This is a poll.

Keep comments limited please, dont need any book reports....

Question just came up around my alliance, thought i would spread the question.

Some good points were... price, originality, creativity, rewards, content, game play.

I didnt see any other threads on this type questions so i thought i would start one.

Yes from Anet's news release and wiki, both are considered expansions, though the Sorrow's Furnance is limited to Prophecies only. (when it was released Prophecies was only campaign)

Post your vote...

Considering the sheer amount of content in GWEN in comparison to SF... I really don't think there's any need for this question.

I really enjoyed SF.

Prophecies PvE as a whole was more casual with more groups, and a whole new area in that context was great fun.

Never really bothered with SF or GW:EN...

Edit: Voted SF after some thought. Made enough money in 1 day to buy a set of 15k. Plus, back in it's day SF was quite a challenge. No heroes, poor henchies and even worse pugs.

This really isn't a fair comparison. I mean, SF is so small compared to GW:EN. You might be able to compare SF to other content updates (DoA and Tombs), but this... its too intangibe.

DoA wasn't a content update. It was Nightfall content that wasn't finished. So instead of delay the release, they held that content back.

SF is microscopic compared to GWEN, though both are a lot of fun.

Not really. Everyone got really hyped over GW:EN, then they played it. No one really knew what to expect with SF, so there wasn't that many complaints. Plus, SF brought greens (sigh) and that is when the game began to change.

GW:EN has quite a bit more than SF does.

SF had a nice amount, not as much as GW:EN but it was free.

GW:EN is just so much bigger and more of a variety than SF.
I voted GW:EN.

Of course, SF is still pretty awesome.

I voted SF it was original, free, + fun back when it came out. Gwen is boring, costs $40 + disappointing recycled content. I kind of hate them both.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was roughly the percentage of people on this forum that play the game because it's fee-free, not because it's different. You know, the ones that are constantly trying to turn it into an MMO and for whom GW2 is being made.

Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Dungeon Runners, Rappelz, Archlord and quite a few others are free. Everyone at some point (well most everyone) had to fork out at least a little bit of money for GuildWars (even SF required the original, commercial game). I'm not saying GW wasn't worth it, I'm just correcting a misconception about GW being free. If you're referring to monthly fees while at the same time talking about people trying to make it into an MMO (which is a category known for monthly fees), then you're kind of contradicting yourself as normal games (non-MMOs) don't usually have monthly fees and therefore wouldn't be 'free' in that sense since the norm is to pay an upfront costs only.

IF GW was free then I could download the client and play it without ever having to pay anything. OR I could use the client and play on a third party server (assuming one was complete and available) without worring about ANet shutting it down. Most games require money when you buy them and GW is no different there. The difference is that it provides more playtime for your buck than just about any other off-the-shelf game out there.

SF = Free, and in its time was a new, challenging area which also introduced greens.

GWEN = $40, short (compared to what I expected for the price), nothing challenging, nothing much new. Nice views, though..

This isn't even a valid question, we're comparing an apple and an orange- because one was "free" and one wasn't. Never mind the 10 heroes that came with EotN. As far as difficulty there are plenty of areas in EotN that compare to (and even surpass) Sorrow's. As far as length, Sorrow's was much shorter :-p

If you couldn't tell, I voted for EotN.

if its just "best" then I say EotN.
But I don't think its a fair comparison, its like comparing the PS2 with the PS3, its a later generation of expansion, it should be better, and on top of that it costs money this time, SF was free(as long as you had the game).

I voted SF, the enjoyment i got form that back when it was released was better than what i have gotten form EotN

I haven't played SF that much, since I'm only playing GW for 1 year now.

So I voted GW:EN. I kinda liked it.

EotN.

So what if SF was free? It's not much more than a very large repeatable mission map.

Considering that a large number of ppl that enjoyed SF, quited GW long time before EoTN came out, the number's on this poll will have no surprise.

I've been through both SF and GW:EN many many times. Without question, GW:EN added so much more to the game, and is clearly the better of the two, free or not.

I do not think you can compare that.

1 area + 1 dungeon + the introduction of green items, FREE

vs

some 15-18 (?) areas and 18 (2 of them super tiny) dungeons plus new heroes and skins and whatever, X USD or EUR.

SF wins the bang for the buck price... and the dungeon is a lot more original than all the recycled GWEN dungeons.

I still vote for GW:EN.

I smell a troll poll in favor of Gwen hate.

You can't compare the two, not by content, not by price. The question should be: If Anet had to remove one of the two from the server, which one would you like to stay? You would be an idiot if you'll vote for SF in that case.

Sure, I farmed the hell out of SF and made a fair amount of money doing it, but it wasn't amazingly fun. I found doing Slavers' for the first time funner than doing SF for the first time and EoTN doesn't just include Slavers' it has much more to offer, like the 5 new maxable titles which will shortly be getting me to 20 max titles. I voted EoTN.

SF obviously has much less content than EotN, but with SF they didn't lie to us in the face, EotN is an insult.

Yes, i vote against EotN more than i vote for SF, and that's because EotN deserves it.
