will utopia have a chance?
warcrap
i've heard of a new campaign that was supposed to be the fourth one but was cancelled due to guild wars 2 the concept art looks really good for it in the guild wars magazine i bought at the new stand.
we cant let all that content just go to waste i think they were about almost half way done when they had to cancel the content.
so for guild wars 2 cant utopia be some kinda of an expansion it could bring all the content but just revamped and altered from a stand alone to an expansion.

We dunno how far it even went. All I've seen from it have been about 10 pieces of concept art.
So I'd say no, Utopia probably won't have much of a chance. However, I'd expect to see some of it in GW2.

It's my belief that at least some of the content made it into GWEN. The Asura lands have a very Mesomerican look, like Utopia seemed to have.
I am curious what new Professions Anet was thinking about, I wonder if they'll ever release that info...

Yuck, I couldn't stand to have any more professions. The scales can only hold so much.

It'll will be interesting to see how Anet plans to do "expansions" in GW2.

I'd like to see a Mesoamerican continent or subcontinent as an expansion of Guild Wars 2, with a 'New World' sort of theme. That seems to have been what ANet was planning with Utopia.

Utopia = GW:EN.
All that was made was put in there. The Asuran lands are what Utopia was supposed to be.

Someone told me there would be an expansion to GW1 and it was the "big thing" that Gaile spoke about (and later said it was nothing) I believe him as he was right about other things that have happened in game before it was released but he will not tell me how he knows. Anyway I think it is bogus that Gaile didn't mean anythhing by it because in her posts the "big thing" was trademarked so I think she let cat outta bag before she should have then just tried to cover it up....oh, and I was the second gunman on the grassy knoll

Nah, it doesn't have a chance. It's already been recycled into Eye of the North, which explains why the Asuran regions have a mesoamerican theme.
In the concept art I read about how people were going to be controlling giant lizards/dinosaurs. Didn't happen, but the dinosaurs are already in the game.

Remember when the other concept art was released for GW:EN....alot of discussion on where they would use half of those designs too..
There is alot of 'empty' space remaining on the world maps!!

a retail big added content package which will be in place of chapters at no set schedule.
the store will be bigger than you imagine with vanity non game busting micropayments all over.
EXAMPLE with random guess price examples
sardalac has a wish list of them
5 dollars for a hair style or 3 for 10 DYE NOT INCLUDED
5 dollars to change hair color
7.50 for style and color change
no effect on gameplay but the change color every week with money to burn will bring in steady money.
Gaile stated in the dev forum it was mentioned that Anet has accepted the player base definition of GW as an MMORPG not a CORPG.
promoting the online store now to get players used to it when GW2 comes out.
IMO AS I AM GUESSING dev section not a guess

For the record, I liked the golden Golems better than the ones presented in GWEN.

I do think it would have been better to have a longer campaign storyline to finish out the GW series than a smaller expansion. It really should have been the end-all-beat-all of the GW campaign. I think as the ending to a series as epic as the GW1 franchise, GW:EN left a bit to be desired in length and continuity. It seemed like it was a storyline that should have been twice as long. And, really, I think having three seperate mini arcs to the storyline it spread itself too thin.
GW:Utopia looks like it certainly would have been a great game, and it's a shame it wasn't made.
However... I don't quite see why they have to throw in the towel for GW1 after GW:EN. After GW2 comes out, and if GW1 is still popular, they might consider going back and releasing another expansion for GW1 and giving our heros a proper send off.

Yeah, I'm a girl smartass.
I just think it had a really unfitting name.
While I wish it could have been another full campaign, I'm glad that they decided it wasn't going to work. Balance is hard enough doing the original 6 classes, let alone the 10+ that would be in existence after the release of the fourth chapter.

Pyromancer, Aeromancer, etc, all refer to the kind of damage that armor gives better defense to...
what would Chronomancer armor do? And what about the Necromancer?
In any case, Utopia should have had two new professions. Even if they were never developed beyond concept, there must have at least been some ideas of professions being thrown around after Factions was released (when concepts for Utopia were first started).
I also hope some of these mounts make it into GW2... they look fantastic.

If thats true then I am glad they scrapped Utopia for GW:EN.
I am not sure if I could stand to play through that much of Asura Land.

Now back on topic. I'd also like to see it included as additional content just like Sorrow's Furnace was. Maybe not all of it, only a little and just enough to keep us doing something while GW2 comes.
VanDamselx
The name, to me anyway, just sounds really un-epic. I just didn't like it when I heard it.

i saw a concept art of guild wars 2 showing someone on a boat fishing.
well sure every game should have a fishing tradeskill and also boating would be an awesome new idea.

Love the art, thanks for posting the link. I think you have all the Mesoamerican content you are going to get in the Tarnished Coast, unfortunately, which is a shame because I love the underground temple thing.
My attention was drawn to this from the official wiki: "Interestingly, "utopia" is Greek for "no place" or "place that does not exist". It could also be interpreted as "unseen", which, in turn, points to the Mursaat. " Rata Sum is of course an anagram of Mursaat so I surmise that it was planned we would get more of them in the aborted C4. Their motivation has always been one of the most intriguing aspects of GW to me; perverted good or just plain evil?.... plus they kicked ass....... Anyway I hope they return.

i don't think there will be much more added to GW now, and whiel i wudl like new proffs and regions i don't see that happening, and I would imaging GW2 will have amore limited geopgraphy than GW now has. It certainly sounds like both Elona and Cantha are isolated by the dragons in TYria

Personally, I think it's a crying shame it didn't happen - GW2 apparently came about because they wanted to do things that they didn't think would work properly in GW1, but it would have been nice to have seen just the continent and story as a mega-expansion without the new professions or other forms of 'reinventing' the game. Especially if it involved finally learning something about the Mursaat...

whats going on here is that theu canceld a chapter, so they said all they did is not finish a chapter and cut it out to be a expansion instead gwen is 1/2 of what utopia is soppose to be defeating the great d , was not going to be the end of C4 but the middle leading to awaking the dragons of the forgotten lands,
from what i think and know you will see 2 of the drgans awake before guild wars 2 , whic h will be the lesser of the 2 dragons, one being the one we woke up in gwen!!!
ps look for another short expansion news comign this christmas , they dont wanbt us knowning about yet ,,,
look at these facts for months guildwars utopia rumors floated about , and all that was said from anet is thats not the truth , guildwarsutopia.com for example , i posted info on that then had thread closed becuzi gave info out abotu the new chapter. then news came out that guild wars 2 is comign and no new chapters.
so next rumor is a new expasion , think about this way guildwars 2 is not to hit sotres til 2009 or 2010, they will have to do somthing to keep us playing and waiting for 2 to come out and eye of the north will not do this

i believe one of the main reasons they abandonned it was the fact they had to make tutorial all over again and that is actually a huge thing. They would also have to do quests leadings from each of the campaigns to the other
