I wouldn't mind if they put off GW2 by another few months, if that means they would go ahead and finish the HoM.

while i agree and disagree with some threads. My opinion is. that ArenaNet has lost sight of guildwars franchise. I must say i quite enjoyed guildwars prophecy for many reasons.
firstly and most importantly. the prophecy campaign had a great story that was spoonfed as the player progressed through the game. and just when the player meaning me, has figured out what was going on they did a 180 and added an interesting behind the scene plot to the grand scheme of the story. and that kept me interested all the way to hell's precipe. i enjoyed it soo much i just had to go through the whole story again, incase i missed something. i did this 3 times.
secondly, the original game design was never about grinding and this is is clearly evident in prophecy. i never had to grind anything, i had enough money to buy armour and skill, and it was good to see that some skill were given as a reward for doing some quests. many may not know, skills were actually free within a few month of the release, which meant if you ever needed to grind, you only needed to grind for xp. the current scheme of obtaining skill point and 1 plat per skill is just ridiculous (thats one of my many gripes about this game). I wont get into the whole 'guildwars is not about grinding' and title, any average joe can figure that they contradict each other
thirdly, lose the heroes. they are the most anti-social idea in this game. most people just grab their heroes and henchies and head off on their quests, i have even seen deidacted player that refuse to play with with wait for over an hour jsut to get pug's for some quests, to me this shows a lack of planning. back in prophecy henchies were soo horrible that you had to party with pug's in order to do a quest or a mission, which actually made it more social! and made it more fun. as of now i can get through 80% of any game with just heroes and henchies. which is just shocking.
lastly, the naratives/voice over for faction, nightfall, and gwen seems as if they paid some people off the street to read a few lines. there is no emotion most of the time it feels like they are reading a paper. prophecy had no such issue.
all in all if i am to be sold for gw2, i seriously hope that arenanet has learnt from their mistake. out of all the campaign i must say prophecy was the best it was the most well polished release in the guildwars series. everything after that felt like it was a half arsed job. and i hated playing factions because i could not stand the narration and i could not stand taking my prophecy character (whom i enjoyed creating and playing as) through the whole game over again. but nightfall had put some faith back into arenanet, interesting storyline, doesnt feel as rushed as faction or gwen but the narration is shocking. and back to hating with gwen and title grind. i believe most of you have figured out i am a casual player, i never was at the start i was hardcore until i went back to studying. but it gives me an different perspective in to the whole guildwars seres as a casual gamer. where most hardcore player may or may not see.

Okay, I'm a little split here:
First, on personal preference: Evidence suggests GW2 is still over a year away. With that kind of gap, a few months isn't really that much of an issue. If the trade was offered to provide some additional content to GW1 at the cost of GW2 being a few months later, I'd take it in an instant.
On the other hand, however, is the consideration of what the devs are stoked about. Whether you like what you see or not, the inescapable conclusion from reading the PCGamer article and other reviews is that the devs appear to be feeling a little burned out over GW1, but are quite stoked about GW2. This implies that there might be a quality imbalance between time spent on GW1 and time spent on GW2 - that time spent on the former may just be something that has to be done so they can go back to the latter, under which circumstances it's probably better for all concerned if they're allowed to do what they'd prefer doing.
Before anyone jumps on this as a reason to say the devs don't care and that GW1 is dead: This isn't saying that I expect that the devs have completely abandoned GW1. In fact, my suspicion (and hope) would be that GW1 will continue to see small updates (maybe we'll even see Avatar of Kormir in some form... >.>) - but these will likely occur as the devs take a break from working on GW2. Trying to insist on them working on GW1 when they really want to be working on GW2, however, is something that I suspect would prove to be counterproductive.
Incidentally, as an aside on the hero/hench thing: I'm not antisocial, but I have been very relieved at the progressive AI updates simply because of my timezone issues - often I found that during the times I'm on there simply aren't people to group with, and that was true even before the release of Factions. Generally, my policy was to do missions that required groups during free weekends while the rest of the time was spent henching to get up to those missions. Without the solo play option, believe me, I'd have been long gone.
From observation of what has been said about GW2, though, it looks like this is roughly what they're aiming for in GW2 - a balance between soloability for some things and forming groups for others.

I'd rather just get GW2 out.

Maybe it's been said already, maybe not, but I'd just like to say that you can't delay something when a release date hasn't been set yet. So, until ANet announces an official release date and then misses it, everything is on schedule.

I'm still hoping for expansion content that expands into Cantha and Elona. I really disliked that these continents were left hanging with GW:EN.
When GW2 is concerned, I agree with most here that it should be a couple years away and that aNet should take their time to make it the ultimate MMO experience... absolutely flawless.

That said, I wouldn't like to try a Nightfall mission like Ruins of Morah without heroes.

You can't see me
I'd like option 1. While I do want to play GW2, I still enjoy GW1, and since I don't know how good GW2 will be, I'd like GW1 to still have some attention if I so choose to keep playing until the last server shuts down.

I would rather wait 10 years for an amazing Guild Wars 2 experience, rather than have it come out in a year or two and be disappointed.

I agree with the general concept of waiting longer for a better game, though.

Well, for one Duke Nukem Forever hit the coveted 10 year development cycle. If it's good enough for the duke, it's good enough for GW.

StarCraft II took 10 years, and it doesn't seem to be hurting its hype...
if anything, delay sometimes HELPS hype. (it must be good, if it's taking this long...) Not always the case, of course.

Duke Nukem Forever has been in production for more than 10 years now.
