I Remember When...
Shiishii Momo
I remember being congradulated when I got to Yak's the first time by random strangers.
I also remember that being where I heard 'rumors' of an armor set that cost well over 1.5 million, and I had a mere 1.5 thousand.
I remember being extremely disappointed when I found out the armor did exist, but was no more special than any other armor.
I remember there being no greens, or any other reason to go into The Falls, and doing it anyway.
I remember that when you zoned back into town after a party wipe, everybody was still in the team, and you discussed what to do different.
I remember being scared of the Charr in Piken Square.
I remember feeling like a loser the first and only time a paid for a run to Drok's.

magi of the light
I remember when i played runescape
Tactical-Dillusions
100k superior vigor's dropped and it was an amazing feeling... then you destroyed it when trying to salvage it.
Pet moa birds were cool and everyone wanted to know where to find them.
THK was a bottleneck for noobs and everyone whinged about it being too hard. Now it's one of the easiest in normal mode (yet to do it on hard).

I remember when:
1. When FDS was a highly sought after weapon.
2. I made my first 10k by buying and selling FDS (a lot of them), and thought to myself I was the smartest dealer on earth.
3. Always wondered what troll farming was.
4. Respected monks a lot and was extra-nice to them.
5. Didn't need vent or TS to do difficult missions.
6. Buying runs were cheap. 500g would get you to a lot of places (especially the desert).
7. I was happy with basic armor sets and enjoyed dying them in different colors.
8. Never had to "ping" builds in PUG groups. Only had to type out my two most powerful skills. Didn't even have an elite until I reached the desert.
9. I enjoyed the Tyrian storyline and took weeks to complete (even for second and third characters).
10. I would watch in amazement when a necro would summon his Flesh Golem for the THK mission (I didn't have factions in June 2006).
11. Warriors were the only tanks, with no other variants in existence.
12. Would PUG any mission/quest because I found it easier.
13. I didn't know what mini-pets were and when I bought one, I thought it would enter a battle with me the same way a tamed pet does for a ranger. (I was a necro).
14. I asked a lot of questions in town and people would answer without any flames.
15. I reached Lion's Arch for the first time and thought it was a great accomplishment - enjoyed the size of the city, several NPC and quests, and the number of people. Failed Galrath mission several times with PUGS but kept repeating with them.
16. Didn't have a single title and the first title I ever got was "Protector of Tyria".
17. Having "Protector of Tyria" title on would result in swift invite at any mission area. (yeah, class didn't matter)
18. Never thought about an extended storage space - infact I thought it was sufficient. Don't know how I managed with 1 tab of storage space which included mainly materials and FDS. lol
19. I thought you couldn't change your secondary profession. I chose Mesmer as secondary since the trainer was very close to Ascalon. Later, I found out you could change it in crystal desert.
20. GW had a lot of secrets that remained secrets since people didn't share as many ideas on internet forums.

I remember joining my first guild - We Come to Kill [You]
First purple - accursed staff in post
first gold - mursaat hornbow
first elite - word of healing
Getting my deer and thinking "I am the shit"
Getting other emotes and getting greedier about them
When I wore a silver cape that I earned.
When that guildleader then proceeded to kick everyone but 3 people (including his core monks) and sold invites for 50k each.

- I remember when the Frog said that rank 15 of hero is a gerbil. I put that on wiki!
- I remember getting 4,652 hitpoints.
- I remember getting to level 20 when I was in the maguuma desert, and being super proud!
- I remember my friend sold me two lame gold weapons for 3k, which was all the money I had at the moment.
- I remember that in my first day of playing the game, I got a black dye drop in pre, and my friend told me it was worth a bit of money, so when I went to post, which was when I was level 13 since I wanted to make sure I did everything in pre, I sold it for 12k...money right off the bat. Haha.
- I remember beating a high ranking guild in GvG for the first time, it was Dead Presidents.
- I remember getting a Flawless Victory on the Guild Another Flawless Victory.
- I remember when I first started playing, I thought you could use any weapon, so I played trying to kill things with a bow as a Warrior/Monk in the beginning.
- I remember people telling me Mending is a must skill for warriors......
Blessed Winds
I remember having parties past the portal to Ettin's Back in Aurora Glade. Back when you can go past it without warping :P

Well it was around the time of prophecies only. Monks were complaining that they weren't getting the respect for the amazing job they were doing: healing and protecting other players. So Large numbers of Monks appeared in Thunderhead Keep (one of the hardest/most annoying missions). And did not accept any invites. "No Deal No Heal" was commonly said by every monk. After a day or two, things started to get back in order with monks and other players. |
Croco Clouds
I remember when I was leading the dance parade in ToA (Grenth's statue) for getting favor at 10 pm (EDT)
cosyfiep
I remember getting the prima guilds for prophecies and factions and USING them for missions and stuff (still wish they would have made one for nightfall ).
I remember my first character and my hubby and I getting our first armor in post....and running to a corner to change our armor! (didnt want anyone to see our nearly naked toons!).
I remember not knowing how to mix dyes and heck now you cant
I remember when you could only change your attribute points a certain amount of times (refund points, is that what we call it?), and I remember thinking I guess I will always be a fire ele!
I remember my old first computer I played pre on....less than 512 memory and it still worked in pre!! (had to get a second stick for post though). I remember using that computer until factions came out and it couldnt handle the graphics (full party wipe before I could hit my skill ). And I remember people complaining about my screen shots from that computer! (and I remember not knowing how to get rid of the ui.... ).....and here is one of those screenies! (yes its the starter isle of factions right outside of the monastery)....

I remember being a hero in Ascalon City's Arena with my level 9 wammo (complete with mending and healing breeze! Everyone used to cheer my name! And i thought i was hot stuff with my more expensive ascalon armor)
I remember a time before Party Search screen, when you'd go to LA dist 1 and take 15 minutes re-scrolling through the "WTS" and "WTB" messages--everyone for a while would post in trade chat, then to show contrast post in all chat.
I remember buying my first (what i thought to be) gold bow--paying all of my saved up gold (22k I think?) which took me a few months to save up.
I remember loading yak's bend for the first time and seeing the loading wallpaper, and being amazed at the change in scenery (and 6 people in a party!)
And I remember loading Pre-Searing ascalon city for the FIRST time, and being absolutely in love. I said "hi!" in all chat, and someone soon said "yeah, you must be new." (because apparently I was saying hi to everyone)
I remember being a complete NOOB and noone bashing newbies for it
I remember not knowing how to add henchmen to my party and taking a couple of tries to understand why i kept dying on my own outside of post-ascalon city
I <3 the old times, and I appreciate the new times. Change is inevitable and learn to adapt and acclimate---adapting is what GW is all about! (don't forget having FUN is important too!)

I'm not that old of a player but...(got my prophecies during the factions era)
I remember throwing away my old max armor when I got a new set of max armor thinking, what use could I possibly have for two sets of armor! Rubbish!
I remember being a very very angry monk because of constant pressure and no energy...until I got better at it.
I remember getting lost in Kaineng like it was just yesterday.....no wait...

Yeah and i remember when this game used to be good. And i could play it the way the people who made it said it was supposed to be played. "Be a top player without putting endless hours into boring nonsense that no one ever really has time for." well Thier quote goes something like that... or at least it has that meaning...
