The player-versus-player served to add to the mix a little bit. However, humans quickly figure out what combinations of skills and players work well against other combinations of skills and players. After a little while, you start to realize your replaying the exact same battles over and over.

The horror....

As far as the combat system and game play goes, these aspects of the game frustrated me too. Guild Wars employed all the common elements of your typical mmorpg. You got stat points and skill points and equipment. You learned collected more skills, you completed quests, you grinded, different character classes excelled at different things, and you killed different monsters with different techniques depending who was good at what in your party.
Certain characters excel at different things....wow...

Maybe he was looking for a MMOPONG?

Yup, WoW hands down.
If this guy was serious, he is seriously a moron.
I actually think he was joking though, nobody could be that stupid.

Did they listen?
No, of course not!
And look where we are today!

A pink Exp bar with a pimp hat with a feather on it would of been much better.
That was not sarcasm.
GW gets bad reviews cus its from a different mold.
The only reason to give GW a bad review is because izzy doesnt love the assassin.
It's a very weird review.
I'm really curious what he'd say about all the other popular online rpgs if he wasn't impressed with a system involving health and energy, nor with the landscape design. Perhaps he only played the beginning of the very first game.
Really strange.
BTW. Gaile, I petitioned for the xp bar to be a pair of jazz hands that slowly become brighter and shake when you level up. That's what the UI artists get for not listening to my incredible bleeding edge suggestions.

That "review" was so hilarious I was in tears from uncontrollable laughter. I actually thought it was a joke or a parody, but after I managed to control the maniacal laughter, I realized this guy/gal was quite serious. So many things wrong...
Please name an MMO with graphics that are more than marginally superior to GW. I dare you. I cant think of one off the top of my head. I also wonder if this guy was running on minimum settings due to a 56k modem, a P2/P3 machine, having like 128 ram, or like an 8 meg graphic card. Aside from certain creatures that are supposed to look like blocks (The Apocrypha comes to mind,) I cant think of anything in GW that looks blocky O.o
These sentences, along with the entire rest of the review, makes me wonder if any of the following apply to him/her:
1. Is this person on drugs?
2. Is this person highly delusional in general?
3. What games does this person like, if any?
It. is. an. rpg..... I'm thinking, this guy should be playing a different genre of games all together. Thats like.... saying a first person shooter shoudnt have guns. *sigh*
Like I said... its an RPG, since when do RPG's not have managing health and energy? Anyone?
OMG! ITS GREEN! BAD RATING FOR GAME! OH NOEZ! </sarcasm>
Right, because its so much more expensive for the typical MMO player to buy a couple of campaigns than to buy a full priced game, an expansion pack or two, and pay $10-$20 a month, Riigghhhtttt....
Well, in the real world, if a human is getting beat over and over by an opponent, and he/she takes forever or never at all figures out why, or in general, when a human cant adapt to a situation, its often referred to as mental retardation.

What? You want us fighting in space? Modern buildings? Where? I want this reviewer to come here, tell us where else to fight, instead of whining. And come to think of that, alot of areas did not fit that template at all. Domain of Anguish in particular comes to mind.
Wait, what? The one nice thing he had to say about GW wasnt very accurate, or at least very skewed in perspective. Unfortunately, the GW is infested with those of extremely elitist mindsets, and not very helpful outside of Wiki.
That made... no coherent sense at all. What demonstrated this? And if he is refering to the paragraph before, how in hell did it do that? Also, sorry to burst this guy's delusional fantasy bubble, but in both real life and in video games, there is no such thing as absolute perfection, and if there was, things would become boring quickly.

The game boasted beautiful landscapes and great graphics. But when I played it, I was disappointed. Yes, it was significantly better aesthetically than the free mmo’s out there, but this was a major title game.

I was hoping for that Holy Grail, inexpressible experience of the perfect game. You could give it the excuse that it was over hyped and was objectively decent looking, but excuses shouldn’t satisfy a true gamer. It was spectacularly unspectacular. I had come to expect a certain level of quality in graphics and artistic design for the game, and I was brutally disappointed. All of the figures and objects were blocky and awkward. Instead of pulling me in and immersing me in the game, the visual effects (yes, even the world and level design) only furthered my realization that I was playing a poorly rendered fantasy game.

For the kind of cash you’ll have to shell out to play the full game between all the expansions (I bought all three) and additions that compliment one another, you expect way more than what's delivered.

Even the level design was standard. You had your desert area, your snow area, your plains area, and your swamp and forest area. Even the architecture featured a little bit from every continent. Perhaps that is what the designers were going for; Perhaps they wanted to take all the elements that have come to be common among the genre and incorporate them and wrap them up into an all-inclusive game. For me, that only served to make an all-inclusively common game. There was nothing special about it.

To me, the one good thing about it was the community of game players. I thoroughly enjoyed my dealings with all I encountered in the web community, in-game as well as out. There a great amount of interaction between players through fan sites as well as the game. Everyone was genuinely genial and helpful. Unfortunately, this saddened me to see such a huge and thriving community so involved in such a mediocre, standard game.
Quote:
To me, this fact only serves to demonstrate the fact that the mmo community needs and deserves a truly perfect game (which I’m sure they would gladly compensate the developer for as well).
Mmmmkay. I've read the review and well... I feel the complete opposite. GW'S graphics aren't the best, but they're pretty good. I'm curious how long he played. If he's totally new at the game, he needs to spend more time in it - the fun starts at max level. How he found the player interaction good though, I've got no idea, since the community is very cookie-cutter and there's a ton of idiots.
Lost all credibility. GG.

Have fun.
He is going to do GW:EN soon. Oh, I can't wait.

And despite the fact we both agree on all the things about the game that weren't fun, in the end we both liked the game.

Yes, it's hard to tell. But he actually dug Assassin's Creed.
