Yay optimism! :P

If GW2 bombs, I don't think it will be for those reasons. The developers have explained that they have a lot of ideas that they found necessary to start a new game for.
But I'm thinking it may not do so well if people are so attached to GW1. A majority of gamers may want to continue playing GW1 and want to see more material, updates, and support for it.

I am 80% sure of that. Guild Wars 2 is going to be a monumental failure... as everyone is going to have hyped up ideas of what it should be and how everything can be improved..... and yet it is going to live up to nobody's expectations, and everyone is going to see aspects of it that are worse than the original..... and it will all be downhill from there. A lot of player-base WILL be lost.... and A-Net will either have to keep the original alive in order to keep their feet on the ground..... or everything will collapse. |

I don't get why people are so darn pescimissic about GW2.
Arenanet has made a great game their first time around. Unlike most MMOs, or online games, there are no complaints about something being totally unbalenced, or that Arenanet does not care. The game is very level compared to others. If there's a bug, it's fixed, if there's an imbalence, it's fixed. End of story. Aside from minor graphical errors and some people that think the sky is falling because everything is slowly dropping in price, as it does in all MMOs, the game is very good content for no monthly fee, with a good environment, catering to all levels of play, and with good solid storylines and player interaction.
They now have experience from this. What makes you think GW2 will be horrid? It may not cater to your fantasy of what the perfect game should be, but that doesn't mean it will be a flop.
I think Guild Wars 2 will be a monument on the road of MMO's forever. I'll be buying it.

heh, all you "they will never close the GW servers they are awesome" you make me laugh, just look at what NCsoft did to autoassault, as soon as it wasn't making them a positive cash flow, slit, there went its throat. wam bam, thanks for your cash. they will close the servers as soon as they can, with GW 2 out no one will buy GW1, so that means, negative cash flow keeping the servers running. wave bye bye to that char.

I hope they do throw a big party the week before release....
@flyinhigh: there's a big difference between killing a game that is costing you money from the very beginning, has a tiny community, and is pretty much a failure right from the get-go, vs killing a game that is the basis of a sequel that you want to do well.

@ Count to Potato: I can't fully comprehend what you said, but it sounded optimistic....
Oh and I know i'm 2 years early, but truly, if we think of enough ideas now we'll have time to cultivate and improve them for Anet. Kinda like a thank you present for GW1 and GW2.

@MMSDome
We're not bitching about the end, we want to make it more enjoyable to make the passing smoother. It gives the guys that aren't the interested in farming, or FFFing, or w/e something to look forward to.
