GW:EN a disappointment... don't let it happen to GW2
NoXiFy
I'm not likeing the fact that 90% of GW:EN's weapons, armors... and 100%of the pets are just reskined objects from the past campaigns!
First thing... I feel real bad for those that had some of the games most unique weapons like Dwarven Axe, Runic Blades, and Stygian Reavers that APPARENTLY drop in GW:EN now! It almost makes HA a failure! First thing I propose, is some NEW kickass skins that drop ONLY in the HoH chest and NEVER in PvE. Animated skins seem the best for making people want to HA and such again, like when the Tormented weapons came out.
Next, the pets are... a huge failure. We didn't need any more wolves... now we have like three color's. It's dumb! I was hoping for something CrAzY like an Elephant pet, or a camel, or something thas freaking gangster like them!
And almost lastly... the armor. -_- I wish I could hack into the game and burn all of the armor in Droks. Seriously. Only "cool" armor are the gloves... that don't match anything and are just for looks! Everyone loves the gloves and such but they would love them 1000000000000000000 times more if they had a whole set of armr, like Chaos Helm's and such. That would be awesome!
So please Anet, fix the piece of $}{1+ that is GW"EN's collectibles, OR take note for GW2. There's a rumor that it may drop in 2008... DON'T LET IT HAPPEN. I don't want GW2 to come out until very late 2009 or early 2010 because if it comes out any earlier... than there rusing it! And that's retarded!
People discuss what I have just wrote and tell me back your opinion, please.

I don't want any 'kickass' skins to drop in HoH.
That means that the best way to make money in PvE is not to actually play PvE but play PvP!!!!
I think ANet's introduction of Dwarven Axes and Sephis Swords into PvE is going to bridge that gap and fix the market for high-end PvP items.
But I don't want GW2 out in 2008 either. I want it out in 2009, so that it'll be perfect

GW:EN a disappointment? I absolutely disagree. I love the new lands (As far as I've seen them) as well as the many new aspects of the game.
The only thing that still needs serious attention is the Hall of Monuments. (Account-wide customized minipets, account-based HoM and in less degree a better placement choice system for the items in monuments)

Actually must say GW:EN is the most fun I have had in GW's in a long time.
Armor~ Can't really comment on it as haven't paid that much attention to it.
Rare skins now dropping in PvE can't be a bad thing, at least they will come down to a reasonable price range and be more casual player attainable.
So meh to each his own!

GW:EN is awesome. I don't see a problem with having a variety of wolf pet colors or any of that other stuff. As for rare skins dropping.... excuse me I'm off to play.

Please note, I said NOTHING about the PvE play, I'm sure it's wonderful! The music is awesome and so is all of the stroyline. My rant is about, ARMOR, PETS, and WEAPON SKINS.

Bah. Close this thread, delete Nox's account and bar him from ever playing anything with a "G" or "W" anywhere in the title ever again.

Seriously, how many ways are there to depict a damn sword? This "just reskinning things" complaint is getting silly.

Probably thousands, your statement makes no sense imo.

I would say some of the best looking weapon skins are from Prophecies/Tyrian.

I usually dont even care what my weapon or armor looks like... i could care less about cool looking pets. I have my bear that will interupt you and im fine with it. as long as the weapons and armor have the stats that i want im fine with them looking normal. why spend the big bucks to get a cool looking weapon when you can get a collectors weapons + a few mods and its exactly the same...

So your complaining about something you have no first hand knowledge of? Play the game before saying what a huge disappointment it is.

Probably thousands, your statement makes no sense imo. Yes, it's called reskinning, get a clue.
Placing new textures on an existing model. Swords have certain properties:
There are a relatively few ways to conceptualize a sword's shape if you want to ensure it will appear to functionally be a sword.
Sure, you could have a Sponge Bob Square Pants shaped sword, but people might not recognize it as a sword.
Thus, you have reskins of sword models. The expansion takes place on the same world of Tyria just like the campaigns, not some other dimension.

GWEN is really awesome game, best GW so far, and I'm really enjoying it. I don't remember that I have been ever complaining about Guild Wars on these forums, BUT these warrior armors are total crap, and they are just pure re-skins of older version of armors, really awful.. I like everything else but those armors just kill the fun for me, because I was really looking forward to buying a new set or two
Crom The Pale
In general the expansion is great, there are some problems...
The armor is nothing special, would like to see a little more creativity there...
As for rare skins droping, I love it!
PvE skills need some improvement, some are fine but others are just unuseable.
I am ticked off that they nerfed Feral Aggression after the skill was on Wiki for a month previous and was in the pre sale event. They knew all along exactly what the skill was and it was perfect, so why change it?
As for the pets, well I'll take my Charr hero over a Charr pet, so I guess I'm happy with that.
Over all it was a very nice addition.

The man has a point. If they had stuck to maybe 2-3 new armors per profession they might have had time to do something creative, something impressive, something with less suck.
There's also an extensive amount of wepaon/sword designs that they could have drew inspiration from if the artistic juices had been used up on previous concepts/games/side projects/etc.
As for pets, the new races, areas, and lore should have introdruced some wild ideas for them. But no, we get black and white crap cause they're cool like dye.
Simply reskinning existing models reaks of lack of effort and/or time. I suspect both but the point remains that it was a very dissapointing end result. Previous concepts I've seen from their artists could not be described less than amazing, so the talent is there, and the art probably was too, yet hardly anything went in the game to show it. That means that someone dropped the ball on the team or they just sold the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO out IMO.

Well I was happy with the new swords in a way.
I once seen a Zealous Runic Blade of Fortitude (req 9) sell for 100k + XXX ecto's (can't remember the exact amount) and just there I bought a GW:EN Green Runic Blade skin with the same stats for 50k, fantastic!

It's not worth the 40 dollars, yet it isn't bad. My objective opinion.

Not worth $40 not even $30 ^-^, my opinion.
Pwny Ride
Its and expansion, it expands on old content and does it very well, considering there wasnt too much content wise in the first place (things just tended to take alot of time).
I think A-net aced this one personally, and amen to those people who arent going to buy GW2 because of GW:EN, we really dont need people like that playing.

Well one issue is the price tag it seems a bit steep for it being just an expansion pack compared to what you paid for just a little more for the campaigns. I'm enjoying it so far, but the price is off.

There are tons of ways to "conceptualize" a swords shape, giving your little pictures was nothing more then a waste of time on your part, They don't all have to be realistically shaped, but its a fantasy game after all. The fact that almost all of the weapons are re-skins just shows how lazy the devs were. Also you need to work on your attitude problem, i said IMO in my post, and you lash out like a 12 year old at a voice of my thoughts..gj, rehab ok?
I agree with the OP again, because sure there are "strong monsters" and your all happy on the first day, but Overpowered PvE skills, and new heros [ which serve the same funcionality as the old heros] are bound to get old.

I think I know what Anet is doing after GW2.t They're going to reskin this post-it note and sell it to ya for $40. But hey, atleast I'll get more enjoyment outta that paper then this copy-paste POS they are throwing at us now.

You forgot Atari lolz. Pro game here. On a more related note, I don't feel the main mission thingys were the main selling point of GWEN - I got the feeling they were basically selling dungeons, just my opinion.

I think that they need to fix the Mobs in general.
One step forward to fight a single mob and you get swarmed by 50 enemeies. And if they are lvl 28, it only kicks dirt in your face after you are down.
IT gives me flashbacks of the old RoT.
Bosses need to be rebalanced as well. It should never be possible to wipe a group in 2 to 3 swings from a monster(there are plenty of those not even bosses in Asura territory.)

That means that someone dropped the ball on the team or they just sold the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO out IMO. I couldnt have agreed more with this post. throughout playing from start to finish and nearly completing the game, i constantly sensed a lack of effort put forth. I'm not so huge on armors or weapon skins, but I do happen to enjoy the surrounding environment I happen to be playing in, and in every single place, it always looked like another model from somewhere else in guild wars...just with different colors. It consistently felt bland and tasteless for wherever I was. Pretty much all the dungeons I've been in looked extremely similar (most of the time just looking like a cheap, cramped UW), and not really special. The only unique thing I really found in this expansion was how mobs seemed to take on better and more popular builds (such as conjure charr). But even then, they were usually just builds that were found out and made popular by the players....
additionally in many instances, missions and quests almost required you to have more than 1 real player and would not be able to just go in with heroes and henchies. While this may sound alright, a large portion of new pve was new heroes and such....thus underscoring a focal point of the expansion. Also hindering this was that the "missions" were started and carried out from outposts or in explorable areas. Thus it is already weird in finding a party in which there is no designated area to create a party. This tells me that they mostly meant for people to play the expansion either with heroes and henchies and have an exceptionally hard time with it, or have a bunch of guildies or friends who you constantly would be able to party up with.
Overall, I just felt that there was a lack of effort and oversight of what they were creating (further illustrated by how many changes were made to HoM after many complaints after last weekend).
Its still weird though, because they would still be able to draw me into it again, just by the HoM. This would just be because I would be worried that my character in gw2 (if i were to buy gw2) would be severely disabled by not having had a HoM.
anyway, ya, big disappointment in terms of effort from anet in my view

Get a clue people...if rare skin weapons drop all the time, then they aren't rare anymore...making them COMMON. In other words, it ruins the whole point of showing off all the time you spent making money, because the weapon you paid 1000k for is now being toted around by a "casual" player. Not cool and definitely not "fantastic".

I avidly agree with the original poster. After being a hardcore GW fan for over 2 years in both PvE and PvP topping 5600 hours of play, EN isn't as impressive as I expected.
Given the fact that GW is my favourite game and no one will doubt GW franchise will soon hit 5-million copies sold, it instigates some interesting questions in regards to how the EN team managed to spend their extra resources they had at their disposal.
Considering the development cycle of EN was way longer than those of Factions and Nightfall assuming the development of EN kicked off shortly after the release of Factions, due to the fact that its release date was August 31, not April 27th or so, which should have been a regular planned release date for a stand-alone chapter, I don't quite grasp why EN is a disappointment overall.
The lack of 2 new professions, no new GHs, no addition of elite skills, only 100 PvP-legal nonelite skills as opposed to 300 or 350 that have been the integral part of the last 2 chapters, and lastly no beginner's tutorial guide should have freed a lot of time to work on the high-end stuff.
Nonetheless, the majority of PvE monsters and soundtrack music are reskined & recycled from the previous 3 campaigns. Also why does the armours from other posts I have seen here look awfully similar to the ones I have seen in the past? it seems they reused the skins with some minor modifications. Furthermore, the endgame weapons have EXACTLY same skins as others you have seen. Such as the monk's wand or staff or even the offhand item, their skins have been duplicated exactly and named "droknar's wand." The PvE content isn't as lengthy as I thought it would be either, henching all the missions and dungeons after 8-10 hours of play since the EN server went live, there are some things to be desired with the length as well as the difficulty of EN.
The idea of HoM is neat and I thought I would get to commemorate some of my important titles such as my r13 tomb title, which took me many months of serious tombing, but reading the description under the "Honor", I don't explicitly read any PvP achivements, instead mostly PvE stuff. As well, the storyline definitely seems rushed to some extent, especially towards the very end. Battling the Great Destroyer barely meant nothing more than having to spam LoD with some secondary heal party of some sort.
Even with all these negative aspects said, GW is still my favourite game. Improved graphics, in particular, better textures that you probably have observed from walls, snows etc, better atmospheric effects like fire, rain dazzle my eyes from time to time. Right now, I'm eagerly waiting for the elite mission of EN if it exists. I'm really hoping there is. if not oh well.

I love GW:EN, but I am disappointed that A-Net never put a dog pet in. The most common pet, but we can't have them. Play fetch with a damn crab.

Um...guys.....GW:EN is more of the same because its MORE OF THE SAME.
Its not a radical departure.
IN FACT, GW:EN should have the most reskin and reused things since it is an extension of an already existing theme, that being Tyria.
The 3 Continents are very different, Tyria, Cantha and Elona and only shared certain "core" items (core weapons).
GW:EN shares the most in common since its NOT A NEW PLACE. It just more of Tyria. its an extension.
Its goes to follow that since it is NOT a new place, like Cantha or Elona was, it will not be a radical departure in stylings of weaponry or armor.

How much difference could you expect? There's a reason why some things are similar. It's an extension of what you could find in that part of the continent of Tyria and I like that sense of continuity.
Yes, there's a great deal of recycling in the design and game mechanics but they mostly improve or compliment good game concepts instead of breaking them into an unrecognizable mess.
That by itself is a great thing IMO...

comprende? Let the nice people with the pitchforks and torches have their way, Lyra Song. I am sure there will be ample time for rational thought once the smoke has cleared and the bodies are buried.

It's been out officially for 1 day, and they're already screaming blue bloody murder? What a joke. The game is awesome for what it is. It's worth its money, strictly on the merit that it's a one time fee.
They (ANet) have families, lives, and responsibilities that we only help them pay for in one time purchase fees. I think it's a rather lopesided trade on their side, since they get less from the deal-but if they only ask for that, I'm more than willing to acknowledge a great deal and pounce on it.
GWEN is one such great deal.
As for the concept of rational thought taking over at some time, one must embrace reason to comprehend and endeavour in rational thought. What is reasoned about the OP's statement, or his backers and their agreement with his statement?
I'll leave the answer to you...

Eye of the North is great and I am having a blast with it. I haven't even beaten the game yet and I did the preview. Still tons of quests to do and so on not to mention I havent even completed all the dungeons yet. Still much to do !
