Eye Of The North 29.99 Best Buy
Punches
Haha, I thought it was 29.99 in the online store to begin with. Doesn't matter. I wanted the game so I put in my CC# with my eyes closed so that I'd have no idea what I was paying for it. And you know what? I don't regret it

I wouldn't mind a free character slot if they do decide to lower the price in the in-game store soon. It would be much like the rebates Apple offered iPhone buyers. They'd still have our money, and it would be hard for us (the community upset about the price/price drops) to complain about it, since we are getting a character slot worth the difference. Remember, the rebate Apple offered was only a "credit" for their store, if I heard the news correctly.

Well at play.com we could order it for less than 30 Euro as a pre order....yes, before the game was out that price was already out there.
I got it through the online store because I wanted it when the game came out and I wanted the mission pack for november.
Don't start about how much 30 Euro's is in dollars because the in store price is 39.95 in Euro's for us aswell so the same still applies.

Not a surprise to me that the game is already in the bargain bin less than one month after release.
1. Anet undercut its retail partners by offering bonus content to people who bought directly from Anet.
2. At $39.99 the Anet GWEN version is actually the cheapest version, since there is no state or local tax to bother with.
3. Nightfall sold very poorly after the first week. The people who bought Nightfall pre-ordered it, and nobody else bothered to buy it. 4 weeks after release, Nightfall dropped to $19.99 as retailers dropped prices to cut excess inventory. Guild wars doesnt appeal to the overall gaming public and hasnt since Factions, and GWEN, requiring a campaign to play, is an even more limited product.
4. Anet never appeared to have much confidence in GWEN as a product. Anet trashed Guild Wars' negatives (and by expension trashed those negatives that GWEN wouldnt address) when GWEN was announced. By this point Anet was more obviously interested in selling GW 2 than GWEN.
5. Related to point #4, Anet never promoted GWEN's few new features.. and the main sales pitch for GWEN was "Buy GWEN so you can get a Hall of monuments which will do something in 2 years and after you pay us another $60, but we are not saying what that is." this strikes me as an awfully weak sales pitch.
Regardless of the 5 points above, and regardless of the excess copies of GWEN currently unsold by Anets business partners GWEN probably sold decently and was probably profitable given its development budget. As a last pump and dump attempt to bilk players before the new game, GWEN probably filled its purpose well.

I was hoping a -10$ price drop for NF or faction. I need an extra account so badly ><

One difference is that Apple customers had information there would be a price drop, eventually, but just not this early. They were misled as to when, and lost the value of being an early adopter.
We on the other hand had no information given to us of a price drop - Anet didn't drop a ball if it never held one up to begin with.
It may seem slimy, but we had no expectation of a benefit in being early adopters, so we can't complain when such a benefit is lost so early.
Keep in mind as well that the woman in the Apple suit has not yet (if ever) won her suit. My logic here is merely based on a hypo of 'casting the facts of her case in the light most favorable to the plaintiff.' And even casting the facts in a light and law most to her favor, her example does not fit for a price drop of GW:EN, even if I cast the facts for Anet in a light most negative to them, it still doesn't fit them.
Also, we don't really know Anet is behind a Best Buy price drop. We can assume, but do we know? It may just be a Best Buy decision due to lack of sufficient sales. Despite consumer perceptions that companies set pricing, the reality is that retailers have the legal right to set pricing, within certain limits or contracts they may sign. If you check labels and legal info for products with sticker prices, you will often find a warning that the sticker price is not a guaranteed price and that the retailer can indeed adjust it up or down.
- That might vary by jurisdiction, so its just a general principle. And again, some manufacturers might get contracts to sell at a certain price, which might be legal in one state, but illegal to make such a contract in another state.

Dude you don't expect price drops to happen? It's just part of business in time there is less demand so the price goes down. You just had to buy it the first day it came out, so you'll pay another ten dollars. The average player who will wait a few months till christmas will save a few bucks.
Btw I'm buying EotN at Christmas I'll save 50% or more on it. Besides I still have to finish up with Nf, factions, and prophecies.

I'm glad they dropped the price, even though I already have it. More players FTW.

Um, if people don't like the game nor care about it, it can sell for $1 and no one would buy it.
I bought the game because I liked it. Tons of people hate it. Not because of price, but because of the game itself.
If I didn't like the preview weekend, I wouldn't buy the game if it was a penny.

I fully expected a price drop of $10, I also assumed that if/when the bous pack went on sale it would be around $10.
This just meets my expectaions, just not this soon.

Lol @ whoever said this was in the "bargain bin".
$30 bucks is not a bargain...

I payed full price online, still having a blast, and will get the free bonus pack in less than a month.
Anyone waiting for a retailers sale is missing out on a helluva lot imo.

There is absolutely nothing unusual for the price of an item, be it a game, movie, or whatever, to drop within a month or two of release.
I know with regards to most games, with a few exceptions such as gw, I always wait a couple of months, BECAUSE the price will tend to drop. There have only been a few cases where the price hasn't dropped or at least not dropped significantly. Last I looked, they are STILL charging $39.99 in most stores for the D2 and Starcraft Battlechests. Other items like DVD's tend to plummet after a couple months. I don't know how many times I've purchased a movie for $20 the day it comes out, only to have it be like $13 or less a month later. It's irritating to be sure, but it's not the manufacturers' faults and I certainly never would expect the studio, or even the retailer to give me a refund because of a price cut.
The price of GW:EN dropping is far from unusual. There is no big conspiracy to rip off early customers. It's just typical business practices by the retailers.
Besides that, you only got ripped off if for some reason you feel you didn't get your money's worth. Personally I feel I got more than enough out of GW:EN to justify what I paid for my two copies. Being "ripped off" and having Buyer's Remorse are two completely different things.

Actually if you follow that link Eye of the North is listed at $ 39.99 and not what was stated at the beginning of this thread.

I wonder about people who spend huge amounts of time playing a game and/or posting on forums about it, who then quibble over a measly $10-$20 (when their entertainment is spread out over hundreds or sometimes thousands of hours). If your resulting complaint is that the game is too expensive, you should really consider what that means your time is actually worth.

^^ pwned and ya i agree it seems that only the devoted fans complain

All it means is to wait 2 or 3 months after release to get GW2. Price will be lower, and you can read forums and see if it's even worth getting.
