the HoM, it's probably the only thing I'm disappointed at. I would have it rather be an account based feature than character based. I have tons of characters afterall and can't concentrate on one. (If I could have my way, more titles would be account based.) Then again I never expected much from the HoM and didn't even think it neccecary to begin with. It'll probably mostly be ignored by me. With GW2 I'd rather start fresh and anew anyway than have some kind of a silly status to raise my ego. P.S. I don't like how displaying armor doesn't show up as 'your profession's armor. wolfwing
Well there are a few new creatures to face so far, plus remember this is only one area of a few regions, we havn't been to the Charr or Asura areas, plus might be more deep underground.
JeniM
Shouldn't we wait for it to actually come out before the complaining?
Theres alot more to GW:EN than what we;ve had access too OlMurraniKasale

I didn't mind grinding for amber for Kurzich precisely because I knew what it would look like - not so with any of the armor in EoTN. Too early for that, but I will wait to see it on GuildWiki or somewhere before I go after any particular armor.
The depth of the Norn in incredible. You turn a corner and some Norn has a cool quest that uses landmarks and sign posts and skillsets that breach your profession-specific style. As a Rit, I was beating down the Destroyers with my wolf, ravine and ursine skills. It was fun. I only hope the Asure and the Ebon are as deep. Darkpower Alchemist
Ok, I don't know about you guys, but Killroy Stoneskin's Punchout Extravaganza was more than worth the price of admission. I LOVE this expansion. You're worried about reskinned monsters? Think of it as monsters that are splinters of a species. Elementals in Tyria? Why the hell not?
The white rabbit...don't follow the white rabbit!!! Magni is a pain, but I love figting him just as much as I love stalking the white rabbit into that pit of shadows. The Lady of the Lake...and you don't like the expansion? What about Jora? I love Jora...Ok, putting my fan boy box away. But, honestly, the expansion isn't out yet, so your view is very limited. Give it a chance, or leave the populous to have fun without you. Bryant Again

Lol, let's hope so!
I will say that I was not a big fan of Kilroy's "fist-fighting" whatever it was. I didn't like that I could simply mash 1,2 and 4 repeatedly and be successful. Got a little interesting with the master quest, though, and I loved that we're getting some decents rewards for quests now...at least, I hope. Kook~NBK~
HoM - In it's current form, it's absolutely HORRID!
It wouldn't bother me one bit if they never came up with this thing at all, but since they did, they could have, and should have, done a much, much better job of it. [vent]I recorded my Mesmer's armor in there and what shows up? assassin and ritualist! I've never even made an assassin and my rit is nothing more than a mid-level (10 or 12, can't remember) mule. And the reason I decided on getting my MESMER that armor is because I think it's the best looking armor in the game, not assassin, not ritualist, M-E-S-M-E-R. The only up-side is that when the spotlight is on the sh** that's on that pedestal, it's so dark it's hard to make out what's there.[/vent] The other aspects of their failed product (HoM) are well covered in other threads. savage vapor 33

Thats if they can keep that many people. This preview event was not only for veteran pve/pvp players but also to entice new people to play. With a huge let down in HoM atm, 2 years of trying to keep people just went to 5 mins losing a lot of people.

Lol. People wouldn't quit because of a HoM In the PREVIEW. I'm pretty sure those who are disappointed are probably playing as we speak. Although I don't like the customization deal with HoM + The rare items only being in GW:EN, I myself, am giving ANET a chance and see what happens in the release because of this wonderful preview they gave us.

Sorry, but "thanking" someone for taking your money for a product is just bizarre. You've demonstrated that you understand zero about game development. Probably less. Do you honestly think that creating all that new environment art, level design, character modelling and animation, code/scripting, music, and all the rest of it is somehow "inserting a few database records"? Wow. Traveller
I like most of what the preview offers, but the rep point grind for armor is something I'm quite disappointed with. I think you should at least get near the limit by playing through the storyline, so hopefully they'll adjust the ranks needed before launch.

I'm not really impressed so far. I love the wide open areas, they are beautiful and it feels like they designed the maps more towards actually looking around to find your way instead of just looking at the radar.
I was annoyed at seeing those ice spike monsters again.. I mean I didn't think they were cool in prophecies lol. Just doesn't seem like enough content cause it'll be the same old thing, once you finished the game there's nothing to do. Plenty of grinding out titles.. The only reason I can see to buy this game is to get the new skills. I coulda swore I heard a long time ago someone say, "but this won't be a stand alone game and will be cheaper". looks like the same price as the others to me.. I can see me caving in and buying it anyways but that will have more to do with the amount of time I've spent on the game so far than any excitement I have about GW:EN. It's all the same to anet I guess. |
