How much do you spend monthly on games or gaming related activities?

All right, so I was reading through another thread and this idea came to me. I'm wondering how much everyone spends on games or gaming related activities a month. Just an average is okay, I know some months you could spend more then others. I think it's an interesting topic considering that Guild Wars is free of a monthly subscription so really am just curious. This could include:
  • monthly subscriptions for other games or services
  • games you buy
  • gaming gear such as headphones/keyboards/etc.
  • LAN parties
  • internet cafes
  • gaming magazines you have a subscription to
  • EBAY
  • web hosting for guild sites
  • Vent or other voice services
  • fines to the federal government for pirating games

All expenses, time and directly monetary, factored in, over $200 a month. Not going to say how far over, though.

I go through a headset every month, a mouse every two months, a keyboard every month and a half... I could probably afford to upgrade the more essential hardware in my box if I wasn't so dead-set on buying excellent input devices instead. Then there are the games, and the time I spend playing them, which adds up quicker than I care to think about. Not many LAN parties anymore, but I do hit one up about once a month on average for the lulz and fraggage. And, as I don't really pay for games much anymore, I have paid my share of hefty dues to Uncle Sam's fat cousin... But I swear, they were all gifts! Honestly, I've never even worn an eyepatch!

Dear me. I'm going to go bankrupt at this rate.

Dont buy enough games to make it over the average of $30 a month... This month I spent about $50 for a new PS2 controler when I got Guilty Gear XX Accent Core for my B-day. Last Game I got before that was Eye of the North. =/

$1-30 if you average it out.
I will usually buy a new game every 2-3 months. When I was buying Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North, I spent $150 on the spot. But I don't plan on buying any new game for a while since there is no need.

Ends up being about 8 dollars/month, since all I can afford these days is one game every several months, which for this cycle would be GW.

My Wii is costing me a fortune apparently. I'm over the $200 mark with monthly game purchases, some gaming magazines, I have a GameTap subscription. Pay for another MMOG monthly. My headphones need like a monthly replacement (can't seem to stop rolling over them with my chair). Wow... I spend a lot.

Go make this poll in Lineage, EQ2 (station exchange servers), Entropia Universe or WoW forums.

You might need to add a few categories above $200 though.

Sometimes I go a month without buying any games at all, sometimes I buy 3+ games in one month. I don't have any subscriptions, rarely buy any new gear, and only occasionally buy magazines (maybe one or two per year). The most costly things I bought this year were a Wii and some new speakers. On the whole, I don't spend a lot - voted $31-60, though if I calculated it I might be in the next category up.

I know Antheus, that's why I thought it may be interesting to see the answers. With no monthly for GW I am going to assume the average is a bit lower then other games but it will be interesting to find out.

I'm at the 100-200 bracket but Christmas is near, so I'll probably exceed and splurge on a new gaming mouse and keyboard.>.<

$40-$50 on average, but I sell games I'm not playing and don't see a need to keep and have a fairly steady supply of gift certificates so net is closer to $10. I've never spent a dime on a monthly fee, and never plan to.

I'm somewhere in the low end of the $30-$60 range, seeing as I get a game every couple months, plus I tend to go through microphones quickly. I am planning on splurging a bit on a keyboard soon, so that won't help. Sticking to computer games only has helped, not having to buy a console in addition to a computer makes me happy.

The real killer for me is the opportunity cost : )

If only I'd spent those 2,000 and some odd hours over the past couple years working. lol

Mine's next to nothing lately, but I still voted $31-60, as months ago I used to spend a bit more. My limiting factor is time usually. I just dont have time to play another game in addition to Guild Wars, titles and multiple characters adding almost too much to do to the game. When I tire of doing that, I simply take a break from GW and from gaming in general for a while. GW chapters/expansions come out so rarely that there simply hasnt been a need to buy much for gaming. I'd have bought more, had there been more.

At some point I suppose I may go back or move on to some other games, but right now GW is both very cheap to play and very consuming of my gaming time.

as of now my gaming expenditures are well below the 30$ but thats because there is no game to buy.

im waiting for brawl for the wii, and fire emblem, and one more rpg for the wii but i forgot the name.

once i get them is like 60-70 (dollars) per game, but then i spent the next 4 or so months without buying games. (Specially considering im trying to save to upgrade my pc at this year's end)

but i do spend a monthly 10-15 (dollars) or so on two magazines.

Depends how I feel. During the summer... I'd spend over $800 on games. Whether it was buying new consoles, games for them, or even extra controllers and what-have-you, I had the money, so I spent it.

Now that I'm not working as much because I have to go to school again every day, maybe $70 (one new game) to $210 (four new games) a month.

I should also note that I have three copies of NightFall and only one of which I used, seeing as I traded the other two for things online which were not normally obtainable in my current situation (you would be lucky to find a physical copy of Counter-Strike 1.6 around here). So sometimes I overspend to get something I really want. In this case, spending $45 on a copy of NightFall to trade for a $10 copy of Counter-Strike.

But it's okay! I did it for teh lulz

I rarely buy new games anymore. Mostly GW and Guitar Hero series these days. And I don't have any subscriptions or stuff, but I do buy a local gaming magazine now and then, so I voted 1-30 €.

All the guild wars campaigns+EotN avg something like $10/month? That should account for the past few years fairly well.

I put 1-30. I have no regular monthly gaming expenses, don't subscribe to gaming mags, no pay-to-play games, etc. If I see a title that interests me, I'll usually wait until the price drops before I buy it, with the exception being expansions of games I already play & like (i.e. new GW stuff I pre-order, pretty much everything else these days can wait). Otherwise I just replace hardware & peripherals as they break.

Okay, and if you spend more then 90% of your internet time gaming or reading game forums/blogs/articles you have to count your monthly internet fee.

I was at 1-30 until Inde mentioned internet cost. I pay for a 15MB connection as we have three heavy users in the household, two gamers and a movie/video nut.

So I moved up to 31-60 in my thinking. Then I remembered the new motherboard, soundcard and video card this year and the booster antenna for the wireless network connection. I bought the preorder and EOTN this year. I bought the two PC Gamer mags this year.

So, as I am scaring myself, I cut off the list and voted for $61-100. That's my final answer.

I am very loyal, I only play Guild Wars.
Reason 1: its free thus no monthly fees Thus I voted Nothing.
Reason 2: it has the most beautiful graphic I've come across so far.

In reality I think I spend around 1 - 30 (not in my currency) on gaming realated purchase but they are not subscriptions, they are all one time purchase, I don't see me paying a monthly subscriptions to play any game. not even guild wars, the day it says monthly fees is the day i stop playing guild wars. except I forgot also include the internet fees.

Although, by the end of next month (christmas and all), I expect to spend a lot more.
EDIT: If internet connection counts, then no one can possibly spend Nothing, but my number would still stand.

games you buy
Over the past 12 months, about 300$, i generaly buy games at discounts, and once every few months(8 games this year), so that would be about 25$ a month.

I did buy a whole new computer about a month ago basicaly just to play new games decently(like Bioshock and CoD4, which i haven't bought yet, waiting for a sale or promotion somewhere and a few future ones too), which would raise the monthly spending by a grade or two, but i didn't count that in, as it does have other uses too

$1-30 which I guess is about £0.5-£15.

GW fills up alot of my gaming time at the moment, so with EotN and a few character slots that adds up.
I have a supscripton to PCZone magazine which is about £4 a month.
I did buy the Orange Box recently but that is still only ~£25 but I think that and EotN are the only two games I've bought this year.

I have such a backlog of games that I haven't finished yet and also my PC isn't top of the line any more so I can't run the newer games that well so I tend not to buy any and stick with what I've got.

As for equipment my stuff tends to last so I don't buy stuff very frequently. Even with the odd hard drive here and there my spending probably doesn't hit £180 a year. (Until next year when I want a new PC ¬_¬)
