Why non-max gold drops in GWEN?
freekedoutfish
I can understand why we got non-max gold drops in prophercies, factions and nightfall (even in high end areas) because you can start new chars in those specific campaigns. Your likely to have low-end characters in those games who dont need maxed weapons (or thats my logic).
But GWEN is intended as purely high end content and you will only get high end players there. So why are we still getting gold drops which arent max?
Ive found gold drops which are so bellow the max level it beggers belief. You stand there for about minute thinking "WTF..."!
I appreciate that they dont want the game flooded with hundreds of maxed GWEN gold weapons, but gold drops are rare anyway. I maybe only get one or two a day during quite a few hours of play.
Is it too much to have expected atleast all gold drops (although you could include white, blue and purple into this arguement) in GWEN to be max?
Its actually worse because you get some really low requirement gold drops in GWEN. I only just now found a req5 smiting Baneful Scepter, but then you realise tis 9-16 and your jaw hits the ground (concidering max is 11-22).
I also appreciate the idea that you could give such a low end weapon to a new player and they would make good use of it. But how many of you dont just sel your non-max golds straight to the merchant? how many of you actually keep them?
This is meant to be purely high end content, so IMO all the high end drops should be max. Especially when its imperitave that we have max weapons ready to use against the (supposedly) the toughest creatures yet!

Each and every chest in GW:EN is the equivalent of a regular 600-gold-per-key chest. I think that's wrong, they should scale it up in some places. Master level dungeons should be the equivalent of a 750-gold-per-key, and the elite dungeon should be equivalent to 1,250-gold-per-key. One of the chests I opened in the Forgewight level of Slaver's Exile gave me a non-max purple. That's just wrong for supposedly elite content. Purple, sure, they can't all be gold, but effing non-max? Sucks.

Yeah, the drops don't make sense to any degree whatsoever. Anyone who's coming into GWEN will (and should) have maxed armor and weapons already, due to the lvl requirement. The fact that hardly anything is maxed, even the golds, is unnerving. I've gotten only one non-dungeon chest gold item, and it was a req9 (!!) sword... dmg 11-15. Well, add .01% to my Wisdom track..
Also, the fact that the chests are supposed to have a higher lockpick retention rate is BS, I've broken all 20 I've used in GWEN. Never using lockpicks again...until HM.

And if you don't have extremely good luck, I wouldn't recommend it. I can't help but wonder who in their right mind(s) decided to use LOCKED CHESTS in NORMAL MODE. Hard-Mode cost with Normal-Mode rewards FTL!!
Monster drops are just pathetic. Non-max whites and the occasional non-max purple. Rarely a crap gold. For me, Elona>>>>>>>>>>EotN, drop-wise.

Yep, GWEN drops suck big time. I don't even bother buying lockpicks, waste of money.

This confuses me as well, I'd like to see a change.

hmmm, all my purple weapons were maxed(dropped by monster), all 3 gold shields and 1 gold divine staff were maxxed but mod's sucked, and as apposed to the locked chest in Normal mode, I LOVE IT, and, Stop, Think, Read- in Hard Mode the chest drop rate is going to increase, i mean why bother putting high end weapons in normal mode???(it defeats the purpose of hard mode) i still buy lock picks as 1 lock pick i bought(first to use in GWen) lasted 6 chest before it broke, oh but i on the other hand would like to see the monsters drop there GREEN 'Unique' weapons, i farmed the same boss all day that is suppose to drop a green axe(stonebreaker) and the best he dropped was a blue insignia --+15hp on chest
+10hp on leggings
+5hp on other
and after a day of doing that i decide to farm all the bosses in that area a few times over and not 1/4 dropped a weapon they were suppose to
centuar-greenbow(drakkar lake)
mesmer-????(drakkar lake)
dervish-scythe(drakkar lake)
warrior-axe/stone breaker(drakkar lake)

Ok, but you seem to have missed an important point. Why, then, are the chests in NORMAL MODE required to be opened with a LOCKPICK, which usually belong in HARD MODE, where the better drops make up for the higher cost? That's kinda the whole problem in the first place. You yourself just said that the "better drops" are in Hard Mode. So why, then, are Lockpicks required in Normal Mode? Can you name anywhere else in the game where a Lockpick is REQUIRED to open a Normal Mode chest?
As I said, Hard Mode cost with Normal Mode rewards FTL. If we're going to be required to use a lockpick to open Normal Mode chests, the drops should be adjusted to reflect that.

Yeah, I'm getting 90% purple grapes from the GW:EN chests...
It seems like any other normal mode chest in other campaigns, except we're forced to use lockpicks.

At least gold drops should always be max. Just the req being 7..13.
I MP I
Well when I finished killing Duncan The Black, the chest spawned and everyone got 2 onyx gemstones and a deldrimor armor remnant. It gave me a gold req 11 runic blade. Was really excited since I never had one. Until after it was identified: no RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing inscription slot. WTF is the point of an elite dungeon chest dropping worthless uninscribable shit?
CHunterX
I have gotten more max damage purples with inscription slots than I have golds with max damage. I think the drops are backwards.

For every one of you people not finding anything decent, there's another over in Ventari's selling their lucky wares. There are plenty of gold drops happening, they just can't happen for us all or what would be the point?
(Before I gave up bringing LPs to EoTN I had about 60/40 Purple/Gold with around 40% LP retention.)
Gold max and valuable items have to be rare or they wouldn't be exciting. Also, this is NM and as such abides by the same principles when regarding drops.
Wait for HM and see what happens. You're wasting your Lock-picks on chests atm, if you want the chance of EoTN shiny things I'd stick with dungeon crawls for now.
-
Non-max in a lvl 20 area isn't a massive issue. Even if you found all max, 90% of your loot from these chests would still be nothing but merch food. If you're just looking for function, then the money you spend on LPs could be put toward crafter items or any of the hundreds of golds floating about for ridiculously cheap prices in trade.

I strongly agree the drops have been abysmal. Wasted a fair bit of gold on the chests that are supposedly of 1.5k lockpick value

My wife got two golds this morning while we were out getting Vanguard points. One was a drop, the other from a chest. Get this - neither had an inscription slot. No, not any inherents or anything, just no inscription, period. That's just wrong.
I personally feel that the chest drops should at least all be max [in GW:EN]. And at the very least, purples and golds should always have an inscription slot. Just dumb, very dumb.

two things ive seen that i had to ask myself why anet had such a sense of humor first was a wyvern blade dropped in glints challenge that was like req 7 so everyone was going nuts...then we saw dmg like 8-11 and second a purp serpant axe req 4 :P

Same here. And if I get one as a drop, I send it off to my War, who spends his time in NF and Proph, instead of GWEN.
The drops in GWEN really need to pick up. That's probably the only thing I'm disappointed about in GWEN, other than the lack of Polymock PvP and the lack of any new Elite skills.

Short of greens, haven't got a single drop worth keeping. Occasionally a good mod you salvage off but not a single item worth modding up.
Crom The Pale
Id like to see the number of drops decrease, and the quality go up. Not asking for 10-20 gold drops on a map. What I would like is to kill 100 monsters and get 10 max items, 8 blue modable, 1purple, 1 gold/green.
I cleared all of Varajar Fells, 425 monsters, got 1 gold and 3 purple, non max white about 50-60. I was constantly running back and forth to the merchant on this map just to unload junk, good thing it is one of the only ones with a merchant in GW:EN.
As for chests, I'd like to see lockpicks retained if a purple item is found, maybe for up to 5chests unless a gold item is inside. This would make some sence as 5purple = 1 lockpick or should at least come close.

I suspect that the locked chests in GW:EN are "unfinished", the devs stuck them in there and ran out of time before deciding how to name them and what value keys would be used to open them in whatever area ect, so they just left them all at a default mid range level and put lockpicks at every merchant.
The other annoying thing is the level of coin drops in Gwen, I went back to Cantha yesterday to help someone do some quests around Cavalon and all the mobs would drop 1-3 piles of coins, all around 100g. This really highlights the low coin drops in GW:EN where you can clear 3-4 mobs and maybe get 1 pile of coins.

Im getting gold drops that are so unbelievably low req AND low damg level that its just staggering. GWEN is the first time that I have ever found a gold sceptor which was 9-16..... 9-16, I mean come on. I might have let 11-21 or 10-20 go! But 9-16 is just far too low for a gold weapon. They shouldnt really go any lower then 1 or 2 points bellow max IMO.
Ive even found white and blue weapons that are the same level as pre-ascalon damage and requirement!!! Hm me thinks!!
But the GWEN gold drops seem to taking it to a new low. The lowest I have ever experienced in 2 years of playing. And considering this is a high end expansion, its a piss take.

They are RARE, they are alrady 'hard' to find. No need to make them useless once found.
Even if the price is decreasing a bit their occurences, it would still worth it.

slightly off topic but why don't lockpicks drop in GW:EN?
every other area drops keys for the chests in that area but not GW:EN
Droprate for max weapons in GW:EN generally is insane, lvl 24 bosses that drop nonmax weapons? WTF please don't try tell me those things that are whiping my party have nonmax weapons

Totally agree.
I've played through the level 20 content in all 3 campaigns but this expansion with its all level 20 content is totally different drop wise.
I've been lucky and maybe 3 out of 8 chests opened (before I realised i was onto a loser) where golds (but not special) - none worth mentioning
I've had 1 gold item drop from a mob - very exciting until I realised it was MIN damage , I suppose the only reason it was gold was the +29 fortitude hilt.
Regular mobs drop significantly less money than other campaigns. I'm use to killing mobs of 10 level 20s and having a couple of piles of gold coins to collect - but not in GWEN. Can kill mobs in GWEN and getting nothing. What with the non max white drops. Of use to absolutely no one playing in GWEN , just filling inventory until it can be sold to merchant for fodder.
Perhaps because Henchman have better skills now they have asked for a pay rise and now get a bigger share of drops

GWEN drops and chests are MUCH worse than prophecies, factions, or nightfall as a whole. I expected - since this is a high end area with more difficult mobs - it to be better, not worse. I was EXTREMELY disappointed as well.

WTB lockpicks for 1.2k each from everyone here who does not want to "waste" it on GWEN chests!
The only reason to use lockpicks in GWEN (until HM comes out) is if you are going for the lucky/unlucky/and treasure hunter titles. Out of 10 chests I have about a 50-60% retention rate of picks and get about 2-3 gold drops out of 10. Most (90%) are worthless, but ocassionally I get a half decent inscription or mod.
I do agree however that gold weapons should be Max and should be inscribable like they are in Nightfall.

I was so happy to see a GOLD TRIBAL AXE (inscribable) drop for me! Then I picked it up and ID it and I'm thinking mods suck but I can upgrade those! Then I look at the damage of it, 10-20. WTF I yell! I got it in one of the Norn area dungeons, cant recall which right now.

personally I think this will continuie until HM comes out and I am ok with the non-max golds till then. The chests however need to change, I wont open them anymore cause if I wanted grapes I chest run in vabbi, the Kurz area or luxon area, or southern shiverpewaks where keys are cheeper!!!!

Anet got a tad lazy I think we all agree on that, but life sux and ya can't always get what ya want. If you don't like the drops in GW:EN then don't play simple as that I hate the drops too but meh, I really don't care anymore its old news. Not just the golds should be max but purples, blues and yeah even whites should be since this is a "high-end" area where you fight lvl 20-24 monsters. Fish if you can understand why we get non max golds in all three of the camapigns why not GW:EN? RoF is a high end area yet still possible to get a non max gold there, or all of the domains in NF or even from keining city to imperial sanctum in factions.
Kalendraf
I've been saying it for a while now. The rewards (item drops, etc) are not worth the risk (increased difficulty, etc) in GW:EN. If and when a gold item does manage to drop, it's a craptastic one far below max and usually has poor mods.
For the past few days I've been helping some friends back in NF (normal mode) where we've actually been getting greens and max gold item drops at a rate higher than I ever saw before. From what I've seen, I'm definitely going to stick to NF. It's really a no-brainer:
NF (moderate risk, good rewards) vs. GW:EN (significant risk, poor rewards)
Until they fix the risk vs. reward problems in GW:EN, I have no incentive to play there.

GW:EN drops in general need a serious upgrade.
I've yet to find a single skin even worth using, since a majority of the golds I obtain are either:
A) Skin's from previous chapters
B) Non-max Golds
C) Lack any good mods what so ever.
D)A combination of the above. What a load of horseshit that is.

I agree. I've been so disappointed with GWEN so far, it's not even funny. This info makes me wanna do FoW.

I agree drops in GW:EN seem poor.
However, I came from GWEN after playing a lot of Hard Mode including some solo farming. Do the level 20 normal mode areas in the other campaigns really have much better drops than GW:EN?
With respect to the chests, the retention rates of the GW:EN chests I've opened are equivalent to 600g key chests. With my bonuses, I'm getting close to 50% retention. The equivalent chests in the other campaigns (e.g., Canthan, Luxon, Kournan, etc.) yield a lot of purples.
If drops are your primary motivation, you should play HM in the other campaigns until HM for GW:EN is available. Right now, reputation and the other unique things GW:EN has to offer are more important to me.

Just had a 13-26 gold flatbow drop for me. Not including chests and the level 10-15 destroyers in Glint's, this is my first gold drop in GWEN. Very disappointing. x-x It dropped from level 20 frogs. Aren't level 20s supposed to drop max things??
