There's something scary at the bottom of the Drakkar Lake

i'm gonna place my bet that Gwen knew about this and is waiting for us to be turned into little dead bugs

The third screenie makes me think it is a building. The first one looks like a land ridge. There does seem to be fins, but its not clear enough.

Obviously a plesiosaur of some sort: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleiosaur

also if you look around the lake there are trees frozen down there as well. The Crystal Desert used to be an ocean, iirc, which would mean that these beasts were sea-going animals. Perhaps in the case of this thing, it, and a large body of water with it, were teleported off to the Far Shiverpeaks. It died and then the entire area froze over. As for t3h ev!l, I dunno. Perhaps it was in proximity to the Margonites and it had the taint of Abaddon, or perhaps it has something to do with the Destroyers. I guess we'll find out next week.

Hmmmm. Anybody find a use for the TNT guy you get by Sifhalla that wants to join you to blow stuff up. I tried blowing up some barrels on the ice by Nessie but nothing happened.

The Dwarf that you can hire for 100 gold and who follows you around with black powder is pretty useful, especially for the Vengeance Against the Stone Summit quest you can get.
Basically, he follows you around (had a little interaction with the Dwarven miners south of his position, but that's about all) and, when you click on him, you get a keg of black powder. Drop it on the floor and then 3 seconds later *BOOM*, all adjacent (possibly nearby) foes take 50 damage - didn't seem affected by armour.
How many times can you do this? Pretty much as fast as you can click on him and drop the keg I took some blocking stances and ran my Ranger into the thick of the enemy, targetted the Keg Dwarf (who had followed me but is marked as a non-combatant), and then went space bar/f1/space bar/f1/space bar/f1 (rinse and repeat, you know the drill).
After 3 seconds, 50-point explosions go off one after the other. The enemy AI didn't seem to treat it as a DOT threat so didn't run, and just kept on trying to hit me until they died. Master-difficulty quest my shiny metal ass!
Back on topic, that thing is scary big. And probably alive. And unhappy. And, in all likelihood, planning to eat me.

Been mentioned in this thread already, but yeah, it's definitely the most logical, and probably the correct, theory about it's identity.
If you think about lots of different zone and outpost names across Tyria as well, many of them are named based on their location or physical landmarks in the area.
Still, it's fun to imagine that it's Nessie or something alike .

lol I can see the corny storyline now
As dwarves read the Tome of Rubricon
"And the great dwarf, with his majestic hammer, did smash the great destroyer with all his might and as he lay there, gasping for breath, the dwarf did lay upon him the fury of a thousand blizzards until he was frozen in place."
lol =P. And then of course when the destroyers break out everywhere they will stand on the lake melting it until he pops up like rawr! And even with his gigantic size, we kill him by chaining "Your as Short as a Dwarf!" and smacking him silly
the end!

More like Glint's mother! Did you see the size of the thing? Glint is about the size of one of it's limbs, maybe just the foot. That must make Glint a baby and perhaps those eggs were her siblings... hmm...

You don't!
So, satellite imagery reveals a dire threat. A big enormous Leviathan of Mass Destruction.
Let's hope Tyria isn't suffering from global warming!
But, really, it is the long ice encased remains of an ancient sea creature. We see the bones of these things everywhere throughout Tyria.
We know this huge creature is a former denizen of the sea because its "legs" are splayed out from the trunk of the body as you'd expect with flippers.

When asked on her talk page about the creature and the fate of the shiverpeaks:
Quote:
I can't comment on the creature in the lake; sorry =/. I know that's not exactly what you want to hear, but you just might have to wait until GW2 to find out about this one. Quote:
But I will say that the Shiverpeaks is not "completely defrosted" in GW2. Yes, it's true that in GW2 the world map has changed a lot in the 250 years since GW:EN and parts of the Shiverpeaks will likely be "defrosted" but not all of it and not likely the part that this lake is in. - Linsey http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User_.... 3F.21.21.3F

I've never heard of these Drakkar creatures before. I recall seeing bones in the Crystal Desert, but are they actually mentioned anywhere? If they actually are, then it seems rather obvious what the creature down there is.

William Wallace > England the dwarves sound like they are from scotland or surrounding area. possibly just celtic stereotypes in general. i heard Budger(powder keg guy) say "Aye laddies...." but yeah i noticed this thing on the U map before i actually looked down and saw it. i was like WTH is that thing.
and the crystal desert used to be the crystal sea.
And so it came to pass that Jadoth, being persecuted by the horrific Forgotten armies, and hounded from his home, did seek refuge among the cooling mists of the Crystal Sea. Untold weeks passed as Jadoth huddled in his sanctuary, with nothing to see save the endless ripples of the boundless ocean.
On the 51st day of his exodus, a frightful sight manifested before Jadoth's eyes: the unmistakable shape of Forgotten warships upon the horizon's shimmering edge.
And prayed Jadoth, "Abaddon! Lord of the Everlasting Depths, Keeper of Secrets, open mine eyes and bestow upon me the knowledge of the Abyss that I might smite mine enemies and send them to the watery depths!"
An unsettling silence swept across the waves. The twilight sky shattered and stars streaked down upon the Forgotten armada. The seas boiled and ruptured, and gave birth to a maelstrom from which not even light could escape, and transforming the sky above into a midnight void.
And thus was magic gifted to Jadoth, chosen of Abaddon, the first of the Margonites.

So, I just want to make clear that this "creature" is here for a purpose. It's not just there to be something cool without ever having an explanation (which is how something things do work). Linsey talk 01:42, 29 August 2007 (UTC) It was put into the game with a specific purpose in mind which will not be revealed until GW2 but there are various clues sprinkled around GW:EN. I really hope we will be able to team up with 40-50 ppl and kill the darn thing, although its cute

Well, it doesn't really look like one from the map picture.
But, I suppose it could equally just as well be Noah's Ark. Dragasa
It's Cthulhu. In GW2 we fight the Great Old Ones.
