In addition, I should tell you that there is a US publication project coming up in the not-too-distant future.

And for those who say "Make them available to everyone" we do so through our community contests, which include a large number of countries in the world and which a recently as last month allowed us to distribute 100 of the special miniatures previously seen only in Asia.
How about having a contests that a certain region can enter with out being excluded because we aren't part of Europe?!

I'm talking about Australia.

Seriously I think we would love a contest to show us some love, even if we get a crap white 1st birthday mini. :P Just not a celestial mini-pig.
But we both know thats not going to happen.

Well, I put in my two (me and the wife before everyone starts really crying and bought 2 mags) correct answers today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll get one of the 1000

Good luck to everyone else who entered into the contest and I sincerely hope there's only 998 of you!!

CAN THE USA GET 1... JUST 1 SPECIAL MINI???!??!!!

I think, they saw that The Mini Grawl were holding alittle value, and decided to crush it...

Note.. the view of Anet and rewards... Kanaxai and Panda were top lvl guild rewards from a Tournament... that isnt easy... yet, they were also prizes for title contest, "tell a friend", wallpaper contests???

How can one area get TONS of rare minis, yet 1 area of the globe get none?

lol yep no doubt

But don't feel so bad man us Canadians don't get squat unless its a magazine or we travel to states.

We need an ultra rare minipet that only Canadians get first before USA :P

And as for Gaile I doubt many people believe what she got to say after the release of GW:EN now but you have to give her credit for the hell of a job she did for PR. lol

Anet already has America in it's marketing bag. They won't make any more money here with promotions, so why bother rewarding loyal customers when they can go to Europe and Taiwan and reward new customers? There's a lot more money to be made that way.

We did - the mini beetle. Due to client-to-server latency issues, which increase with distance, virtually all of those were given away to American players. (Rollerbeetle isn't unplayable with a high ping, but you have to be a LOT better at it to post a time.)

That said, I'm with you in that I'd like to see more NEW exclusive minis rather than see ANet watering down the old ones via releasing more of them. As noted by other posters, there's no cachet in having a rare minipet if every random guy you run into has one.

ANet: If you don't make items rare, they will have no value to players. Some of us like to collect rare STUFF that other people don't have. In fact, this was the ONLY reason to continue to play most of the old school RPG's that your older player base (who actually make the purchasing decisions, by the way) were brought up on.

If you constantly water down the value of existing items when they become pricier than you'd like, you drive players away. Worse, they're the ones with the money. Just sayin'.

Lag is no reason to claim "America only" like saying, ecto is 250g each for next hour, oh but only the american servers are up...
That wouldnt happen, and there are servers in many countries, and the racers there were compaired to the racers everywhere else.... so it was top 100, not top 100 from each country or anything, just total of top 100 total, overall....

But i totally agree, once an item looses its value, noone wants it, just look at the weapons and everything else... its like anet is trying to bore everyone of GW and pray their boredom make them buy GW2... yet i expect opposite effect.....

Warhammer is looking rather inviting, hahaha

Americans ping lower to the PvP servers. It's simply a fact, borne out by a lot of conversations with a lot of other PvP types.

If you want to get REALLY particular, players from California seem to achieve the lowest pings (I know several players from out that way that regularly ping 50 or less to the server). I ping somewhere around 200-250 normally. Most Euros I know will ping upwards of 300 in PvP.

There were 70 or fewer beetles given away (there were 70 distinct names in the top 100; possible that some distinct names were from the same account, but unlikely). Since it was much easier for Americans to post lower times due to ping disparities, most of the beetles landed in American hands.

All that said - I have to agree that a game with no rare stuff is a boring game.

I know what ANet is trying to do: kill gold sellers. However, it can't be done given the drop system as implemented. If they want to kill gold sellers, loot will have to be given away through a non-transferable reward system similar to the PvP rewards system. Nothing short of that will do.

Also, the irony of the situation is that if they kill the rarity of everything, what will happen is the price of common stuff will rise and, for most players, massive inflation will result. The same amount of money will be in the economy, but all items would be common; the only possible result is for basic stuff (runes, currently common skins) to become much more expensive while the price of the expensive items decreases to the (now higher) price for basic stuff.

Net result: the extremes become poorer and the "middle class" with some access to money benefits. The holdings of the wealthy lose their value entirely; the holdings of the poor become insufficient to buy anything at all. Fundamental stuff necessary for optimal play (runes and basic weapons) get priced out of the range of the poorer players. The winners are the people with some money in addition to possession of the basics necessary for play - they can spend the disposable cash on things they previously had no access to, and an increase in the price of necessities doesn't impact them.

Since ANet has frequently been quoted on how few accounts have much money in their storage, the net result would likely be that a lot more of the player base would be mad at them than happy with them.

I have a suggestion, who cares.

-They are minipets... (that should be my arguement enough yet i will go further!)

-they benefit you in now way except extra money that is not needed

Its tough to think of reasons to have a rare minipet...

MMSDome, its more then just "what reason is there to have a mini pet" its more into "strive to have something to show for your effort"..... or... "are they trying to flatten total ecconomy".....

MMSDome, im guessing ur an adult, and have a job, a car and all that.... why have a computer at all? u dont need it, honestly, noone needs it, just like minis... but u have one because u want one, u want to beable to do things on the computer or what not, that u could do without it, but u still have it....

that is the point.... or even farther... what if some company like Alien Ware suddenly mass produced all their systems, gave out thousands free, but ur area got 0, when rest of the world got loads of them....

this is 2 topics rolled into 1 big mess, and the main thing getting hurt / ruined by it is the game, its economy, and its players....

if anyones says "market / economy dont matter" as long as the trader has items, and those items have numbers next to their name and quantity, it matters.... soon most expensive ingame things will be what the trader is asking for price....

I do recall a rule on this board some time ago pointing out that while Mods aren't grammar nazis, you should at least attempt to write in proper English. The overuse of 'u' in place of 'you' makes my brain hurt and you should be banned for it. Or has this board really gone that far to shit?

Edit: on second thoughts, you shouldn't be banned. You should be shot. Remove yourself from the gene pool, you're a disgrace.

Oh how I wished they still taught proper English at school... is it that hard to write 'you' instead of 'u'?

Also.. have you noticed that none of your teachers require (or want in a lot of cases) you to handwrite your projects? Are you aware that without a computer you can't write a resume that will be accepted by employers, hence leaving you jobless?

In an age where preschool kids get taught how to use a computer and most financial transactions are done via computer/internet, I'd say having a computer is a smart thing.

thought this forum / these forums were for game discussion, not about spelling and grammar... guess i was mistaken... is that the lvl of interest we have in the game now? would rather correct spellings then discuss the matter at hand?

Oh, side note on computer comment.... computers are not a "necessity" for private use at home.... my parents, and many parents are living prof of that, 50+ yrs old, no computer in the house, they get along just fine....

Hey, why not going back IT, the Euro Minipet promotion?

There's a thing that struck me, from what I read in this thread:
Belgium -> 10 million ppl, 1000 minipet codes (confirmed)
Italy -> 60 million ppl, 1000 minipet codes (confirmed)

I see that UK has 2 different magazines giving out the codes, so I'd imagine they receive 2000 codes (can someone confirm?). As opposed, Spain has 3 issues of the same magazine, so I can imagine they have a cumulative 1000 codes.

Sweden (9M ppl) has two magazines giving out codes as well (2000 codes?)

Germany (82M ppl and a strong playerbase) has one magazine (1000 codes?), as well as France (64M ppl).

Basically, even if by just looking at the confirmed figures of Belgium and Italy, I would say: Anet, how the heck have you spread your codes among Europe? O.o'''

That's why I made a remark about the strong german playerbase.

However, I think it's undoubtful that # of players is directly related to # of local population, no? Among other factors, of course.

Then again, 1000 codes in Germany (if confirmed) and 1000 in Belgium sounds very good... for belgians :P

Anyway.

I am sure all the rare minis will become common or less rare eventually. Look at what has happened to all the rare weapon skins; Serpent, Dwarven, Runic etc. all have become common.

That suck!!!

Why the hells they reprint mini pet like Naga, Yeti and Oni. People who have them paid big money to get something "rare" or mostly uncommon. Now if you add so many, it gonna be common like Bone dragon.
What happen to people who bought it last week for 300 ecto ?

For others mini, like grawl, they already said that they gonna reprint them in near futur, so we all knew that. But not for the Asia mini.

Thats totally insane to reprint something that is out of print for almost 12 months.

Add 1000 mini pet for all Europe (650/100/100/100/20/20/10) if you want, Im ok with that.

But if you add 1000 min for each magazine in Europe ... its totally stupid... Its not a promotion ... its dumping.

And if the informations we have is not right , well its because someone is not doing his job.

tbh how is it spoiling a mini pet if there are more around

personally i dont see the point in wasting a massive amounth of plat on a mini pet

its not spoiling them by giving them to more people, also considering they only gave them to the asian players

2 things. first i live in san francisco and i get pings of 200+ wit comcast cable internet, so my ping isnt that much better and ive pvp'ed for 2 years+ now.

2nd, rare items do not necessarily have to be minipets. tyrian 15>50 crystallines and dwarvens are worth boatloads cuz they dont drop anymore. unfortunately, most of them are customized too LOL. well if u want rare items im sure u can go for those (gl). I pretty much expected the rare minis to come flooding in because alot of people in game qq about it frequently. in order to please a majority of players, anet will cater to them too. they've been doing it for a while now, wut wit the incribeable items and whatnot.

OMG herb i sure as hell hope island guardian comes to america. ive opted out of paying 300e for it cuz i figured it woudla been rereleased anyhow (1 year ago mind u). gogogo island guardian ftw!

same. i was offered a panda for 100e like when they were 3/400 e but i just came back from wow so didnt know price >.< and its my favourite pet. 2nd fav. is island guardian. wont think about getting either until all these maagazines and promo things are out of the way. too risky imo.

i bet as soon as its announced what is in american mags they will be dumped rly cheap. like zheds today at 300e a piece.

---------------------------------------------------

can anyone verify it is 1000 pets for europe. or is it 1000 pets per magazine? as i wana buy a zhed but not 100% sure. will there be like 20 more zhed or is there going to be hundreds more?

tyrians bro tyrians. not the cheapie inscribable crap. BURN ALL INSCRIBES. SCREW HA INSCRIBES! ruined the fun for me in ha imo, but that was just the pve in me talking.

im not sure but i think its each country gets at least 1000 because the pc gameply one said there were 1000's, and its just for 1 country.

thats one aspect of collectors that i just dont get. why spend more for an inherent when you can get the exact some skin in an inscribable version which adds more versatility to builds.

sure, req8 inherents may cost a little more simply because of the lower req, but who in their right mind would pay boatloads more for say an inherent req9 15^50 crystalline over an inscribable one?

if anything, i kinda feel bad that collectors have gone to such lengths to redefine rarity in this game.

oh well, better for me i guess, since ive sold most of my req8s and bought the equivalent skins in inscribable versions for a fraction of the cost.

So are there 1000 codes total,
or 1000 codes each country?

Europe and America are not the only continents in this world... but hey, its way to hard to punch in few lines of code to cater for the loyal and supportive fans else where. Love your work Anet.

Non Inscribable drop less than Inscribable or in some cases not at all.

I can think of a few R9 15>50 non inscribable Crystalline while I know of what seems hundreds of inscribable ones.

Rarity is everything.
