Eye of the North Delayed in New Zealand
psycore
Ah well, as expected....
Can't expect any thing fair from either NC Europe or Anet who decided AU and NZ belong to England for some retarded reasoning for both distro online and in store.

Gonna have to cancel my pre-order and use the money to buy it in-game. I guess at least this way I'll be able to get the bonus missions too. I had to do something similar as well. The 2 Gamestops by me (east coast usa) had no clue there was a pre-order so when I found this out I had to canel it from Gamestop store so I could but it online from Anet. Hope everything works out!

so would changing my region from NZ to america allow me to buy the game properly or would it cause other problems? id rather wait a day than pay a extra $15 because anet cant use a map
Darkhorse
You can't change the region. That's NCSoft's fault. It's hard enough to get them to charge you in USD if you move to the US - if you live elsewhere they just won't do it.
Also, the International Date Line does not affect when you can access the servers, because you're locked out from the server side, not the client side. In NZ it's 7pm Friday, Aus East Coast 5pm.

fRag, my largest concern is that Anet/NCSoft doesn't appreciate how long it takes to get INSTORE after the game actually reaches Aussie shores.
Sydney HQ -> another capital city = min of a day.
Distro in capital city -> stores in that city = min of a day.
No deliveries by stores are taken on Saturdays.
They don't send it air freight.

Well, I just checked up EB Game Australia and they've changed the release date to the 3rd September ... This officially ... sucks ...
Arwen Granger
This sucks. Will Anet extend our preview keys or what???
Looking at the preview CD, the last timestamp there was 22/May/07 so supposedly the Gold CD should be out by 29/May/07. They've got bloody full 3 months to manufacture and send all these things here. I can't see why they can't do this in time ffs!

Lady Lozza
Arwen, this question has already been asked, and apparently the answer is no, it cannot be done, or rather would be very difficult to do - ie take several days of coding, of which we MIGHT have the game by then. So from their point of view it certainly isn't worth the effort. Given that we're such a small proportion of the customer base it probably wouldn't be worth the effort anyway.
EDIT: Actually I'm just waiting for the - "Just buy it in the ingame store" response from someone at NCSoft... I've $10 on the fact that Anet will have to do the same thing they did with Nightfall. Close it for a little while because it won't be able to handle the load.
*sigh* Oh well, I've another 3 characters close to getting their Elonian protector titles, will work on that over the weekend instead, but it's a real disappointment that I'm not going to be able to play EoTN with my guildies and friends.

This sucks but unfortunately, Living in NZ its what Ive come to expect.
Psuedo Halgoen
I'm paying more than double for the opportunity to play with everyone else.
When I rang EB games on the day that the Pre-order was live, every EB games I rang only had limited amounts of them, it was then, that I decided to go with the online store.
I got my pre-order code (At a cost....F'ing POUNDS) and now I'll probably get to play with everyone else (At a cost....>F#%$%^ POUNDS).
Funny thing is that I live just across the road from Toombul (QLD) so I could have just walked over there to get the game when it became available (lazy ftw), guess I got lucky!
Now if I could just persuade them that I'd like to pay in US dollars and not crapoid Pounds I'd be laughing.
But I'm not $5.99 for an extra Char slot = $15.02 Plus .50c tax ...............sigh
LET ME PAY IN US DOLLARS!!!!!!!!

Just got the call from an apologetic EB saying they had bad news, but not as bad as NZ. Said it would be here on Monday. Screw it. I'm playing Bioshock.

BTW, EB Australia's head office and distribution center are in Brisbane. Pinkenba to be more precise.

There's no reason why stores can't accept deliveries on Saturdays, it's most likely that the transport companies used by EB just don't deliver on Saturdays. You're probably right about air freight, except for shipments to NZ. Lady Lozza
Heh, I can just see EB substituting the GW shipment for the Bioshock one on the flight over afterall they were garanteed to sell more copies...
fRag, I think NCSoft might have a short memory In my experience distribution chains are the largest part of the problem, but then I work for a rather large company that hasn't grasped the concept of simplicity. Having HQ in Pinkenba makes no sense as the head freight port (air) is in Sydney, and that is where the majority of international freight enters the country. I'm not arguing that this is where HQ is only that it is doubtful that they got a direct shipment into Brisbane, meaning they will truck it up from Sydney, adding extra time to the distribution... True, most local/small courier companies don't operate on weekends which is why they don't take stock on weekends. There are however, some companies that do - mind you at expense. And yes I was referring to internal freight when I said that they won't use air. In short EB is not "doing everything they can", because it isn't worth their while to do so. It simply sounds good to customers. Psuedo Halgoen
Ok so I just purchased the full game code for Guild Wars Eye of the North from the PlayNC website.
Game cost in Pounds = £24.99 Game cost to Australian player = $63.29 + $0.50 tax. SIGH But I have it (At a cost.....FU Pounds) What really annoys me about that PlayNC store is that there are *Some* options for me to purchase other NCsoft games in American dollars, but not for guild wars. Example, I was thinking about purchasing The pre-order for Tabula Rasa but I kept thinking oh FFS it's going to be in Pounds, to my surprise and joy I was given a choice, EU or US. So why can't that apply to Guild Wars? /end rage Lady Lozza
Because apparently someone thinks Australia is still stuck in 1966
fRag_Doll
I've just spoken to EB Australia's PC games department, the stock was late arriving in Australia (reason unknown), and then the truck delivering it to the warehouse broke down.
EB is not to blame, they know GW:EN goes live in 7.5 hours and they tried their best to get it to us, but now it's just too late. Lady Lozza

So either NCSoft Europe completely forgot to load it on the plane, or they completely forgot to load it on the plane EARLY ENOUGH, and the Hume badly needs repairs, and they can't be bothered paying couriers to deliver tomorrow... Or, they want all stores to have it before they put it on the shelves, ie they won't pay courier to deliver it Saturday to Brisbane stores. lg5000
Do I want to wait until Monday to get my copy or do I want to hunt down a friend to let me borrow their credit card and spend more money than the expansion should cost especially as the preorder works as a deposit?
Its a pity that we organize our lives in such a way that we have an entire weekended dedicated to a game.. only to find out we won't be playing it. I'm not putting blame on anyone, I'm disappointed that it didn't work out and I'd love for anet to do something nice for those of us who got screwed over by the delay even though its not their responsibility. Oh.. and any chance that they can do something about the fact that we're being overcharged due to the currency we have to use to buy online? And why is the UK still working in pounds when the rest of the EU works in Euro? Angelica
I'm not worried! I can wait till monday or any other day, after all I'll have plenty of time to play the game. :P
vaxmor
well Australia/NZ just got 0wned, again.
Lady Lozza
lg5000, my understanding of the GBP vs EU thing is that if Britian changed to EU they would stand to loose a large slice of their economy in terms of $$$. I don't really get it, but that's just what I've heard from friend of mine who get the world economic scene. As for why they charge Australians in GBP - well Anet and NCSoft have yet to explain that in a satisfactory manner to anyone, as far as I know.
stiffler
I wonder if it is at all possible for Anet to open the GW:EN preview key for peeps. It will only give us the same amount of access as the first event so it will not give anyone an advantage, just a thought.
Mr.Deflok
How much does it cost an Aussie or a Kiwi to buy ingame?
Lady Lozza
stiffler, I'm sure this question has been asked in this thread already (and many others). The answer is no.

If we pay in Pounds, $62 AU.
If US Dollars, $48 AU. If we buy at EB Games, $49.95 AU. Lady Lozza
I seem to remember someone saying that Kiwi's pay in EU... Don't ask me why...
lg5000
Lady Lozza, thanks for the explanation
Mr.Deflok
Yeah, I'm paying in Euros according to the store.
Just used XE.com... If I was lucky enough to pay in USD 39.99 USD = 56.9372 NZD Which is cheaper than retail here ($59.95) But I'm not lucky. 34.99 EUR = 68.1507 NZD Not too bad, I guess. Just another 8 dollars or so, plus I'll get the bonus missions too. Lady Lozza
Yeah I know it wasn't much of an explaination, but I live in Europe for a year and I still don't get it. The only thing that I can think of is that Britain's economy is stronger than that of the other EU countries. By changing the currency they are somehow set to loose some of that.
As for the other bit... People have asked, no comprehensible answer has been given. bilateralrope

EB is not to blame, they know GW:EN goes live in 7.5 hours and they tried their best to get it to us, but now it's just too late. This reason seems to be the same reason that the Factions CE got delayed. An unspecified part of the distribution chain had a delay. Lady Lozza
The Factions CE was an NCSoft publishing issue - and they admitted that. Furthermore it affected not only Australia, but everyone.
Factions didn't arrive in Australian stores until the Monday after release either, if I remember correctly. The part that gets to me is that at least NCSoft admitted it about a week in advance. We had this put on us yesterday. kazjun
So. I pre-order and pay upfront in full. I work during the week and my only time to really get some game time is the weekend, same as my mates. Good that GWEN goes live on friday night then, right? We can really get some gaming in and power through some missions.
But instead of getting a full weekends gaming in, I'll have to wait till monday when it's no good to me at all. I'll be able to get some RA in maybe, and maybe a quest or two a night. To actually put some serious game time in, I'll be waiting till the weekend after. Thanks anet, for leaving shipping till the last minute rather than shipping a bit early to make SURE your products get in on time. I'm sure you'll be glad there won't be any idiots complaining about not getting to play early, cause we won't be getting to play at all. Good job. I'll make sure I and all my friends remember that we shouldn't ever bother to pre-order and that we should consider all release dates to be a lie, and that if we even want the smallest chance of getting it on time we need to be extorted by paying more than the rest of the world at the online store. And considering the online store isn't selling till your precious release date, it's yet to be seen if the store will even deliver on time or crash and burn. Thanks anet, we'll remember your stellar service to the forgotten alliance of downunder. Psuedo Halgoen
From the online store my total cost (including the pre-order) was $8.58 + $63.29 + $1.00 sales tax, grand total = $72.87 au
Expansion my arse. Lady Lozza
Psuedo, you have to be joking... They didn't subtract the cost of the pre-order from the game? Didn't think things could get worse...
deadshot
Just came back from EB shellharbour(nsw) and the area manager gone missing, Eye of the north has had a detour due to an "international Shipping Error" and the Guy behind the counter answering my questions with a cheesy smile on his face. Way to go EB and NC Soft !
feisar84
I also pre-ordered and paid in full. I cleared my entire weekend and took time off work to play this weekend. I'm just annoyed, I mean if they plan to have a worldwide release i thought that ensuring that the game ships on time is a fairly big issue, but i guess it isn't.
I guess my only hope now is to hope arena net grants us access with our pre-order like they did with factions. But seeing they haven't acknowledged this thread yet thats pretty unlikely. KingKryton

Feisar, this has been brought up in other threads, apparently it isn't possible. We will have to wait until EB gets themselves sorted out, or possibly pay as much as $22 above the retail price of the game instore.
Scorchio
In the grand scheme of things I know it's only a game and this delay merely an annoyance. I can't help but wonder, however, why have the physical release so close to the go live date? Why not have the boxes on the shelves a week before? The content isn't available until they flick the switch (as it were) and any last minute changes will be streamed to the buyer anyway. I'd much rather have the key added to my account and ready to go live than be at the mercy of crack-addled people in the distribution chain. If nothing else it would mitigate the impact of late deliveries and the risk of a customer service enquiry spike.

And you had this put on you by a gaming site, a site not affiliated with NCSoft or ArenaNet. Nice, eh?
When will they acknowledge this? I'm pretty disappointed in the whole thing. I detest the idea of not having a physical CD but at the same time detest the fact that I have today, and the weekend off work, and no game to play. Therefore buying it online seems like the best thing for me to do, to make worthwhile the time-off I've got. |
