The "mix and match" part suggests the unlocks can be chosen by the player. (Gaile, confirm?)

As for unlocking the skills for a Chapter: if you buy that chapter's PVP unlcoks, they will immediately be available for use, no need for Balthazar faction.

(I can't help but add, the hype on this being good for PvE players is ridiculous. The better our Heros have it in PvE, the more I wish I had the same options for my Main...)

50% off is great and all, excpet that I can't find what the regular asking price is. Anyone know? Also, why is this still not in the store practically at the end of the day on Nov. 15?

They're late. There's nothing new in the store yet and it should have been up 1 1/2 hours ago according to the announcement.

Yeah, I just checked there and its $19.95 USD for the pvp access pack, but still no mention of the skill unlock packs. I'm guessing they'll be the same.

....thats because you're being dumb. It hasn't launched in the store yet cause theres still UHHHH 8 hours left of the day over there. Most likely the PvP packs will launch when the end of the day comes, along with the usual Thursday update, and the Bonus Mission Pack...

Over where? Its a couple hours before quitting time in Seattle now. You mean 8 hours left in the actual day? So if you're local depatment store advertises a sale beginning on Nov. 15, wouldn't you expect to be able to make your buy before midnight?

You.

Just because they say thats when the offers good from time wise, doesn't mean it will be up then. Nowhere does it say the product in question will be offered then.

Sorry, its just the way it works!

My unlock pack is called "Priest of Balthazaar" Only missing a few non-elite Assassin skills, non-elite Ritualist skills, a few elite and non-elite Dervish skills, and lastly alot of Paragon skills. But considering faction is easy enough to come by I could have them all unlocked in a week or two if I wasn't lazy about it.

Pretty sure there would have to be a skill trainer for you to purchase it from. Unlocking skills doesn't give them to your characters, just makes them available to purchase from the skill trainers.

I think it's more of the fact that, except for PvE only ones, which are not included in the pack, there are no other GW:EN elites.

A surprising move for ArenaNet. Normally, one milks a franchise for all its worth when it is dying (i.e. Star Wars, Pokemon)

The fact that Guild Wars is doing it now, with GW2 two years away, isn't comforting.

Actually, when you made this post, it was already a new day in Washington State. Still nothing in the In-Game Store at this time, and its past noon here.
Are these $19.99 each honestly?

Maybe I'm reading it wrong... hope so. Or let us all learn unlocked skills at any trainer... Uggg.. Mystic Regen on ever Derv from word go....

Bit disappointed if this hasn't been though out.

These skills (except elite skills) also become available for your PvE characters to learn from any Skill Trainer.
^---- Nope.. I don't think I'm reading it wrong :-(
Some of us don't have the time to go through each game and cap all of the elites. Nor the farming power or powertrading power to get enough money for it.

So I'm going to be spending twenty bucks tomorrow. ^^

Eh... I was kinda looking forward to the GWEN unlock, but it looks like I'll have to blow $19.95 for the PvP access kit *then* get the $4.95 (this is with the 50% off) GWEN PvP unlock. Guess I might as well wait for GWEN's price to come down instead.

Must say the price is more tempting than I expected. Shame they didn't throw in a few PvE freebies, though. Say 10 regular skills and 3 elites per toon (not in pre, obviously). That would've really got my attention.

As it stands, I think my heroes can survive with what I've already unlocked for them.

So let me make sure I'm not missing anything here.

'Guild Wars is about individual skill, not time accumulated.'

So if those skills that one needs to obtain to become skilled at their individual skilliness are simply 4.95USD away, what chance is there that a freshly unlocked player is going to know how to use all of them? Or any of them?

Even a fresh PvP character is given a few free skills to start with, and from there you can participate in Alliance Battles, GvG, TA, RA, HA and such. Those reward Balth faction, as well as faction for your respective side in AB. You can then use your reward to learn new skills or unlock new components and insignias for your weapons and armor. As you earn you learn how each class plays, and what skills complement each other. Thus, you become more adept at PVP than a fully unlocked greenhorn.

I dunno, maybe it's just a tired old woman talking when I say that this seems like a greed move on Anet's part. I don't like saying that because GW has consistently free to play, but still. This seems like a step backward, not forward.

I would be very ashamed If I were one of you unlock buyers. Those who buy them deserve a [LAME] sign above their heads to let everyone know that this person sucks at pvp and accepting him to a party brings a high risk of failure.

Getting all the unlocks by just playing the game is extremelly easy at the current rates and wise spending of faction can assure you never miss a skill or weapon mod for a build. Buying unlocks doesn't make anyone better, a noob that buys them will still suck just as much. But there are always terrible players who want to buy their ingame success and 'advantages' (like ebay gold buyers) and Anet found a way to make money on them.

Does it make the game better? Definately not, it's not any improvement at all, it doesn't help those players to be better. It's just a way for milking those suckers instead of teaching them how to play and that earning those unlocks is really very easy.

The "PvP Access Pack" is exactly opposite - it's godawesome, it came 1 year too late, it was really needed to make PvP easily accessible for everyone without the need of spending 150$++ on all campagins/expansion. All unlocks are not needed immediately, new players need to learn to play, learn to use all those skills and stuff.

I honestly don't see a difference between folks who faction farm for their skills and those who just fork out real money. Like you said, earning unlocks is easy and takes no skill, so the person who grinds it out to get all the skills really isn't learning much, even less so if the skills were bought in PvE. Also like said, a new player who buys a skill pack will still be new and have to learn how to play the game. The advantage that you imply is there simply doesn't exist and there's nothing preventing either player from learning how to play the game

Skill != skills. Regardless of how a person unlocks skills, they'll still have the same level of understanding of the skills.

I'm getting so screwed by this. I had a second account from before the intro of Factions (and the intro of additional character slots). About a month ago I decied I'd invest in the PvP editions one at a time and turn that second account into a PvP only account. So I got the Nightfall edition, I go back to weeks later to buy Factions, the store no longer offers them, I write PlayNC, they tell me they are updating the choices, and it will not effect people already owning PvP editons.. Bull$$$$ .... so now I've got a basic Prophecies account with the PvP nightfall stuff unlocked, I want to buy the Factions one (at $5) but guess what, I'd also have to buy their nice little "PvP kit" first.. which is screwing me into having to pay for stuff I already have! Tell me how this is fair? I wrote PlayNC, they said they are not crediting back money to anybody who paid the near $40 for the first PvP editons, and now they want to screw me out of extra moeny to finish it out!

Everytime I turn around it looks like they're inventing a new way to try and sucker some more money out of people.
Give them another six months and they will find a way to charge a monthly fee for being in a guild.

Understand your frustration. But considering that you only have to pay $24.90 for PvP access and Faction's skill unlock, it's still a bargain than paying $39.99 for Faction PvP Edition which you tried to buy before. So clearly the new options are way better than the old PvP editions for new pvp players.

Oh, I wasn't expecting anything, but since the packs are now cheap enough to consider for heroes (if I hadn't already unlocked most of the elites they need), I thought it was a shame there wasn't something extra, to make them a bit more tempting to the PvE'er - as I'd happily buy a couple if there was.

Ok, I've got to admit that I don't totally understand this unlock pack thing... I understand from a PvP point of view, but I'm a PvE'er... When it says unlocks for heroes, does that mean it has now totally negated the hero skills guys, and gives the automatically all the skills from whatever pack you buy? Or do all these hero skill trainers simply have all the skills available and you buy it from them?

I might get it to completely deck out my heroes, since I tend to only buy the skills I need on all but the characters I play most, Namely a monk, an ele, and a necro. I have very few skills of other professions, none at all but the ones that come with the heroes of Paragon, Sin and Dervish...
