Mouseclick Pathfinding going down-hill.
SotiCoto
Something really has come to my attention lately... and it is annoying as hell.
Back when I started Guild Wars.... in Factions as it happens... I distinctly remember charging all over Shing Jea, and often targeting things around the edge of a hill, behind several trees or behind a building... then pressing space.... and my character would quite contendly run around them to get to it.
I started having trouble in the Realm of Torment in Nightfall when a single torment creature could apparently block my getting to another one, forcing me to keyboard-strafe around them.
But GW:EN has got totally ridiculous.
So far... I've been blocked getting to a pile of gold by a single tree root (which took less than a centimetre's sidestep to get around manually), blocked from getting to a sword by a small tuft of leaf (the very edge of an overhanging branch, once again taking barely any strafing to get around before it was a straight line there)... bodyblocked by a ghost repeatedly in the Shards of Orr (despite my corporeal party-members not impeding my process at all).... prevented getting to the merchant in Rata Sum by no more than a slight ridge in the ground that I couldn't even see at first.... and at least once my character has just stopped running on the way to an item for no reason whatsoever.
Are the days of target+space numbered? Are we going to have to manually maneuver EVERYWHERE from now on? Is this some sort of cunning plan to thwart botters or what?

Perhaps the worst of it is.... sometimes I run into outposts where I can see the name of the merchant or Xunlai chest.... but don't know how to get to them.... and without some sort of system where the character will take the shortest route there automatically, I end up having to play follow-the-wall until I eventually find the damnable things...
Sca2pula
my guess is that it has something to do with bots and preventing them from moving around outposts
judgedread33
The merchants and stuff are often behind booths so they cant physicaly be reached anyway so i think thats one the problems...
as for getting stuck by roots and trees i dont know... its probably because the games so new, give em a few weeks... months... eh what ever

I always use WASD to move about. Click to move is a bit old school like Baldur's Gate for me, auto run is a good alternative.

Lol, Soti, is there anything you don't complain about?
On topic, I do feel your pain, I usually rather click on a person / xunlai chest / item and have my character auto-run straight to it, because it's easier than WASDing my way around, not that I'm a stranger to that. I have noticed this "inability" for my character to just "go where I goddamn tell her" of late.

If there is nothing wrong with it, there is nothing to say.
If there is something wrong with it, fix it.
If there is something wrong with it and you can't fix it, complain about it.
Since there is a lot in life I'm dissatisfied with and can't fix.... I end up complaining a LOT.
Doesn't mean I stop trying to find solutions myself though; I just complain at the same time in the hopes that something will change, irrespective of cause.
Frankly I don't care if people think I'm a whiny, b!tchy, argumentative twazzock. I don't care what people think of me at all. I just want to get from problem to solution however I can.

I've been having the same problems lately too. Especially with H/H getting stuck...most noticably behind the Eggs in Arachni's Haunt -.-. I had to manually try to move them by flagging them away sometimes the H/H refused to follow flags and get further stuck. I wish they made things like that 'walkthough'-like.
I also have the same problem as kmburton with the 'click for merchant - run into a wall' problem in Rata Sum.

I can't get the search to work
But am sure Gaile said in GW2 they were moving away from mouse walk/run clicks
for botting reasons
and we would have to maneuver everywhere ourselves.
If I could get the stupid search to work I'd find the post by her.
Off to look and see if I can find it manually.
I know it was in a thread talking about the botters targeting the exit signs

Incidentally.... I'm surprised nobody noticed yet that the thread title was a pun. Oh well.... ^_^;;

I think I've made a conclusion about you tonight.
You are either very picky, or a very persistent troll.
It's been said in press releases and whatnot that GW2 will have no click-to-move feature. That doesn't mean you can't click on objects or NPC units to interact with them.
Honestly, the control system for GW2 they have described reminds me a lot of WoW's control system...

I've been wondering about similar problems.
Running into walls all the time in Rata Sum, can't reach NPCs as easily in Gunnar's Hold. If it's intended, must be some anti-bot strategy. In that case, well, I guess we just have to be less lazy... I'll adapt. =__=
Also had a loot drop inside a root in Sparkfly Swamp that I couldn't pick up whatsoever, where anyone (H/H that is - look how Giriff is inside) but me could walk through. Never happened to me before.

In any case... I know it wasn't a dig, but I just felt like mentioning that since lots of people around here have exceedingly low opinions of me. A novelty, but effectively irrelevant.

I save my trolling for Yahoo Answers.
Let's put it this way: I'm an Aspergian Capricorn Perfectionist. I am to "picky" what Absinthe is to "a bit alcoholic".

Still looking for that thread post
But I guess the "NPC click" would be in a limited range
not say from across a town and you auto run ok to the other side.

Strangest thing is there was a locked chest in there with it too. Totally inaccessable.

I had boulder blocking a quest npc that wanted to go right trough it but it just stayed at the boulder so i could start the quest again -.-"
anyway i almost never click and use that to move
i use "R" and the Right mouse button :P

W is forward.
I often RMB, Mouselook and W when generally traversing the landscape... but when it comes to items, I find it a lot easier to just Colon + Space (or Enter) them.... or occasionally Semi-Colon + Space if a pesky chest gets in the way.
.... Those aren't default keys... are they? I seem to recall personally mapping at least one of the item keys since it is a lot easier than trying to click on the damnable things with the mouse or run over to them manually.

Haven't bothered using it in so long that I forgot the key assignment.
Things like that I tend to activate and forget about. Makes being totally in control a little awkward. I'd sooner just stop if I take my finger off the key.

I use WASD for most movement, myself, but yeah, I have noticed pathfinding going way downhill (gotta love the pun ^.^). It never worked quite right for me to begin with, and now it seems that if there isn't a perfectly straight line, it doesn't do anything but get stuck.
Retribution X
I use Point-click and WASD. I use the mouse because of this wonderful thing called the-rubber-band-effect...
And yes, it's getting annoying...
And using the keyboard system may get you counted as a bot. wow. what fun... (IE: ; to pick up loot.)

MouseClick, xxxx, etc
would become
Send, x, etc, etc
'Bots score 1 / Players score 0'
All they need to do to significantly mess up bots is to make the merchants move around like the blob things ( bit slower ). and take that stupid click thing off the signs. After all the gates are big enough to see from a mile away.
The real reason for doing away with mouse movement would probably be because it's not any good mousing in PvP - lol, so it has to go. Yes, I'm a very cynical person.
Bryant Again
I usually use WSAD to move, but I've noticed in Gunder's Hold when I'd click on a merchant, check something for a bit, and I'd be stuck in some building, barely 5 feet from where I started.
But hey, at least we won't have to worry bout this in GW2 since they're gonna git rid of the click movement. : (

SotiCoto, why are there multiple threads with you complaining about the game. Stop. No one cares. And learn to use your wasd. OH NO I HAVE TO CLICK A KEY!
EternalTempest
I chalked the mouse click / pathing + able to see through solid walls with camera angels (more then any other campaign) as a sing that Eotn was a bit rushed and will be worked on. Some pathing works, most don't.

GW2 not supporting mouse-click-walking? Screw that. It's how I move 99% of the time, fingers at the skill buttons. I only use keyboard-movement in intense spots, and there aren't a lot of those. I enjoy clicking on faraway places and rotate the camera around my running party. I don't enjoy continually pressing keys/keeping them pressed. If anything would drive me to say goodbye to the GW franchise, it would be this. Seriously.

The one thing that most of them do not have is the auto-pathing technique.

On topic, I have noticed the pathing in GW:EN is not as developed as previous campaigns, most notably in Gunnar's Hold, and Rata Sum. But then I use arrow keys(well, I never touch the keyboard or mouse, but nevermind that) to move 99.99% of the time, so I barely noticed. I have had to strafe a bit more than usual.

My Sweet Revenga
Yeh. started noticing this pathfinding problem in Factions when I got to House Zu Helter and found that the pathfinding to the armourer guy is pretty bad... always stopped at that little wall. But then one of the updates really messed up the autorun. It used to be that if I hit autorun, if I hit a wall or a ledge at an angle, my char would slow down and just walk along the border. Now I just come to a dead stop. Certainly made wall creeping for cartography a real pain... carpal tunnel anyone?
Now in GWEN, the pathfinding is just plain lazy.

Lazy?!? what? --that would imply that there is some kind of path finding - but there is no path finding... ther should be some kind of ai that can navigate around trees, walls, and rocks. specially in towns...
