Norn, Vangaurd,ect title tracks
Ritualistof the Mists
Ok so I just got doen with the event weekend. I see one thing that is wrong to me and wanted to know how everyone else felt. That is the title tracks to get armor and stuff. Anyone else feel that the titles should be account based like the Luxon/Kurzick titles and oters. I mean you come on you need to get 50 thousand for armor I think it is wrong to have to do that for each person you might want to get armor on. Pls post and tell me maybe Anet will read this and change it Thanks hope to hear from you all on this.
Arkantos
The reason Kurzick and Luxon faction was account based is because you can get it from PvP.
These titles being account based would be bad. Get max norn, vanguard, deldrimor and asura and all your characters have 4/5 KoaBD. If they made these account based, they'd most likely make SS and LB account based too since they're very similar. That's 6 maxed titles on every character.

A secondary point is that they're likely to either lower or remove the title requirements when the full game comes out. Well, hopefully anyway, other wise that's just dumb
Ritualistof the Mists
ok so if they do lower the title requried to get armor then all is good if it is a title that doesnt take hours or days to get, ,but if they dont then are you going to spend days getting a 50 thousand point title for more than one character, and you wouldn't think that was a waste?

I sure hope the requirement is temporary. There's no way in hell I'm farming 56k points for each armor set I wanna get. If this requirement stays I might forget about getting GW:EN.
thral
I see a point in having to "prove your loyalty" but its just downright annoying :P
DarkRaptorX
I have 10k norn points just from playing normally through the preview quests. I think it's fine.

Personally, I'm buying GW:EN so I can play the new quest/mission content and explore all the new areas. I couldn't give a toss about the latest vanity armour set.

It isn't that hard to get that much.. just play through the entirety of gwen once it comes out and if its still really unreachable then complain.

how is it that u people expect it to be account based? i mean, what? u play for 1 or 2 weeks to get max title for all ur chars since its account based, then what? i mean it would be waaaay too easy if they were account based...
also: u should consider the fact that getting 56k points on each title track is completly doable, not like they were asking u for 1.000.000 points for u to get armor, heck its pretty easy get this amount of points in 1 week or 2 by playing around 2 hours a day.
plz, dont tell me that u cant play for 2 hours a day plz i beg of u, cuz in that case if u play for an hour, it'll take u around 2-4 weeks of play, wich would still have gw being the game wich allows u to acquire the "end-game" armor ("pretty looking" armor in gw's case) in the least time in the market.

It's not like you NEED any of the new armor, you aren't missing out on any performance bonuses by not having it. Plus you might feel some satisfaction from the fact that you had to accomplish something in-game in order to get that shiny new armor.

Grinding, lol I say, these titles are no grind, its just some people want things in life too easy. You want a new car, you have to grind at work, save up money to buy it. You want that new 15k prestige armor, you have to grind for the materials, gold etc, maybe even a little faction. Lets face it people, GW:EN was made for level 20 characters as a last stand for Arena Net before Guild Wars 2. They're not going to make it easier for you to get these titles and if you really wanted that armor you would stop complaining and get more faction. When you explore the areas and do quests take the hunts, vanquish an area, and eventually you'll get there. It you put your heart to it you will get the faction in not time, and maybe some nice gold drops on the way to fund your armor purchase.
But how ever you see it, this is much easier then most MMORPGS that you'll see out there, and trust me, I've seen much worse.

I think it's horrible that you have to grind titles to access armor crafters.
Vahn Roi
I knew someone would bring this up.
No. I do not think it should be account based. One) becuase it's for PvE. Two) It's easy enough to get.

I don't think it should be accounts based, but the required level should be lowered, so that the casual player will be able to get armor in a reasonable amount of time!

You don't NEED to play the game, nothing here is about what any of us needs, it's all about wants. Armor is a big part of the fun for alot of people, and if I'm buying this game which was advertised as having 40 new sets of armor, an amazing hall of monuments, incredible dungeons, and I find that I have to grind 16 hours for each armor, and the hall of monuments is ridiculous piece of crap, then I feel like I've been ripped off. Sue the dungeons and the quests are loads of fun, but that's still 1/3 selling points.

I like that some of you are seeing the same way i am. The causal gamer doesnt have time to spend 4 weeks to get one armor set Most of us have school, work and other things. it is bad already having to save for weeks for gold and stuff to make armor but like someone said already why would you want to spend another 2 or 3 weeks getting points for the armor on top of the 3 weeks or so it took to get the stuff. I am glad to see some do agree that the titles need to be lowered to get armor or account based.

Amen to that, it sucks that only kids that live with their parents and have nothing better to do then grind some "points" will be able to get the armor, gw should be advertised "GRIND AND YOU WILL BE REWARDED" , its sure heading that way... oh well in the end it is just a game, ill leave you humming to one of my fav songs "Good Excuse - John Butler Trio"

Oh for pete's sake, it's only the preview event. We've only seen a small bit of the action! For all we know, we get 50k points for each race at the end of teh game!

I doubt it; what do I do with my shiny new armor once I beat all 3 campaigns and the expansion? :/

excuse me sir, but i am no kid, i do not live with my parents, i am married and i have two jobs, 56k is NOTHING, ok? with all due respect ur just being lazy.
ps. dont come to me saying u play a game to have fun, cuz all u have to do is beat the crap out of some norn, and kill mobs, seriously, u can still have fun while doing it, u wont loose edge cuz u dont have the armor. stop being spoiled and play the game.

I don't really care about grinding for the armor, because I don't want it. It looks too much like my Canthan elite armor, only less cool because it doesn't have the demonic faces.
natuxatu
Yeah the preview weekend alone I have more that i had for sunspear and lightbringer points.. so i don't think it will be an issue.. plus people with the norn and stuff armor it means that they've accomplished something and are getting rewarded for it. If anyone could just get the armor.. that would be kinda silly as well.. so *shrug* i'm cool with it.

You get reputations points for just about everything you do in Eye of the North - including the underground dungeons. They rock, by the way -- gorgeous and challenging, but not impossible. There are relatively short ones (Sepulcre of Dragrimmar) and longer ones (Frostmaw's Burrows). There is a chest at the end with a guaranteed decent gold. I got a req 9 icy blade axe and a diamond from Frostmaw in addition to more than 1,000 reputation points. The quests in these dungeons are repeatable giving gold, experience and reputation points.
You can make the argument that the Luxon points require grind, because you only get points for AB'ing and questing and exploring certain areas of Cantha. In EotN, you get rep points for just playing the game.
I actually like the idea that no one can Ebay their Gwen armor. If you define what you need to do to get reputation points as "grind", you're basically saying "playing Guild Wars is grind." I do not agree with that.

Yet, another thing people are complaining about...
For those of you who think they should lower or remove the req. for the titles are just...I dont even know what to say it's rediculous.
The titles (once released) will NOT take you forever to get. I mean there are going to be tons more quests, more dungeons, more of everything to get rep. titles. You should be able to get all the armor before you even finish the expansion. It's sad really... it's like you guys are wanting them to move all end game armor sets to the very first towns you come to, and have no req. for them.
I mean seriously people, Give it a rest already this is just stupid.
Oh. And for all you who think since you bought the game you should get everything in it...
You are just idiots. Welcome to an RPG. Thats like buying a game where you can't die and you automatically start on the last level and all weapons and everything unlocked... I mean i payed for the game i should'nt have to play it right? I mean seriously, if you played a RPG where you started out with the best gear and started on the highest level what would be the point of even playing it?
I'll prolly get another week ban or something for this rant, but it's worth it to tell all you spoiled little kids out there off. Pathetic. just pathetic...
You people make me sick...

you just need to say no XD QFT. I've been playing this game happily for the past 27 months after all my friends left it, and was probably gonna continue playing well into GW2. However if nothing about the HoM and the ridiculous requirements for the armor changes by release, I see nothing that justifies spending $40 for less than half of what I was promised in return. seut
When you play only 3 or 4 character the requirements are fine. If you want to play more characters, you'll lose.
Look at the Hall of Monuments design or the number of character slots you get: Arena.net doesn't want players to have a character of each profession! Ritualistof the Mists
I know everyone here is on bothsides of the fence with it. I spent about 15 hours give your take and got to rank 3 on Norn title and i vanquised 2 areas. I am not saying that it isnt a good idea for plays that want to show off by getting title and armor for it. It is like having end game armor it says look i beat the game. I do feel the same as Croix_Raul Grinding is a cheap substitute in a way , not that everything is like that. Also agree with seut 3or 4 characters you are fine but if you are like me and have 9 pve then you get the shaft.

Having to kill monsters repeatedly for the remaining points is grind, no matter how you twist it. How do I know there won't be any more norn quests upon release? We've seen the entire Norn area except for two towns (Longeye's Ledge and the Umbral Grotto), and as we've seen in previous preview events, the quests in the preview areas are generally all that's available at the time of release in those areas and that's when they had months between the previews and release to add more quests. I highly doubt that they'll be adding 44k Norn points' worth of quests within the next week.
That's a decent point. Yes, you do have to kill monsters repeatedly, but... Why aren't you complaining about Vabbian armor? Vabbian armor costs 16 rubies and 16 saphires in gems. Playing all the quests gets you about 4 gems. That means you need to put a lot of work in to farm your way to 28 gems unless you already farmed enough gold before nightfall was released. The only real difference is that you can't buy Norn rank off ebay as conveniently as you could for gold. sing85

you just need to say no XD LOL. This is so true... It's a cheap substitute to prolong the game for people. I tried the "no" approach, but couldn't resist playing the game for the armor. Yes, I finish all the chapters of every guildwars with all my characters. Reason? It was so I can get the armor of my choice whenever I want to. And those who enjoys mindless grinding, I'm just speechless. Actually, while grinding for a few k worth of pts, I had to constantly cuss, joke about it and trash talk about this expansion and direction of the game on how exciting it was to friends just to have the opportunity to look at the armor. It keeps my sanity up while doing so... A few lines includes... WTB Grinder, WTB Grinding Services, WTB a mindless grinding expansion, etc. Those who thinks that level either needs to be lowered or perhaps give ya 50k points for Norn (or any other armor related races) that finishes the game... I am siding with this side and let's just hope that's the case. I surely wouldn't want to end up grinding it 10x56k for all my characters. I wouldn't mind playing the game through 10 times with each character, but I wouldn't grind it. That's perhaps the reason why I didn't bother with Sunspear title? clarianaeneas

The only real difference is that you can't buy Norn rank off ebay as conveniently as you could for gold. Simple: In the case of other prestige armor, you can buy it if you have the money. Meaning you can choose to do things such as play through other parts of the game, sell drops, and do other quests then come back for the armor. I should know, I bought vabbian for my ele, and FoW as well as 4 other 15k sets for my ranger by simply playing through the game(s) with multiple characters. That way it's fun and there's always something different to see. In this case we're forced to farm the same area again and again, see the difference? Ravi

no, you are forcing yourself to farm the area over and over, because u can simply play the game, u can do dungeons, theres other ways to get your pts man, u have to remember you didn't get to do every single quest in norn side.
also, what makes u think there wont be HM and therefore higher bounties? IF your reason to whine about this requirement is because u want the armor as soon as the game goes live, then the answer is simple, want it fast? work for it, otherwise play the game and im sure ull make it. Cebe

Though you are right, noone is forcing you to farm an area over and over for points, it should be noted tha this is by far the quickest and easiest way of accumulating points. Which begs the question: Why do it any other way?
Some people I know have been "farming" the Nornbear quest...I have been farming Varajar Fells...the points seem to go up and up almost exponentially as you receive Norn hunting party rank 2, 3 and 4, and gain other blessings such as the one which ends if you don't kill anything for 45 seconds. Clearing Varajar Fells seems to give me about 3000-4000 points over the course of about an hour...depending on luck with blessings. So...if you find an area which gives you a lot of points quite quickly...why would you want to do a 5-level dungeon, taking 1-2 hours per trip, instead for less? The 56,000 points is perfectly doable. The problem is, many people would rather play throuh the game rather than farm continuously. There is no *real* fun in farming the same thing over and over...at least...not for 95% of the people playing the game it would seem. I've only known very few people who actually really enjoy farming. I'm not sure I'm 100% sold on the "you need to farm copiously to obtain this armor" idea, but I'll do it nonetheless. When it comes to Reputation farming...I'll farm for Reputation for the races I want the armor from, or skills from...If I need neither of those, then that race can screw off. clarianaeneas

No, I don't want the armor to be available as soon as the game goes live. I was actually shocked to see crafters so early on in the game and was expecting them to either be available later on or be locked for the preview. Of course there's still the possibility that setting insane title requirements was their way of locking the armors out of the preview event. I sure hope it was. And please don't call it whining, people like you act like ANet is doing us a favor by giving us stuff to play. They're business that provides a service, and we pay them to provide it. Although you may not understand that, I'm sure the people at ANet do. malko050987
I like the rep req for the armor. I would prefer it to stay that way.
It's just another prestige armor, so you have to work for it. At least this way the game won't be flooded with people who got cash from ebay and paid for runs to Marhan's just so they could get the armor. The weaponsmiths have a lower rank requirement, from what I know, so there won't be grinding to get to them. Also, I explored all available areas, all four dungeons, and did about three quarters of the available quests. I didn't go out of my way to vanquish an area, nor did I repeat any of the dungeons/quests. I have 17k Norn points, and about 3k Dwarf points. There was no grinding involved, just exploring. And I am planning to do the Dungeons over and over, because I rushed through them, and I want some of the greens (also, I want to get some screens of Frostmaw. >.>). I went "WTF?!" when I saw diamonds and onyx as rewards from the Burrows chest. Oh, and a big NO for making the rep titles account-based. I don't see how that would work in the game world. I mean, Character X did all the quests, so it's him/her that should have the rewards for it, not character Y, who reached level 20 just five minutes ago and has only the Boreal Outpost on the map. |
