"What do you expect from the PvP expansion?"
Taki
Say what?
Now my bro's a smart guy... but the question in the title could make even his mother think otherwise. First of all, there hasn't been jack said about a PvP expansion or anything resembling it. Then of course there's the fact that the majority of the community prefers PvE only. ANet realized this and responded by shifting their focus primarily to please (appease?) the larger customerbase. Nothing wrong with that - it's business lil' man, you'll understand when you grow up. And don't forget how poor Andrew Patrick has been turned into a PvP martyr, shunned by his own colleagues who laugh and throw corn chips at him while he sits in the dark, unheated, corner office. Given all this I had to question my bro's sanity, being careful of his fragile mental state.
"Well, if eotn is virtually a[n] [unfinished] PvE expansion, wouldn't you think they'll release a mostly PvP expansion down the road? What else do you expect they would do after putting the finishing touches on eotn to keep people interested until GW2?" Haven't they catered to both audiences in the past?
I was shocked. What happened to him and why didn't I notice it earlier?? Maybe I could have done something to save him... maybe I could have done something to slow it down. More importantly, how would my life be like if I had to take care of him... would I feel bad if I dumped him at Shady Acres or would I have to give him the Old Yeller treatment?
Gently I explained to him that the 'finishing touches' for eotn included bug fixes, a few carrots here and there, as well as hard mode. Then I reminded him of how long it took for HM to be released for DoA - and how much larger eotn is compared to it. I brought up the work necessary to push the bonus missions out by November and development for GW2, even split accross the two teams. No, there is already too much for ANet to do from here and beyond GW2 for them to piece together a PvP centered expansion.
And "catered to both audiences?" I told him to leave the past behind because like his relationship with that hot green-eyed girl, it was full of painfull memories, broken promises, lies, love triangles, and $3000 in autobody repair bills.
That said, I can't remember a time in my life where he has ever been wrong. So...... what do you expect from the PvP expansion?

Star Gazer
more nerfs and buffs like they have been doing. QQ
Bryant Again
I'm hoping for lots, but expecting nothing.
axe
I would be more than happy paying for
1) 8v8 Random Arenas leech free
2) 12v12 organized AB
3) Sealed and Draft Tournaments
4) Balthazar Factions NPC's offering weapons, armor, items for faction
5) A seperate HA arena that was the old Tombs version (Altar Cap)
6) Maybe include a way for a pure PUG team to play a GvG, like an outpost that you could go to and PUG a team to face GvG opponents. (Probably have to do something about the ladder because of that I dont know)

My money is on their never being a "PvP Expansion". Anet made EotN focus on PvE partially because PvP players were getting upset about the massive imbalances introduced every new chapter. Making EotN PvE focused minimized it's effects on the PvP meta-game.
DreamWind
Um...there isn't going to be a PvP expansion. Anet gave up on real PvP.
cjb909
I also don't think there will be a huge PVP expansion. There's already a concern that there isn't a big enough PvP population to support all the different game types, making more arenas would make things worse. Do you want more places like Jade Quarry? Its the same reason the Dragon Arena and Beatle Racing aren't offered all the time.
Mr. G
I dont see anything theyd add to PvP to warrent its own expansion...
glountz
I don't know, a ping that can reach 20000?
Skuld
PvP isn't profitable, there is no reason for them to release one.
Dougal Kronik
I don't see an expansion in the future, but possibly a few small free updates.

1vs1 is coming.
it will be based on ideas from polymock.

I don't agree that more PvP arenas = bad because there's not enough people to play or split among them. Create something fun and entertaining and people will play it. Look at the still popular dragon arena and rollerbeetle racing. PvPers, PvErs and hybrids can all be seen there. People also like Jade Quarry but it would probably see more action if it was in a more favorable location. Give access to it through the battle isles and cartographers would never again have to post on forums to get an exploration group going.
New arenas/modes still don't seem likely though, so I personally might expect something more along the line of skills, additional maps, misc. tweaks, or even options out the ear added to existing gametypes. Perhaps finding someway to making PvP more accessible to casual players. That'd be nice, yep yep, that'd be nice.

Seriously, I don't think any PvPer is expecting much anymore. Roll over and die. That way you won't waste bandwith.

I would honestly not be surprised if one of the things ANet does to keep people interested until GW2 was some sort of a PvP improvement. That said, I don't believe there will be a full "PvP expansion," though a "PvP update," a-la Sorrow's Furnace or what we got during the Factions preview (PvP moved to Battle Isles, HoH changed, etc.) seems quite possible.

There is a whole PvP expanison out there called FACTIONS. The areas are empty. Why should they do more.

Except for the fact the "PVP" Factions added was terrible when compared to the high end pvps we have had. Saying crap like Aspenwood and Jade Quarry is actual pvp is a huge reason this game has stopped being competitive pvp quality. o_~

Um...except Factions 'PvP' had Hard Mode available for weeks. How do you explain that? Oh right, it's not PvP. It's competitive PvE.
I don't expect an expansion. Knowing Anet, they'll either throw in some poorly made fixes, or do nothing. PvP is dead already, so it doesn't really matter.

That's a great idea, they should implement this immediately.

I doubt anet will release anything new to PvP. If they even had a slight thought about it, they would have made some new Guild Halls and new arenas when they releasing GW:EN. But they haven't and fact is, I think they could careless about PvP, most notable from how far downhill PvP has gone ever since Nightfall was released.

Jade Quarry - arena which had (does it still have I dunno) a critical bug and battles were won by those who decided to abuse it. Other than that, too similiar to Fort Aspenwood and FA was better. Also, I didn't like map design, but that's personal I guess.
Fort Aspenwood - a great map with one flaw: leechers. Leechers completely kill this map to the point when it's unplayable. Most battles are decided but who has less leechers
Alliance Battles - PvPvE map which is more PvE than PvP. Winning consists of running in circle and killing NPCs. If you waste your time killing real players, you probably lost. If you look at who plays AB you'll mostly see PvErs.
Faction professions - Ritualist is a failure as a PvP profession, I don't think any other class was played as little in PvP as Rt. Blame it on the skill balances.
What PvP chapter? You must be kidding.
nugzta
PvP arenas in Faction are merely casual PvP which is aimed for PvE players, until now those arenas are still dominated by PvE players.

Anyway, you are right, factions sucked at PvP.
What Anet does is create more more more, because more sounds like better. People want more stuff. The only remotely good new form of PvP is hero battles, but even that is flawed.
Anyway: GW2 will solve all of our problems.
TsunamiZ
part of the reason more people play pve is because pvp chars get all the crappy looking gear. when you look at it, there is very few gameplay options in pvp compared to pve. and anet still haven't tried to change that in gw:en.

It brought Hero Battles with really boring metagame as all teams contains A/W player, Razah or Olias, Acolyte Jin and Tahlkora and when NF came, the game was full of imbalanced ellites which took months to balance them. (sorry bor bad eng)
mafia cyborg
for the xmas and new year festivity anet will introduce polymock as a 1vs1 game. i would personally prefer a normal 1vs1....but i guess polymock is just to get the ball rolling.

PvP? In my Guild Wars?
It's less likely than you'd think.
