40 armor sets

So basically, you point boils down to "What if you were a rich dumbass who only considered one factor when making product purchases?" I'm sure said dumbass would feel ripped off, but it's his own fault for buying a vehicle on shoddy pretenses.

Like I said at the end of my last post, people need to start taking product descriptions with a grain of salt. The company in question will always try to put the best face on its own work: it's only natural that they'd want to put their best foot forward in an attempt to sell more units. This is a no-brainer to anyone who knows the first thing about marketing. I'll grant that we had no particular reason to be worried about reskins in advance (I certainly didn't expect the new armors to be reskins), but, again, a plethora of resources (wiki, this forum, the other wiki) exist for us to examine the game closely before we actually buy it. The most powerful information collecting service in human history is at your fingertips right now-- it might be wise to start using it. I've bought all the GW expansion as a matter of course because I like the game and want new skills, but I always check out the armors on wiki before deciding which one(s) I'll end up going for.

Well seeing how everyone has put their two sense in I think I will too. Do note when I say everyone I am exagerating a bit, I merely mean a large number of people have.

First off on the pre-order box, and the box I bought it says qoute "Heroes, Skills and armor! Get new gear. skills and companions for all you favorite characters! 10 new Heroes, 150 new skills and 40 new armor sets"

Do note on the box people actually purchased it does not say anything about standalone sets, for some reason this was amended after people bought the game as it says on their site ("40 new armor sets including rare-standalone peices")

Therefor, it seems that it is a bit of false advertising as on the hardcopy of the box (the one which so many of us hold in are hands) it says nothing about these stand-alone peices. I also have a feeling at the time people bought the game online this phrase was not added either (same for preorder). In that aspect it is false advertising. However, they did later amend it online. It is kind of like buying a product from a company which they claim will take has "12 rotating lights lights" after buying it you notice it only has 8 rotating lights and several stationary. You go on their website after buying the product a week or so later and see they have amended it to "12 rotating lights including rare stationary ones!" Too me this is shabby advertising. Also, what exactly makes a set? A set (according to mathematical Set Notation) can contian anywhere from Null, 0, to infinity elements. Perhaps these armor sets we are not seeing are those which contain 0 armors, or perhaps each peice of armor is considered a "set " to itself. Additionally, Anet can pretty much advertise anything they want and hide behind the following phrase which is also located on the box "Game Experience May Change During Online Play" there you have it, the missing sets are in the offline play.

As someone said earlier you have to do your research before buying things these days. At least it is better than X:3 Reunion, man that was some craptacular software, heck you should get a diploma if you can even get it to run. Pity that Anet had to play this word game with their customers, I used to buy their products without researching because, well they delivered a quality product which lived up to the hype they put out. However, we should of saw this comming, with what we got with nightfall. Remember the big thing about DoA not being their and Anet denying that it was not included in the game yet (along with the trend for more and more grind).

Anyway, in summery:
1) Companies can advertise whatever they want and amend it after the release of the software to fit the actual results along with releasing "unfinished" software which tends to be the main trend these days.
2) What exactly makes a "set". Could not each peice of the dwarven armor count as a singular set this would probably more than compensate (along with all the standalone gloves) for the 40 sets.
3)We as consumers need to do our research. Heck this is the main reason I have not bought a PC game in over 2 years besides the obvious Guild Wars. Most the games released have had major flaws which made them in my opinion unplayable. This should of been the same way.

So the final word, Anet may or may not be lieing, or false advertising, all depending on how you interperate the words, or for that matter which set of words.

I do not feel I have enough confirmation on which armor sets will actually be displayed in the Hall of Monuments and which ones will not and I do not want to waste my gold.

I plan to mix and match my armor until the day comes next year when I have to buy the rest of the set. But for now I don’t want to make any mistakes and waste my money by buying something that will not be accepted when there is an actual counterpart which will be accepted later on.

For example, I like all of my characters to wear skirts, save a couple of ‘tomboy’ characters I have. I want to get a skirt for my assassin, but if I want the particular skirt model that was made for the Dwarven armor buying it would be a mistake, right? Dwarven armor will NOT be accepted into the HoM (which is ridiculous, IMO). So instead, I should buy the skirt from the Elite Cantha armor because after all, it looks pretty much the same, except that it counts for something later on.

There may be other exceptions that are like the Dwarven armor but I am not sure what they might be, or if my list is complete and correct.

I searched this forum and could not find a complete list. I went to Guildwiki and found a list of Elite armor. So, I am going to post here, what I believe will be all of the armor sets that are currently accepted into the HoM and would appreciate someone correcting me in areas that I am wrong or armor that should be on this list but are not and vice versa.

Added question: If my character is wearing expensive armor from head to toe in any combo of the above armor, it is still an acheivement, isn’t it (this includes the expensive Dwarven armor)?

Why does something have to be a set to be counted as an achievement if it still costs the same amount of time and money (in some cases even more) to get? I don’t like all of the pieces of a single set. I like to mix and match. I am used to playing RPGs that involve lots of personal customization, especially with clothing. Why can’t players be given a little bit more control in this area so that they might be able to express thier creativity?

I would like to place my armor in the HoM, but honestly, if I already buy a full 15 k outfit for my character, will I be able to afford to purchase three more 15k pieces that will forever remain in my storage box, just so that my armor can have a spot in the HoM?

My decided strategy to solve this issue: For now I am going to choose creativity over the HoM because that’s where my gaming pleasue comes from. I will postpone my purchase of GW2 until I see what I get for a full set of armor. If it is something really good, then I will further postpone my purchase of GW2 until I have grinded all of my characters into their Elite armor. If the reward is so-so, then I will go ahead and purchase GW2 immediately and not worry about the lack of Elite armor. This is a logical way to deal with the armor issue to me.

Example: Both Templar and Elite Gladiator are crafted by by Karl in Marhan's Grotto. Can we only display one?

You can display both, so there are two armors missing in this list: 2nd Marhan's Grotto and 2nd Granite Citadel

iirc, the sets from the Citadel and Grotto are given two different names (Exclusive, and I forget the other one) in the HoM...

Alright so you bypass the question and instead move to insult the intelligence of the buyer. So you're then saying that those of us who bought GWEN for what we were told it would have are dumbasses? I think it would be dumb to buy something expecting MORE than what one was told it would have...which is what you're alluding to.

Stop skirting the issue. We were told one thing, and we got another. Period.

Ok, I know there is debate and questions about what constitutes the 40 armor sets, but lets simplify things a little.

10 classes
Asura = 10 armor sets
Norn = 10 armor sets
Vanguard (Monument) = 10 sets
Dwarf = 10 sets

I know, the Dwarven armor is not considered a set by the HoM, but lets call it a set, as that appears to be where the 40 sets got its number from. Now, if we use the info posted on the box, there is 40 armor sets, not 'including unique pieces'. So we actually came out ahead.

How did we get more than what they said on the box?

Granted, NONE of those (except the Silver Eagle) are more than 1 piece of armor. But they are not included in the 40 sets number in any way.

The only thing people can complain about, is not having a 4th type of new armor available to add to the HoM for a given character (except Warrior with Silver Eagle). Since we don't even know what benefit having armor sets in the HoM will offer us for GW2, we may have NO complaint. If you simply want the armor to be put in the HoM for ascetics, deal with it. How many people actually show their HoM to other people anyway?

I can, and will complain about reskins. I like some of the new armor, but most of it is almost identical to things I already have, or can get. But to complain about there not being 40 sets seems silly to me, as we easily have more armor available than what was listed.

Umm... that's because the Eye of the North forum was dissolved a few weeks after the game went live and was merged with Riverside (just like the GW Factions and NF subforums where eventually removed).

Yeah I agree it's misleading advertising, but everyone uses misleading advertising to some extent. I'm more confused by the idea that the dwarven armor should be all stand-alone pieces. When those pieces often don't match any other dwarven armor or any other armor set. And when there's no way of previewing the results of mixing and matching before you buy the pieces... What were they thinking?

I don't mind the reskins, though. I really like my rit's asura and vanguard armors. Many of the reskins may be mediocre but some of them do look better than the originals.

Most of which requires spending an arm and a leg or hours upon hours of grinding to obtain. Yeah, no thanks.

then reskin the originals and give us new meshes in GWEN. Norn be damned. This is just lazy commercialism.

Them are some of the good reskins, some of them are just horribad.

After looking back through them, I have realized that they have grown on me. There is very few bad sets, aside from Dwarven Armor, which uses a flawed logic. Make a set that doesn't match itself, and claim it is for mix matching, however, it does not match any other sets either.

All armor in GW:EN requires grinding for the rep rank. The only thing that is harder/more expensive is the collectibles like the Dread Mask. If expense is your problem, don't get anything other than Droks/Kaineng/Docks armor. And outside of a small number of GW:EN armor sets/pieces, you have armor from other games that is harder to get. Obsidian, Vabbian, and some Prophecies sets, not to mention the money or time spent acquiring 80 Jadeite/Amber in Factions.

Tell me how making armor that is hard to get any different than it was in the other games.

15k armor in proph was easy to get. Both of the crafters were in towns pretty close to major missions and didn't really require much more than the occasional rare crafting material. You didn't have to save up for everything THEN grind for points just to be able to get it. Same for factions and nightfall. Getting there was hard, getting the materials was hard but you could buy all of that. You can't buy faction points, you need to GRIND them. It's that simple.

I'm confused....you grind for gold to buy the materials. What's the difference? Unless you bought the gold with real cash, and can't buy the rep points with cash?

No, he means:
Eotn is gather material ---> grind heck a lot for pts----> 15K armor
Prophecies is gather materials ---> 15K armor

much less grinding needed.

All I can say is the Dwarven Armor should have had a warning label on it BEFORE purchase saying it isn't a set therefor not displayable. I know SEVERAL people that wouldn't have spent the time or effort on getting it.

That "grind a heck a lot for pts" you mention can be done by just playing the storyline and taking bounties as you go. You can also pay to have you're handbook and dungeond guide filled atleast once and the reward for both books has been increased staggeringly.

There really is no excuse to say reaching rank 5 for armor and weapons takes "a heck a lot"! Not to mention that Drawf points alone are really easy to make!

So will atleast be able to purcashe one armor set very easily!
