I don't know if a thread like this has been made yet, but I'm curious - when Guild Wars 2 arrives (even though it's still a long way off), what race/profession will you go as? I'm guessing they'll be similar to World of Warcraft, where you pick a race and a profession, but the race will have the primary attribute instead. I've decided to make one character for each new race (hopefully there will be like 4 character slots added, like with the first Guild Wars), but my main is going to be a sylvari/ranger. I also want a Norn/mesmer who does domination magic. I don't know about the Asura or Charr yet, but I'm leaning toward an elementalist for one and maybe a monk or warrior for the other. Or necromancer. hehe What about everyone else?

It is way too early to tell. I doubt the devs even know what classes will be in GW2. Also, this statement makes me suspect a trolling atempt:

Why would Jeff Strain announce that it's a bad business decision to make a game like some other game but better, then turn around and get GW2 to be like WoW?

No, GW2 won't me like WoW. Also, I'd say we'd have the 10 classes we have now. Races, I dunno, they might have races. I know what I will play though, assuming they have them:

Ranger, Monk, Warrior, Mesmer, Assassin, Necromancer, Dervish and Elementalist.

Asura/Elementalist. I dunno why, but I just love those egotistical li'l guys.

Never used to play caster classes until I played GW either, but somehow I've developed a fondness for the Elementalist proffesion.

Well I meant like WOW as in race/profession. Or class/whatever they use. Althought it's been confirmed that yes there are playable races, and yes we'll be able to jump, climb, swim, etc. But I think it'll still be better because Guild Wars is free! hehe

At first I thought I'd be a Charr ritualist. Although this is still a strong possibility, especially after seeing how cool they look in EotN, I'm considering a Sylvari instead. But my first character will almost definitely be a rit (assuming they use the same classes as GW1). Otherwise, I might do a ranger of some sort. Or a dervish. My three favourite professions in GW1, hopefully they'll exist in GW2 as well.

A sylvari is a race we didn't get to see (at least not much of) in GWEN that will be playable in Guild Wars 2. They're supposed to have a special connection to plants and know nothing of hate and pain. Here is a picture of one.

I think more info is on guildwiki hehe

Edit: Wow it wasn't supposed to be that big. I can't resize it. lol Sorry.

You mean like the typical D&D style of building a character? WoW was hardly one to do it first -_-

Ah, well I don't call myself a gamer, as Guild Wars is the only game I play. Online anyway. So I'm not sure about all that. I just know my fiance also plays WoW so I was just using it as an example.

You know, if you EVER bothered to buy the PC Gamer magazine of may 2007, you would have noticed that the dual profession system is staying. They are just adding a NEW attribute with it's own skills based on your RACE as well. Although it is not specified what those professions will be, and whether the Factions and Nightfall professions would be introduced with release. I mean they have to keep SOMETHINGS for EXPANSIONS right? Tyria first, maybe Elona next and Cantha expanded after?

Personally, I'll make a Human Necro, Charr Warrior, and Sylvari Assassin, maybe Asura Elementalist, and Norn something.

lol I didn't even take into consideration that human may also be a playable race in Guild Wars 2. I assume they would be, but then again, I don't know. Maybe it'll only focus on the new ones. But I'll definately be a human too if they exist! Even if it means buying another character slot so I'll have one of each race. hehe

I'm going to be human, and probably an elementalist. But if they have another class that catches my eye, like a druid or hedge wizard then I'll play as them.

Don't they have something like that in Final Fantasy 11? Anyways, I will probably make a human ranger. I've actually been thinking about the OP's question lately since I don't like it how I've spread myself out over my five characters (I'd like to add a sixth also) and I figure that if GW2 operates any where close to how GW1 operates I can make a ranger and if I get bored of that they can also make a decent warrior (better than a mending wammo anyways) or a decent paragon without having to spread myself out across the three classes.

Ah-huh... No humans was a possibility in your mind? Why? Seeing as they inhabit two nations on tyria and the majority of Cantha and Elona...

Human/Warr is a definate for me. Gotta continue my main characters lineage.

Charr/Derv would be mightily interesting... Seeing a charr pirouetting with a scythe.

Sylvari or Human for my Ranger class. The Sylvari looks to have some kind of a connection to Melandru ie Ranger God, that might provide a link there.

Right now, I'd have to say "Not Here". The no level limit thing they're introducing doesn't give me much hope that they'll rediscover the balanced skill>time game that they left behind with pve skills in gw1.

GW2 seems to become even more generic and juvenile than GW1. Maybe we will one day praise the disjointed Storylines of GW1 as the pinnacle of fine storytelling *cough*.

Norns - big bad dumbasses.
I actually like heroic fantasy and stuff like that, but the cartoony silly ass attitude of the norns turned me totally off. They also look like walking beerkegs. Also seem to be destined to become the bear tank of GW2.

Sylvari - tree huggers
"We have a special connection to plants and know nothing of pain and hate".... ewwwwwww! And we also look like generic anime-treehuggers, no thanks. This esoteric babble is not my ideal of "being one with nature" or a ranger.

Charr - actually quite okay
Yet it seems to boil down to a fight of rebel charr vs religious fanatics, basically islamists. They also cannot stop grinning like some kind of bronze chinese dragon statue.

Humans
The generic choice. Maybe this time male warriors are not overweight bodybuilders, this seems to be reserved to the Norns.

Female Sylvari Ranger - closest I can get to my good old Female Half Elf Ranger in DnD. Tie between Norn and Charr Warrior.
