Pros: PvP can be fun (RA and AB, to a limited extent TA)
Free to Play
PvE is fun with the addition of HM and elite areas
Variety of armor/weapons
Cons: PvP doesn't even compare to Eve-Online
Economy is lackluster at best (especially compared to Eve)
New professions aren't fully fleshed out and suffer from a limited variety of skills
Heroes/Henches have effectively killed social gaming for GW
The section of the player base that is too "l33t" to enjoy playing with other people
The section of the player base that is unwilling to take friendly advice
Loot scaling
The new armor in GW:EN
You can't get into HA without rank. You can't get rank without playing HA...

Not sure if you think in the way of World Bosses, but believe me those are not a good idea. Just ask the EQ players or WoW players about it.

Its more a matter of their eliteness, greed and selfishness.
Sorry if I offend anyone with that statement, but that is how I see some posters advertising their "give me 7 heroes deal".
Spike
Pros
Free to play
Lots to do and see
H/H so you don't HAVE to group if you don't want to. Which is good if you want to go off and explore.
Mini pets
Lots of different armour
Instances
Cons
The contant moaning of pvpers which result in constant nerfs to PVE. If they want to nerf pvp to hell and back I could'nt give a damn but why do they do nerf PVE as well. Its not like anet does'nt know when your in pvp or not.
pvpers who think thier the most important group of people in the game. When in fact thier the least.
Loot scaling.
pvp.
Btw mangus1 the pvp in eve is nothing but a gank fest and requires NO skill what so ever. Its IMPOSSABLE to catch up with anyone who started before you as the skills are real time based. So if someone started playing a year before you he will have a years worth more of skills and you will NEVER be able to catch up. If you thought there where a lot of farmers in GW its nothing compared to eve and ccp (who run eve) do NOTHING to stop it and even encourage it. So the economy is even more scrwed that GW's

The whole "no monthly fee".
In NO way is that a positive thing. It's the minimum. IF the game wasn't free to play - I wouldn't even consider it.
So to list it under "pros" is sending out the wrong message. This doesn't make the game better. This is what makes a product something that I even consider.
The real Pro and Contra list:
1. Pro:
- Mesmer class and it's (mostly non-damaging) skills
- Necromancer class and it's (mostly non-damaging) skills
- Looks really good
- It's update system
2. Contra:
- Unbalanced PvE - which is pretty much my main concern. And it is the reason why I play less and less and I am not even considering buying GWEN nor GW2.
- Not having the ability to use 7 heroes
- Loot scaling - it's a joke. I fought my way from ToA to Fisherman's in a full party - killing whatever got in our way - and on that trip I got 2 drops. White.

If it wasn't for the free-to-play matter, I wouldn't have Guild Wars and I wouldn't be here right now (much to many peoples' delight).
Then again.... the only thing keeping me from converting to another game that may or may not have monthly fees is that Guild Wars is instanced and most other online RPG-types out there aren't. The hostility of the PvP community here however is making me strongly consider alternatives.

I can't believe more people haven't mentioned this. After only a few weeks of GW, I could never go back to WoW.
1: "Hey, what's up? Where are you?"
2: "Felwood. You?"
1: "Hinterlands."
2: "Crap....okay I'll be there in 12 minutes."
...................
.............................
2: "Son of a....I just barely missed the boat. Um...it's going to be a little bit longer."
1: "Okay, but my wife is wanting to know when I'm going to be ready for dinner, so let's try to hurry this up."
2: "Stupid f'ing game! I pay my fee, why am I still traveling instead of playing? WHY?"

While I'd like if WoW had some faster travel options, the boats and stuff add some nice depth to the world feel that GW doesn't have at all.
Besides, those 10 minute flights are a good excuse to get up and stretch your legs and take a break or check your email.

1: Hey dude, we need a monk for this mission. Think you'd be able to come?
2: Sure! What mission?
1: Gate of Madness

Pros:
Level cap
No monthly fee
Cons:
The employee behind skill balance at Anet doesn't understand skill balance well.
Ensign doesn't work at Anet.
Reliance on 8 person parties in PvE. I don't know, but this has always bugged me. I remember making a Barrage ranger that could solo very large amounts of the game; that was much more fun than H/Hing the whole way. Just make the mechanic like Diablo2s - monsters become stronger the more players there are.

To cons about skill balance concerning PvE...
Care to explain what has become so bad?

Real PvP + real economy ftw. GW is fun, and the economy is fine as it is (except for loot scaling), but I think GW could stand to make PvP a bit more visceral and meaningful (AB was definately a good step in that direction).

Pros:

Loot scaling, restrictions in PvP, /report (when abused), Nerf Bat, Gladiator Title Points Scale
Changes:
Revert/Change Updates linked to the Cons (esp. Dishonorable... ppl still charge in & die, which provides equal results as if that player left < = / ).

Pros:
Everything about the basic design; skills, dual classing, attributes, logarithmic armor values, etc.
PvP is completely awesome, especially GvG
Amazing graphics, game runs very well, streaming updates, few bugs
The ability to create PvP characters. No need to spend 15 days rolling a class from 1-70 in order to muck around with it.
Gear is not a factor.
Cons:
New players find it too hard to get into PvP and get discouraged. A larger 40vs40 PvP map with multiple objectives, where people can come-and-go would really help here.
The in-game player community is awful. People mock WoW, but at least people in WoW care about their personal reputation.
A bit too much instancing. Regular mmos do use instancing, and players spend a lot of time in those instances, but they still manage to keep a big-world-of-people feel to them.
No way to advance your character apart from new weapon skins. On the other hand, I don't want gear to be a factor in PvP either. Maybe make it so that various PvE or PvP accomplishments unlock armor skins, tabards, guild hall abilities, inventory space.
No jumping, and in many areas of the game, especially Prophecies, it feels like you are on rails being guided through a theme park.

Pros:
-Gorgeous, even 2 years later. Brand-new MMOs are still not up to GW graphics standards
-Free to play
-Level cap
-Elite items and armor are skin-only
-Infinitely resortable character attributes
-Map travel
-Instances = no spawn camping
Cons:
-Visible proofs of skill (Guardian titles, rank, etc.) are tedious to obtain
-Concessions to grind-loving crowd increasing with time, making me very nervous about GW2
-Player community resembles interactive email spam
-Trade system virtually nonexistent

The grind argument gets thrown around a lot, but it has to be mentioned:
Most Grind is for appearance only.
For the few things grind does effect (PvE skills); it is not hard to get the early level of these, and you don't need high levels for these skills to be effective.

Pro's:
No timely costs. <- Main reason I chose playing GW over any other MMO
Great graphics.
Good gameplay.
Titles.
Heroes / henchmen that allows to play single.
Map travel.
Cons:
Too much skill based.
Limited trade system.
Low level cap.
Skill nazi's limit creativity.
High end items / armor do not provide better stats.

PvE skills are grind embodied.
But the problem is that skill > time never applied in PvE.
Because success can only be shown in places where you meet other people which in PvE means outposts which means vanity items.
And in obtaining vanity items - skill never was the currency.
It's was always time.
Or luck.
