Other than for the GW2 lore, it's not so great.

In the GW:EN walkthrough guide, the build they recommend for Pyre has:

Barrage + Read the Wind...

Edit:

Thought I'd also mention that the Pyre build also includes Healing Breeze and Orison of Healing.
Same goes for their Jora build.
I SO hope this information was not written by our anet boys and gals... I am a mega noob ranger (main is sin), and even I know that combo could laugh a pro off their seat =oP Would be funny if it had icons and descriptions is the magazine, cause it would have anyone with an ounce of sense scratching their head =oP

Reading the info on that page... it implies that buying one of the listed magazines only gives you a "chance" at one of those minis.

What does it mean? Each magazines guarantees a mini, but its down to chance as to which one you get? Or you get no mini from buying the magazine, only a chance at winning one? Or what?

It also says there are 7 to "collect"... does that mean we can buy lots of magazines and get more than one mini, to form a collection? Or do they just mean you'll be able to trade for them in-game if you want to collect them (and you are uber rich for the "ultra-rare Vizu")

It's like a lottery you see, when you buy the magazine here in the UK. You may or may not get the pet or if you get one it might not be what you want. So basically it's just a dumb luck, unless you have X-Ray vision.

As for the speical GW PC gamer edition (us & cannada), you're 100% going to get the mini D, if you're willing to part with 10 USD. Or if your local rude boys won't nick it first.

Is this just your interpretation, or have you seen official clarification of this?

Because IF you are right... I am not going to buy overpriced, malfunctional toilet paper (ie. those mags)... when there's a chance I'll get NOTHING from them!

Just a FYI, atleast here where I am, this special magazine isn't wrapped. Anyone can walk into the store and write down the keys from any of the mags. Poor choice of packaging if you ask me.

WHAT!? Well, there goes me getting a copy. I sure as hell won't be buying it if there is a possibility of someone having already written down the code. GG, PCGamer.

Then again, I just thought about it - did you see it in a bookstore? Where I live, most of the bookstores will open a few of them up so people can flip through them, and leave a few wrapped. Then, when the wrapped ones are sold, they're just left with a bunch of open mags.

Yah, at least in Australia it was in a text file on the CD when they did the mini Asuras.

Why write if you just can use camera in phone.

Where i live, such codes are usually on cd cover under scratcher with magazine being wrapped in plastic.

(which reminds me, no asina minis for czechia?)

Mine weren't wrapped either but seeing as I bought it on the 25th - 5 days before it is supposed to come out, no one knew about it.

The store is around my high school though...with 2000 kids....I wonder how many play Guild Wars?

On my way to school today gonna buy 1-2 copies, my very trustworthy friend can input the codes for me

Palawa Joko, lol.

It was hard to take seriously and he controls during GW2 like nearly entire Elona. I assumed that Palawa Joko just made himself sound greater than he was and not real threat.

Meh. After some investigation, it seems:

There will be only 1000 minipets given away with PC Zone in the UK... and I assume it will be the same for PC Gamer. To get a minipet, the magazine you buy has to, by chance, have a "ticket" in it (a bit like Charlie and the Chocolate factory).

A ticket will probably get you a Grawl, or if you're lucky you'll get a rarer minipet (How many of the 1000 will be Vizu? One maybe?)

Those magazines cost 6 quid. That's 6 quid that will stay in my pocket, since if I bought one, I just know there wouldn't be a ticket in it, and the actual contents of those magazines are of no value to me at all.

Good luck to anyone who does buy the magazine though!

Wrong. The magazines in the EU have a lottery for a limited number of pets, 1000 per magazine. The PC Gamer is not a lottery but has a code guaranteeing you a minipet.

10 vizu's. The distribution has been published, read before posting perhaps?

You didnt even need to buy the magazines but they could ask for proof of purchase, there were no 'tickets' in them, you had to go a website and answer a question and fill in your adress. Whether want to play or not is entirely up to you but please dont spread false information.

I don't know about most places in EU, but in the UK the certain number of the magazines (1000) will have the tickets for the pets, the rest will be just normal dvd cover.

@ Woody, since it's a special edition (in the us & canada only), you gonna have to pick one up from the shop.

You have to buy it. This was confirmed by Gaile and by PCGamer.

It's a special issue, and does not count as the 13 issues maile to subscribers (which sort of makes sense, since not all PCGamer subscribers would want a whole issue dedicated to Guild Wars).

At first, I was kinda peeved that subscribers didn't even get a discount, but a good way to look at the magazine is a sort of "Collectors Edition" for GWEN: art book, walkthroughs, mini-pet, and as a sort of gift a preview of GW2.

I started a thread in Lore to debate the GW2 stuff, I'm quite upset at a lot of it.

Please learn to read. I said quite explicitly, that the bit about PC gamer being the same as PC Zone was an assumption, not fact.

Perhaps you spend all your time, reading every thread on every web site, to make sure you don't ever post information that is posted someplace else... but I don't. If I make a gaff, well pfft I don't care. I'll apologise for anything that was incorrect though.

The information I got was by looking at a copy of the current PC Zone, and their own advert for what's coming in the next issue. I didn't see any mention of alternative ways to get a ticket.

You provide no references for your information. Without that, your info is no better than mine. Back up your info, and maybe your holier-than-thou behaviour (euphemism) will be justified.

Yikes!

I just got back from Barnes and Noble. They finally have the magazine in stock. I was shocked to find the mag completely open. Normally mags that have special codes or other stealable stuff are sealed in a plastic bag. Any stupid little kiddie can walk into the store, write down the code and leave.

I bought 2 copies. 1 for me and 1 for a friend. My code worked fine and I'll assume my friend's will work as well. (Yep, I picked the 2 copies at the back of the stack.)

Oh yeah, its not a compromise that Europe gets the 1000 mini sweep stakes and a few lucky players get minis worth 100+250e and every American can get a mini that will sell for ~5k.

WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING!!!!

There is a good chance your Destroyer Mini pet keys are USED!!!

This is NOT ArenaNets fault, its PCGamers fault for not sealing this issue...

Here is the reason I am telling you guys this right now. I just went in to my local Boarders books and picked up the Ultimate Guild Wars Guide, and as I walked up to the Mag isle where they were, I saw 3 teens there with their CELLPhone taking pictures of all the page 97s on the shelf... I'm sure to go back home and resell them on auction systems or in game...

Being that I was about to buy one of these things and was unsure if these little pricks took a picture of it or not, I was Pissed so I confiscated their phone and got the manager to throw them out of the store after showing him what they were doing... The phone was returned to them naturally AFTER we Formated their SIM card. I was tempted to throw the god dam thing against the wall, but it got me thinking how many of these things are going to be stolen.. I am betting more then a fair majority... and these things are suppose to stay on the shelves till Christmas?

This is not a good thing folks... I will be seriously complaining to PCGamer for their serious lack of judgment on releasing a mag with a CD key that is not sealed.

If you are one of the unlucky saps that gets this problem. I'm sure there will be several... Contact PCGamer ASAP and notify them of this issue with your key... at : [email protected]
I am hoping this will be a way to get the thieves Banned via PcGamer and Anet coop in some way...

Sorry Sauce and Raven I didnt see your posts till after I came home... I was so pissed off at the situation I just saw I had to make sure people on Guru got the heads up... If its happening here in Alaska you can be dam sure its happening in the bigger cities as we speak...

I'm still fuming over it... its gonna bug me now every time I see one appear on an auction site or WTS that they are probably stolen items from some poor sap that bought the magazine in good faith... I am SERIOUSLY shocked that PCGamer would be that stupid to ship that mag in this way...

Do ArenaNet/PCGamer has a checking system to see which account has ur mini destroyer pet? Those kids may be banned coz of this. Transfer the stolen pet to the customer (who has a paid bill)

I don't understand how PCGamer could be so stupid as to drop the ball after 3 successive minipet mags with paper sleeves. I'm going to be warning my local borders that I'll be coming back for a replacement if mine ends up used.

My local Borders just received their shipment this afternoon, and I immediately had them set asside 2 copies which I'll be picking up later. Just to be safe, I'll have my wife read me the keys just before making the final purchase, just to make sure that the keys have not already been used/stolen. Each of these PC Gamer copies costs $10, so I'm making absolutely sure some punk hasn't already ripped off my product key.

EDIT: Both keys checked out good. Happy camper here.

This is awesome. Now one can only hope the damages are limited by restricting pets to one key per account, although that is still a major problem.

Time to go play the lottery and get a mag myself. Looking forward to the GW2 preview at least. Will be very disappointed if my pet is in use.

You know, it's weird, months ago for the last PC gamer that had a minipet code I kept seeing all these reports of only unwrapped PC gamer magazines for sale and many people reported that the code inside ending up being used already when they got home, so I was sure when I bought PC gamer (wanted to at least read it) my mini asura code would have been stolen and used. I couldn't even find PC gamer anywhere because they were all sold out. Some little coffee shop I go to sometimes that happens to have magazines finally got that PC gamer issue with the mini asura code like almost 2 months later and, to my surprise, the magazine was wrapped in plastic like you would expect it to be since it contained a prize in it.

If people are finding all these unwrapped PC gamer magazines in every store, the retailers are probably unwrapping them because they don't know any better, or douche employees are unwrapping them and copying the codes because their bosses don't know what's in the magazine, or douche customers are unwrapping them and stealing the codes and nobody in the store is smart enough to figure out why and stop people from doing it. Do what lord_shar did, call a store first and ask if the magazines come wrapped in plastic and have them hold a copy for you, or just find a store that is less likely to be pillaged by thieves and there should be a nice plastic-wrapped magazine waiting for you

Anyways, it would probably be a good idea for PC gamer to put a notice for the retailers in with their magazine shipments notifying the retailers that this month's magazine contains a prize code and the magazines should not be unwrapped in any circumstance and that they should watch for people unwraping the magazines to steal the prize code printed inside. That should cut down on the problem a bit. It's too late now but next time they have prize codes they should totally do it.

Nope - they arrived at the store unwrapped. I got mine at Borders today. I got there just as they were putting them on the shelves. They hadn't even opened the shipping box yet but the stocker was kind enough to check the invoices and find the box they were in and dig them out for me. So I knew my codes would work - but they were shipped unwrapped - big mistake for pcgamer.

Also, they usually get a dozen or so copies but they only received 3 of this issue - I bought 2 - so it looks like this might be a limited printing.

In any case, it is not the store's fault they are unwrapped but for any store managers out there, it might be wise to put them behind the counter and then put up a sign that they are only available on request to prevent code stealing.
