Sheer effort and time required probably added bonus points, that could be why. Kinda shows a massive dedication to producing an awesome work in homage. But hey, I shouldnt really be pointing things like that out.

Must go find where my kids hid the pencils....

Art is probably the most subjective area of interest to 'judge'. Judges of art are a lot like the three blind people in the Chinese fable describing an elephant based on touch. The three blind people each touched different parts of the elephant, leg, tail and trunk, and each gave a totally different description, and each description, though different, was correct.

I understand you think that's an outstanding sculpture, but I'm not as impressed with it as you are. I think it deserves honorable mention because of the amount of work and attention to detail that went into it, but all that work doesn't make it "art" to me. It's way too cutesy for my taste, and I see it as more craft than art.

And that's what I'm talking about. Different strokes for different folks. Just because the judges have different tastes and different approaches to judging than you doesn't make them wrong and you right... and it doesn't make them right and you wrong either.
sorry, this will be my last busy body post regarding this matter, its not that important, and I don't want to get ban from this forum

but i like to politely ask your opinion,

May ectos drop on you everyday.

I won't compare one quarter of one art project to the whole of another. I really like that the whole family dressed as GW characters for Halloween. The work that went into that was huge. Although I would love to know from the artist where she found all those adornments for the dervish costume (it looks like she had to shop many places), Gwen was actually my favorite of the four costumes.

And maybe I'd better be more clear about the sculpture you like so much. I like it too. It's just not the one I would have picked for grand prize myself. To be absolutely honest, there's one anatomical thing in that sculpture that makes it difficult for me to look at it because I sooooo want to change it, and that's wrong, just plain wrong.

Besides that, I personally won't question and have no problem with the judges' choices because of the reasons I cited before.

However, that said, some of my favorites are the Mad King Thorn sculpture, all of the pumpkin carvings (one of those stands out in particular for me), a few of the drawings and, for the sheer cleverness of it, the pumpkin made of the different colored GW skill icons.

I can't see why anyone would want to ban you from this forum and certainly hope no one else can see a reason because I do enjoy your presence here. Thank you for the wonderful blessing... right backatcha.

pumpkin, are you implying that the costume work is less than a sculpture?

Keep in mind, 4 separate costumes!

(Both are good, only one could win)

Anyone who implies that making a good costume requires no artistic talent or hard work is in lala land where everything is made in 5 minutes and money grows on trees.

Anyways, Gaile does the Wintersday Hat have to be a "Hat" or can it be like the Freezie Crown & Mummy mask?

I know the count as hats in-game I just want to make sure that ANET isn't limiting it for the sake of clipping logistics (all the examples on the site are hat/horn things)

Me too. I think that's why I never cottoned on to that sculpture. Plus it reminds me of gradeschool art classes in a bad way.

You mean the err... things... on the chest that aren't pointing in similar directions?

I noticed that, too.

Thank you. I found my answer there, and I'm surprised.
The flail balls were made: styrofoam ball wrapped in duct tape. Spikes were made of salt dough and baked in the toaster oven. These were superglued to the balls and then it was sprayed with the metal hammered finish spray-paint. Superglue does not attach well to duct tape so care had to be taken with them.
It never dawned on me that you'd made them. I imagined you'd had to shop very cleverly over the internet. Good job! Congrats!

Thank you Obastacle for the graphic description... you read my mind?

Yeah, if they show mine, win or lose, I'll be embarrassed.

Should probably wait until after the entry deadline has passed, so no unscrupulous people snag your idea.

Oh, no doubt. It is the internet after all.

Just meant, I'm pretty sure there is no rule saying you can't take the chance and post it.

if u ask me, zboard made way to many keyboards for anet and now they r given them away to cut alittle loss out...

how bout

first place "some creativity"
second "some originality"
third "something different"
honorable "something new"
finalist "something with thought"

if they just listed those, like that, i think more ppl would show interest... just the promise of the shear possibility of a change....

oh well, anet is full of promises, that they love crushing, they could offer that and then ruin all hope, as always, and give everyone mini grey giants...

WTB ORIGINALITY +1 / 15%.... 20% doesnt exist anymore im told, was nerfed right after nightfall came out....

well, last weapon contest she wanted us to wait till the winners were announced before posting. Maybe cuz the judges would be able to see what we had submitted outside of a controlled/anonymous viewing? I dunno.

It would be really nice to wait to post until after the announcements, if you guys don't mind. You're free to do what you wish, but I think it makes the most sense to wait, since you asked me.

Sent my entry a few days ago myself, it's not a hat per se. It's a head accesory yes =P but not a hat, I hope that counts. And uhm, I myself like participating in these kinds of events a lot, despite a bunch of peeps seeing em as conspiracies =P There's no reward like seeing ppl with your equipment runnin around/doin stuff. My 2 cents ~
