Why such a sad ending to such heroic efforts?

Considering all the evil they unleashed (ex: Palwa Joko,) our characters may very well turn into a ghosts endlessly suffering for the things they've done

IMO it will be awesome to meet the ghost of your former character somwhere in the game Unless the ghost will turn out to be a totally emo weeping complaining wuss ^^

i am not very good at writing this but let me try...

from the chaos, rose a hero, who lead the people to ...

you never hear from peace, rose a hero, theres no where to go from there ... you need the sadness to have heros, and our characters are these heros, without all the chaos and sadness, we will not be needed ... probably have to work in starbucks ...

I would have prefered an invasion from outer space, like in the Pern stories.

I was thinking about an idea like the one just mentioned, it'd be really neat if you could see your old character as a ghost or in some other form in places like the HoH.

We did release him.
And get him his lands and army back.
Actually it was varesh who let him go

And, really, it seems like the main strength that humans in the game have is an indomitable spirit that shines through in the darkest of times. It would have been nice if the script writers had taken that spirit they have fostered throughout four campaigns into account when coming up with the story basis for GW2.
I did not even think of magic when I typed that. Unfortunately, all the magic and special skills (such as all the stances and attacks) that the humans have in game, so do all the monsters and other races. However, it is true that the main strength of the humans in the game is their spirit. But like I said, there aren't that many heroes with spirit to deal with such a huge problem as ancient, evil dragons rising from the ocean, or a tyrant taking over from the Emporer in Cantha and turning the country into a military dictatorship, or an undead army that was only defeated last time through the heroic acts of one man and his huge army.

As I understand it, Varesh did weaken the enchantments that held Joko in place when she weakened the walls of reality, but it was our characters that physically released him. Maybe he would have got out himself eventually, since there was nothing holding him there except a huge piece of rock, but it was us that sped that process forward and actually released him.

I'm thinking of something and would like an opinion...

What if it all come to a sort of trilogy? GW1, GW2 and GW3?

GW1: I don't really have to say what happens, right?

GW2: The "Dark Hour" of the world. Everything and everyone going nuts because of these dragons. Ascalon City is a no-man's land full of spirits while the rest of the place is Charr territory, Cantha's new emperor is a bit touched in the head and Elona can no longer afford pensions for its increasing numbers in undead civilians . Eventually in the end of the GW2 arc the second generation of heroes manages to get things better and with less perils crossing the roads like some Palawa guy.

GW3: Charr finally driven back to where they came or exterminated (who cares as long as we're home again?), White Mantle and Mursaat are but a memory and the Lionguard and Shining Blade joined forces to protect the royal family. Elona is cleared from undead Jokos and Cantha's emperor has a psychiatric taking care of him. Shards of Luxon and Kurzicks start reforming back to the pre-Shiro peace. Then the biggest monster of all come through adn threates all bla bla bla and finally the Old Gods have to come THEMSELVES to fend it off (with our indispensable help of course). In the end the gods decide they'd really like a nice a summer retreat and also to be closer to the world to assist anyone who might need help with some baddies. Melandru in Maguuma, Balthazar in the Fire Island Chain, Grenth just outside Droknar, Lyssa in Kryta, and Dwayna in Ascalon. (tourism explodes as everyone wants to meet the gods)

This is of course wild, WILD speculation.

PS: Why do the dragons in GW2 want to blast anything they see for no reason??

No...Varesh weakened things, but WE let him out of his tomb to find out how to cross the Sulfurous Waste. We then let him go after he showed us the worms because he fulfilled his end of the deal (with Zhed protesting and wanting to kill him) Honorable yes. Stupid, yes Granted, it was Joko or Abbadon, but it IS our fault he's out.

Togo was already about 80 in factions. He is long since retired, dead and beyond revival.

They have to make a sad ending in order to make more ppl buy GW2. If they put a happy ending, then ppl will start playing a new game (WoW maybe?).

In a less storyline-interesting notion, the entire story for GW2 can be summarized as "No Cantha or Elona, and every race of interest is in central Tyria. And so is the replacement of the battle isles. And all big bad enemies."

But you need a nice story to sell that and keep it interesting.

I tell you, GW2 is the "dark, hellish period of the world". The gods themselves are gonna come and provide 99.99% of the power needed to defeat the final menace in GW3 but without our 0.01% the world is doomed!!!

Yeah and in Prophecies Turai Ossa was a thousand + year old ghost helping you ascend so Togo should be way more rezzable. Not that it matters though.
