Single or multiple main characters
the_jos
I have played every profession, but currently stick to two main characters.
First is my Mesmer, which is my primary.
Second is my Monk, which is almost only used in guild groups when they need a monk.
The reason is that both professions are relatively close together as far as play style is concerned.
Both need to consider the type of enemy and counters against their skills more than most other professions.
Both depend a lot on playstyle and build of the team to be as effective as possible.
And both need tactical usage of skills.
Only the monk is mainly at the defensive side and Mesmer can be both on offensive and defensive side.
As monk, I run a hybrid-prot most of the time.
My mesmer build depends on the environment and team, but is raw damage (Domination) or weaken (Illusions).
I hardly ever use pure caster shutdown anymore (BHA or hero does that better most of the time, specially in Hard Mode).
The rest of my characters are available upon guild request.

I have one of each profession except 'sin. I decided not to get one of those because I didn't have enough slots. I made the decision based on the fact that I didn't like their outfits. :P
I have two that are generally my main chars. A monk, the first char I made upon getting proph way back when, and a dervish, which I created at that nightfall prerelease thing. I do have to say though that the dervish has become a little more "main" than my monk, mostly because I decided I like the slice and dice.

my main char is my ranger...title hunter PKM etc. over 1000h of play time on him!
switch to a PvP ranger for AB etc...casual fun!
leg. survivor para (no FFF / HFF / jade farming) char for when I'm bored and want to sod around...
prefer just one profession rather then 1 main char IMO

I heavilly prefer my Monk over all of my other characters, but there others that I play.
After my monk, my warrior, two rangers, and elementalist take priority. My other characters only see occasionally play. Most of the time I just dump appropiate hand-me-downs onto them.

i have one main character wich i play 95% of the time (my ele), another one that is my second character that i used it alot to play but i got boring of it so i dont use it that much now just for some farming (my rit), 2 storage characters and another one that i have totally forgotten and never do anything with, but it will probably be my 3rd storage char.
dark_prince2023
I have 1 main and like 8 others one of wich is a mule and 2 I have for pre. My main is mostly though all campains and there to get things for my other charicters (but mostly I just go to low lvl areas like the wall and kill char cause it makes me feel better and releaves stress). My muel is mostly there to well hold things and salvage.

Multiples. I like switching it up a bit...every time I do something new I like to get all my characters in there to do the same thing, but in a different capacity.
What sucks is I can't get my Warrior into a slaver's exile group because she's not an obby tank,

I have one of each class. However I tend to play only one character when I'm working on titles. Pointless to get the same title for every character imo.

3 +1 pve chars,
My main is my Necro/W ; meaning he's the title hunter.
My prestige class is my W/E ; meaning she has all the best equipment, fow armor, IDSs, Perfect golds, greens lots of 15k armor sets. Basically all the prestige u can think of.
My 3rd is my Ritualist, my trailblazer; meaning I like to push her to extremes, such as going from beacons to droknar solo killing everything on the way.
+1 is a noob ele (lvl 9): I'm not sure what I'll do with him atm, he was supposed to be the bearer of the hourglass staff but I'm sick of going thru campaigns so he just sits there in yaks bend. But it would've been a paragon instead of this ele if I had nightfall.
It's kinda tough having a main and a prestige seperately cuz I feel like I should keep this balance between em, not to put too much emphasis on prestige n up the experience of my necro.

A single MAIN character???
Dont have one of them-----I have 15 that I play, one of them is in pre-searing probably permanently.
Otherwise I have 14 I play with regularly. Some have titles, others are working on them. I do have one that is KoBD and another that needs 2 more to get that level. I dont favor any of my kids, I like to play them all (its just the maternal instinct I guess ).
I recently started a warrior since I finally liked the armor for one of them....so now she has something to work towards.
When I started chapter 1 I had 4 characters, they have finished all of tyria and cantha (one is still working thru nf) ...and then I started another tyrian monk after the april fools trick on my male one (made a very cute lady he did ) so now I have 5 tyrians--not counting the presear ele.
When chapter 2 came out I had my rit and she has also finished all of the 3 chapters (still working on titan and sf quests), and I had a ranger mule---she is now level 20 as well and working for some nf armor (yeah armor seems to be my goal for my characters to get their butts moving). I made 3 more canthans and they have been working thru the chapters (one other has finished 1 & 2 and just needs gate of madness and abadon for nf---she almost has protector of them all as well, one or two pesky missions keeping her from that title). So I have 5 canthans as well.
Then came nightfall....I made my prerequisite paragon...and another ele (liked the hair styles and colors better in nf). Since then I have made the warrior mentioned before and another mesmer (have one from each chapter now) for a total of 4 elonians.
They are all special in different ways: my elonian ele has survivor 1 and is working on level 2, my male rit did the tyrias most wanted male contest, my male monk has the KoBD title and is working on wisdom (as we get golds he id's them all---it will take some time to max that one!), each of my mesmers has a speciality-domination, illusion or inspiration and they dont change them. etc....some of my toons like to be armor hogs, or title mongers, others are happy to just get finished with the chapter.
Yes my characters have, character, they are not just something to pass the time killing off mobs with...otherwise they would NOT have given us the options to make different ones, there would have been only 1 choice per class (or just 1 total and we would all look alike ) so customized mine are! And not one of them I would consider my MAIN character (moms dont pick favorites, or so I am told )
And I get bored playing one character for too many hours....need change of pace and such. They might not all get to eton since I find it really boring, so unless they want some armor or quick xp they arent visiting that place.

Seeing that many titles don't cross accounts, heroes don't cross accounts, and the title grinds don't cross accounts, GW has basically forced you to play one character. Finishing multiple campaigns requires you grinding some title or going through the same repetitive quests where you can't get run to the next quest. If you want to get specific armor from EotN, you have to grind, so that doesn't seem much fun when you need to do it for multiple characters. HoM is only per character, not per account, so it is easier just to grind out the titles on that one single character. It'd be nice to have multiple characters, but with hero equipping, title restrictions, and just the time to get through, it doesn't seem worth it to play more than two characters.
mr_groovy
got a title hunter warrior 7 titles LC.
Then a ranger, monk, and ele who completed all campaigns.
Last Paragon, Dervish, Necro and Rit who completed 1 campaign or less.
Playing different chars keeps Gw fresh at times, insight in to mixing builds, excellent builds for hero's, and lot's of variety in farming.^^

i only have 2 mains a rit and monk my other 9 characters is storage char or PVP
blackknight1337
My has been my monk since she was created less than 6 months ago. Had never tried a monk before, barely played anything else since. I have a few other level 20's for farming and such, but 95% of the time they are used as mules.
Because my monk is my main she gets tremendously spoiled (weapons, armor, titles etc) and therefore takes a couple mules just for her stuff, add to that stuff that i'm selling off, that fills most of the rest up, so not a whole lot of space.
Kicking around the idea of getting a rit or dervish leveled up, but i just don't have the time to get them through the campaigns, so probably wont be happening soon.
School ftl as far as GW is concerned lol

placebo overdose
ive destroyed many of my chars 2 which had 15k armor just cause i did not like them anymore i have had trouble making new chars recently but im working on a parra and my rit(1 month old) has 3 15k sets so im content

Excluding pvp characters, I used to play (and have finished all 3 campaigns with) 5 pve characters. Since GWEN, I can't find myself playing with anything but my main character. The title grind, boring as, but better one r10 character with a good HoM than 5 r2-5 characters with bleh HoMs.

My Dervish is not only my main PvE char.. but my only one!
I got sick and tired of repeating PvE on different chars over and over... doing that same quest again and again.. getting those titles again and again (yes, i have to get the titles...).
When loot scaling hit it was pretty much decided. I want all the fancy things and i couldn't afford to do it for 2 or more chars.
One and only ftw

Since Nightfall and EotN have brought about the ability to own PvE, and also the end of GW1. I figured it was time to at least take one of my characters through all 3 chapters to completion.
Although fun, my playtime has been erratic. In stead of concentrating on the game itself, I got caught up being a runner and farmer. So I have two accounts and alot of slots going to waste (Multiple accounts were the way to go before ANET started selling them, lol.)
So now that I don't have to worry about when a new chapter is going to drop I'm sitting back and actually playing now just for fun (Yes, a novel concept indeed). So I decided to give my warrior all my time for now. Although I feel bad for my Necro and Ranger, lol.
Sometimes I just feel like giving my second acct. away, but am scared that whoever got it would do something bad with it and my main would get banned too. So it just sits collecting dust for storage.

At the moment my elementalist is my main.. I think I might make my necro my main from now on.. sigh 1000hours of title grind wasted because I am getting tired of ele's
Azalyn
I have 2 rangers and 2 elementalists, a warrior and a paragon. I need to get rid of a few but they are close to their birthdays so I am going to wait. My one ranger is my main character though. I could never, ever get rid of her. She is the one I go for titles with.
Crom The Pale
I currently have 9 lvl 20 pve toons.
Crom is my main toon and the only one I play for titles. When the grind gets too boring I switch up to another char for a few days or so just to change things up.
Going from a war to a mesmer or ranger or rit, ect can really shake things up as the play style is so very diffent. I generally take a few rune to get the feel of the class and to break a few habbits that work great for my armor heavy war but tend to be suicidle for my casters.
Basically I've reached a nicely balanced ratio that works for me.
4:1
For every 4K I spend on Crom I'll spend 1K on one other char. That lets me equip all of my chars with max armor and some runes for there heros while I load Crom up with the good stuff and fully equip all of his heros.
Time spent playing is the same, for every 4hours on Crom I've 1hour on another char, though I never actually set a clock to my playing time it does seam to work out that way.

Gah, multiple...
13 characters - 1 pvp, 2 low lvl storage.
Of the remaining I've five that I play more often (generally) than the rest:
Rit, Mes, Monk, Ele, Ranger.
My necro and paragon are going for survivor so I don't touch them much :S as I'm afraid I'll loose it
My dervish sits around waiting for whenever my sister wants to play her dervish.
And I've a new NF mesmer who is also going for survivor - had a couple of close calls already too :S So I only play her when the lag isn't too bad.
Hmm, that's only 9... Oh my warrior, I've a lvl10 warrior sitting at Ranik I think. Survivor would be nice on her too, but mostly she is sitting there because I just don't play warrior well, or frequently.

I have got 3 characters I play very often. My main, my warrior Dinesh Ajith, was the first class I played in Guild Wars. In a new unfamiliar game, bashing someone with a hammer seems the easiest alternative. Now after finishing all 3 campaigns with my Warrior. I wanted to try out being a minion master, so I made a Necromancer, Doinchi Of The Dead. Tried out minion mastery, wasn't too fond of it, so I turned to SSing. Which is fun. Then, I succumbed to making a Assasin. There is something awesome about being a ninja. To deal with the "Assasins die easily" stereotype, I made sure I got Survivor on my sin. Which was pretty easy.
Problem is, ive got such a short attention span, my Sin is only 90% through NF and my Necro is only 20% Through NF. I wanna get em through all campaigns.

Lately I've been playing my warrior and el for the most part.
Linksys
I just have one main character, a ranger. It's all I have time for. I have two submain characters, a monk and a mesmer.
Yawgmoth
The current system strongly encourages having just one 'main' character and provides close to no support to those who want to play more than one.
For over 2 years I've had 2 'main' characters (and some lesser ones). Now GW:EN's biggest failure - the HoM, forces me to abandon one of them and introduces even more mechanics rewarding doing absurd things and extreme repeated grind if I want the other character to keep up.
HoM should have obviously been account-based, so that any of your characters could contribute something to it. I would gladly fill up all the monuments if it didn't require doing it for just one character -- one is never going to actually use all the armor sets (13+ sets for one char, including ones that look terrible for that specific character) or all destroyer weapons possible... being able to spread them out among a few chars would be fantastic awesome. Same with titles - my 28 months old 'main' never had a chance to become a Survivor or Legendary defender of Ascalon - current system makes me have to reduce her to a mule, forget the thousands of hours spent and start a new one and repeat every damn thing again, if I want the momunemt among all the others. Absurd.

My mesmer is my main charcter in my heart (my first character,) but my necro became my main out of necessity. People would ask me for help and I'd offer on my mesmer and they'd give me the "Oh... do you have anything else...?" thing.

I have 2 accounts with one of each profession per account. I don't have a 'main' character per say because I'll play 3 or 4 (or more) characters a day. Depends on what I feel like or if I'm helping someone, what they need. Being in a small guild, having an array of characters to choose from when someone needs help is handy, besides that I simply enjoy playing all the professions. I don't really 'title' hunt on any particular character so I guess that adds to not focusing solely on one main char. I cap skills and progress titles on each a little at a time. *shrug*
Esan
I have two mains named Main Droite and Main Gauche.
