Moa Eggs...
Seissor
what came first the moa egg or the moa?
Rhys
It'd be pretty funny if the moa egg hatched into a (normal sized) charmable moa bird, which you can find where you stole the egg from. xD
Hengis
I'm away from home this week so I can't do anything except follow this thread on the forums! I gathered a couple of eggs and had got them hardened before I left home though, but I can't try any of the other stuff yet.
Anyway, a silly idea: Several people have mentioned the Python reference of cutting down the tallest tree in the forest with a herring and we already know that the devs love Python. I was trying to think what is the biggest tree in the game and decided that the biggest tree in the game has probably already been cut down. There is a massive tree stump in an abandonded village in Dry Top (I think). I always thought that the tree stump should have some purpose other than just being scenery. So, just wondered if anyone had checked it out with the herring in their inventory.
Probably a stupid idea, but I do love this kind of thing!

The egg.
It doesn't matter what the hell laid that egg, the moa (chicken, whatever) came from an egg. Even if it was genetically grown in a lab on a space ship it still had to be incubated in an egg for proper growth.

In GW2 there are no more Moa, there will be some guy explaining that some crazy people trying to make a mini moa stole all the eggs anf ate them.

Exactly... now we just have to find the spot to make the nest at.
Dunno why u need to harden it tho, but the herring is obvious i guess. Berries cant be said wether or not they belong to the quest.

Does anyone think that the volcanic rock is used to COOK the herring? I mean yea its odd because most birds eat raw fish, but it is a game right? so anything is possible
bobrath
This could all just be part of a plan to link GW to GW2... you get a "mini moa" that many years down the line has grown into a treasured family pet/mount... I'm just saying.

For those of you who haven't farmed your bog skale fins yet, I didn't see the suggestion here, and I think I read every post, but last night I farmed Tears of the Fallen. I only had to zone once after I got there, and I spent about 1.5 hours to get five fins. There are a lot more skales concentrated in a smaller area than the area outside Lion's Arch (which is the area I saw recommended here), and it's just north of Twin Serpent Lakes where Gruhn the Fisher is located.
makosi
To farm Skale Fins, just go outside Fisherman's Haven with a fire ele and use Rodgorts Invocation + Searing Flames. Kill 2 mobs then map back to town and repeat.
Go alone, obviously.

I moved 3 nesting materials off of my main character to storage for room to adventure till friday now i cannot move or trade them, place in storage nor return them to the character that bought them from the collector, Now i need to Replace all my "Locked" nests and delete the old ones ;( ~Rud

I started from Fisherman's Haven to get to Tears of the Fallen and was terribly disappointed. The "mobs" consisted of two skales and one drake, and there weren't very many. I killed every skale there and they didn't yield even one fin. Then Tears of the Fallen was just teeming with skales, the mobs were as many as eight (I remember how daunting that was when I first started playing GW) and it was bam bam bam... five fins.

Fragile nests can be moved out of storage. I had the same problem. The only thing is, once out of storage, they can't go back in. If you're having trouble getting them out of storage, use an item in your inventory and swap it with the nests.

Awww geez, if that's the case, I'm gonna be really pissed when I get home. I moved all the items to a minor Level 5 NF only character for a moment so that she could show them to the great warthog hunter guy outside the Great Hall.
I was planning on putting them back in storage and transferring them to my normal char this evening. It wouldn't be that bad if I could just go get the stuff again, but i dread trying to farm 5 skales and 5 wings again.

I can just see this at ANET HQ
Developer 1: Whats that?
Developer 2: Moa bird egg.
Developer 1: Whats it for?
Developer 2: I don't know but players seem to be enjoying this little useless items, so we thought we would add some more.
Developer 1: LOL thats so funny, remember the tattered girls cape?
Developer 2: Yeah from Kryta, that had player running around for months, boy that was funny.
Developer 1: How are those bug fixes coming along.
Developer 2: I don't know but this is more entertaining.
Developer 1: Ok just checking, what do you want from KFC?
Developer 2: OH! you just gave me an idea how about a Hot Rock of some kind in the Fire Islands. OR a way of boiling the Moa Egg.
Developer 1: Thats so funny. This will have em running around for months. I wonder what kind of conspiracy theory's will end up on those fan forums.

@ Glory Fox and Bathory Swain:
No, it isn’t great.
Have you ever been a dungeon master for a pen and paper group of players and created something that your players have chased around, played, had fun with, been forced to think about? Have you ever watched a group come up with bizarre ideas, and then watched them come up with dead on solutions? Have you seen the sense of achievement and accomplishment in a group when it finally comes together? It’s great fun and personally rewarding.
Some of that fun attitude is very evident in Linsey’s (the developer) talk page that was linked to this thread. If you don’t want to play, then don’t play. If you want to wait and let someone else do the leg work and the puzzlements and then play when it’s easy and you have step-by-step instructions then do that. But don’t insult the developer that has put out the thought and effort and creativity to produce this little gem. Reading that kind of nonsense steals my fun, and it will steal hers.

1) Have an item in your character's inventory that can be moved to your storage box, like let's say a Gray Dye.
2) Go to your storage and drag the Gray Dye (or whatever) onto the slot where the Nesting Material is in your storage.
3) Viola! The items should switch places. The Nesting Material will now be in your character's inventory, while the Gray Dye (or whatever) will be in your storage box.
This should work - hopefully.
Master Mxyzptlk
thats what I said earlier. It wont help them putting it into storage from their mule, however, which, as he said, was his problem, it being on his NF only level 5 character.

You act like they were slandering anet for creating it or something.
They act in way that lots of roleplayers would once they exhausted 'serious' part of secret: humorously. I just dont get how you can get insluted when someone is not taking it 100% seriously.
Do you have sense of humor?
It part of having fun, you know.

Has anyone tried double-clicking on the nesting material or the eggs to see if they can be combined?

Anyway, for people having trouble farming Wings, this is my run:
It is quite fast in normal mode, and you meet two bosses (who can drop greens and also: when bosses drop collectibles, they drop stack of 2-3)
In hardmode, this doubles as nice SS farm and is not that much slower. Just get BHA with MM and breeze throught them.
As bonus, if you follow this path you will not aggro any non-harpy mosnters, meaning that you wont loose time on them. As another bonus, it gets you close to collector so when run is finished you can scash your wings asap.
You meet about 15 groups of harpies.

Nope,
Nesting material now has an edited description:
"Fragile. (Can not be dropped or traded)."
Erhm, Anet? what's the purpose of this?
Giving people another reason to buy an expansion, making one of the items untradeable?
Not a nice move after people started to stack them up and play around with different solutions on different chars ...
Did put me off for now, even if it is not a problem for me...

Well if this really is a reward only for those that have bought all the chapters then this makes perfect sense. Why should people that have not be able to buy these items? Not much of a reward anymore if you let that happen.

Correcting myself. Just tried this and no, it does not work. I had mine in my storage already, and was able to move it over to my warrior, only to find I cannot move it back, not even using the switch/replace item method.
Well, I guess you just need to get another one, not a big deal. Takes like what, 10-15 minutes of farming with a full team? Less when solo? Pssh.

Second of all... yeah your point is good (even if it was terribly ill stated). I was in the game for a total of 1-1/2 hours and that included trips to the merchants and to the two different collectors with my fins and wings. I probably spent less than an hour once I got to Tears of the Fallen. If you read my next post (after the one you quoted) you'll see I started from Fisherman's Haven and killed everything there first... and yeah, I'm an adult with a real life, who likes to savor my fun diversions such as GW... so yeah, I take my time. I take breaks while screens are loading and things like that... and I was also savoring a bowl of Haagen Dazs Caramel Cone while I played... mmm mmm mmm.... so yeah... 1-1/2 hours was really good time and good fun for 5 fins.
Third of all... difficult to believe that you got 10 in 15 mins just outside of LA. If you truly did, it was utterly amazing luck. If you read this thread, you'll see there are a FEW people who found that area very slow farming. I find it slow as well compared to Tears of the Fallen. Like I said, in TotF the skales are much more concentrated (bigger mobs) in a smaller area (less travelling). It would really be wise to check it out (and know of what you speak) before you speak about it again.

Well my guess is that if this is indeed a mini-pet moa that folks can get much like some of the promotional things ANET has done such as the grey giant quest then it only makes sense that they are making this item untradable and more then likely limiting a gold mini-pet to one per character or one per acct. Guess we wait and see but it makes sense to limit a mini if they want it to be special and not something farmed the hell out of and folks go " oh yeah " one of those kinda like the mini-pig, which was a really cool thing for the event but in no way is it special since folks simply farmed the hell out of them to sell. This makes sense
