How to kill Destroyers effectively?
Mr. Fahrenheit
I keep getting killed by them in the mission Destruction's Depth...
Anyone have a strategy or hero builds I could use against them?

Yeah, I read about their resistance against fire and earth damage but I still keep getting killed by them.

The "immune to burning" thing made me chuckle when I first saw it.
Spiteful Spirit and MM necros with a Blinding Surge + Epidemic Ele works nicely, especially in the Glint's Challenge mission.

1. Weakness (Enfeebling Blood, Ward of Weariness)
2. Wards (vs Melee e.g.)
3. Hexes like Reckless Haste, Blurred Vision - the main danger are the melee ones, the spellcasters did not really dish out major damage. Maybe because I run Curse Necro + 2 B/P Rangers with interrupts, MM, Zho, Herta, Mhenlo and Lina.
4. Mark of Pain + physical damage dealers (minions, pets, warriors, rangers)
I think curse necros do especially well against them. Melee Shutdown wins against them.

I have been using Heroes/henches... I keep a warrior and 2 eles in my lineup... one ele uses arcane echo/sandstorm, ebon hawk, stoning/glowstone and glyph of energy(iirc, the one that < next 2 skills by 15 E)... the other is a water snare ele with deep freeze and such. Send in warrior, and freeze/sandstrom/weakness/knockdown them...works pretty well. We still die on occasion (usually someone running out of energy), but when taking a moment between mobs, I have not had any major issues with the story line and several dungeons. (This works well on jotun also)
Redfeather1975
I usually use Enfeebling Blood+Oppressive Gaze, and Necrosis in my Destroyer fighting builds.

[skill]Savannah Heat[/skill] + [skill]Winter[/skill] = Destroyer-Rape.
[skill]Sandstorm[/skill] + [skill]Winter[/skill] works too... if you'd rather have a defensive ward-fest going on.
Now I think about it, I really ought to invest in an Earth Ele Hero.

I'll be using a Sandstorm/warder build for myself and whatever I feel would work at the time on my necro and monks. So far my build has completely paralysed most forms of melee. I'll probably use Gwen or a necromancer to take care of the casters.

Conjure Frost + Glacial Blade (or your other favourites) for War
Minion bomber for Necros.
Malestrom for Eles (Or the above SH + Winter combo), this helps keep the spellcasters at bay.
Also, The Deldrimor skill line has some nice abilities to counter them.

Raven's Blessing is pretty good. You first get to try it against the destroyers in A Gate Too Far, but I used it all the way up to the end (and in Glint's Challenge) once I obtained the PvE-skill version of it. It can cripple, blind, and adjacent-AoE spike the destroyers, who really love to clump up together.

You know that other profession that also exists?
Oh yea, Mesmer. They have something lovely called domination magic. Give it a try, although it isnt part of the holy trinity, so i suppose thats out of the question.
Oh well, never mind.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, they were really helpful and I finally managed to finish the mission.

And if your really lazy you can use what I used:
Barrage + Conjure Ice - Spam spam spam... dead Destroyers I also take Winter with me as well for the benefit of the other NPCs / Players

For future reference running 60 AL heroes with under 500 health was probably another reason why you were having problems with the mission.

Norn Title-Track Bonus Effect FTW!

I can't help notice in the pictures you have Rebel Yell on you
Vs Destroyers try displaying your Dwarf Title so spells heal you and do bonus damage

I havnt found them to be difficult yet.
Lady Erighan
I think Destroyers are actually one of the less difficult creatures in EotN to kill. Now, a group of 4-5 lvl 28 Tarranuses (with a few Raptor patrols aggroing)...that will get your heart pounding.

Minion bomber build without deathnova -__-
What is the point of jagged bones MM without deathnova? He's a necro, drop powerdrain and give him deathnova damnit. He has infinite energy.

This is what I run vs Destroyers
ME - A Echo spoil victor nec with mark of pain
Gwen - Fast casting fire nuker
Vekk - Earth Aoe with unsteady ground elite
Xandra - Defensive spirit spammer for general support
and mhenlo lina zho talon for henchy slots.
I had no problem at all vs them, they fall like flies. Spoil Victor bakes em nukers eat em.

Energy Blast works wonders against them and if you have Ele attunement + Air/Fire/Earth attunement, + glyph of lesser energy, you dont really need to worry about it losing its effectiveness. You could also try obsidian flame if you have a way to counter the ehxastion, or just go air though its mediocre at best.
Best thing would be to just bring a long a couple of SS necros and let them do all the work.
I wouldn't reccomend fire or earth at all, unless your using earth for defensive purposes. Thier resistence just makes you end up dealing 20 damage when you normally deal 120, and no burning affect makes it even more of a stupid choice. Gwen as a fire nuker!?!? Better off just using an actual Ele that has +3 Ele runes on him.

All destroyers seem to have stupid armor vs just about anything, especiallu fire magic, naturally, so I use blind to help keep people alive. The AI is godly at using Blinding Flash, you only have to go through Kryta as a physical damage dealer to know that.
Giving Elementalists skills like Magnetic Surge and Energy Blast can prove useful, as these are both sources of armor ignoring damage.

If you're looking for armor ignoring damage, wouldn't a necro be better with all their shadow damage/life steal?

I found 2 Eles with Savannah Heat and other AoE spells worked nicely

/Disagree. You'll deal only around 10 damage each second with savnnah heat. Though its true if there's enough enemies around it can add up to a lot of damage since its AOE, but taking out single targets extremely quickly with abilites like energy blast is a lot more effective. Also, if you really wan to deal aoe damage then just use AOE curses with neco.
TechnoSword
To fight the destroyers, we must think like the destroyers. We can ill afford another Klendathu. /endcornyness
Sorry I had to say it lol thats like the first thing that popped into my head if you know what reference that is from. My warrior uses Ursun Blessing and kicks but with strikes, kd's and roars for weakness. Eles use water skills, necro uses ss/faintheartedness/insidious all that good stuff, aim for Compassion first! Those dervishes can be quite nasty AlienFromBeyond

I was more thinking about using necro heroes, not being a lame E/N. I never mentioned trying to do that. I think a classic dark bomber would work well, as long as you remember to give them melee weapons so they're in range for Dark Aura.
DvM
I use Winter+Savannah heat+SavannahHeat+savannaheat+deepfreeze+Earthquak e..
Just time your hearoes and they drop like flies, balled up mobs oftne do not get a chance to escape from the heats and die withing 4-5 seconds. genofreek
Absolutely seconding Blessing of the Raven or whatever the hell it's called when coming up against destroyers. Blind/crippled/bleeding/AoE damage FTFW.
malevolence
and you can take a lot of this:

Thank you...I play Elementalist primary, and it would be silly of my to just go 12 Curses for Spiteful Spirit etc.. When I could take blind or snares, along with the armor ignoring sexyness of Energy Blast.

Let the [skill]Death Blossom[/skill] bodies hit the [skill]Moebius Strike[/skill] floor.
[ From my shorter experience during a certain Norn mission... I'm honestly not sure why people have difficulty with Destroyers.... let alone the physical attackers. I've got the holy trinity all on me at once: CA/CD/WoP. Only the Mesmers ever pose a problem. ] Lauryn
I always find spamming poison and bleeding around to be quite effective, unlike most creatures they can't be set on fire but they're still 'fleshy' lol - must have some uber flesh
Also bring a ranger with [skill]winter[/skill] always handy Cebe

Since PuGs are few and far between in EotN, posting the message "GLF Assassin", as opposed to a popular glass such as Monk, in an outpost for a primary quest might cause everyone in there to faint. I would certainly be using skills such as those when I take my useless Assassin through EotN, but for the time being, I'll stick with my Necro and Ele heroes. SotiCoto

I would certainly be using skills such as those when I take my useless Assassin through EotN, but for the time being, I'll stick with my Necro and Ele heroes. Zenmai and Anton couldn't use the build properly anyway. It just becomes a joke without Critical Agility... At Sunspear Castellan I get a nifty +22 armour, and the 33% faster critical hits ensure lots of health back and keep up Critical Defenses. Without that, the healing would be diminished, the damage diminished AND the armour reduced. A bad joke... basically. That is why I always cover up Critical Agility with another enchant before running into range of those damned Mesmers. Esan
In Glint's Challenge, the single most useful skill is Edge of Extinction. I got to 2100 points solo with heroes by just camping the dragon with 3x splinter barragers, 1x MM + Mark of Pain, Mhenlo, Lina, Herta and Aidan.
For those saying bring Winter, remember that Winter kicks in after damage. If you do fire damage and depend on Winter, their fire resistance will first lower the fire damage, and then Winter will convert it to cold damage. (This is possibly a bug with Winter.) SotiCoto

Has it always been this way?
Is it still this way? I distinctly recall using Winter to mow through Hell's Precipice with the greatest of ease.... so I'm fairly sure it wasn't bugged then... |
