It's still possible to get 15-20k per hour by brainless farming but no PvP mode allows anyone to get that much faction, and even if it happens, it's certainly not consistently. And farming is available to anyone, no real restrictions.
At the moment the only PvP way of getting that many keys per hour is successful play in ats. And that's completely out of reach for the vast majority of PvE'rs that are interested in getting the hot drops.
The high key price is therefore justified.

If you don't like the price of the keys then go save up 5k balth. and get one that way.

its simple supply and demand, at the moment demand is high to see what all the fuss is about, in about a month or two they will be abou half price i bet.

Keys are just another way to gamble in GW and from what I've seen in other games, people love to gamble, especially when it's simple to do. 5k is a relatively easy amount to get, especially if you know where to farm and like others have said it's easier to get 20k in an hour than 20k faction. The only people who will make more money selling keys than farming is people who do well in the ATs or do very well in HA. That means there are some Euros who will make quite a lot and just a handful of Americans that will.
I just want to see what happens to the price when someone finds one of the ultra rare chest-only drops that Anet has hinted at. I won't mind selling keys at much more than 5k/each

these keyes are really imo not more then 2 Platin worth...
Whoever pays 5 Platin for 1 key must be stupid... 5 Platin payed ..for a high chance only to receive 1 firewater or 1 creme brulee...
self when you receive 1 lockpick..you made in the end with 5k only a money loss of 3,5P >.> using those 5P normally for lockpicks wold net u at least 3 lockpicks if u buy them by npc...and like 4 locks, if u buy from a player for 1250g/key
even when u get a gold item...most stuff out of it isnt more worth, then what the npc pays u for it....you are only lucky when you receive something with a skin, thats highly wanted ...
receiving eternal swords out of it is really rare and no reason to sell those keys for 5Platin, especially now, where the huge boom has begun and millions of players trade all they massive amounts of balth points and tourny bonus points for keys ...
millions of players are selling now several hundreds of those keys...this means ...the offer of these keys is GIGANTIC ...the market gets flooded by these keys within hours

There are a lot of keys NOW, but only because there were a vast number of UAX players who literally could not use their stored faction, and these people all dumped their faction as soon as keys became available. For most people, faction comes very slowly so I think after this initial surge the keys will become rarer as people grind to bring their faction levels back up. Their price may well go even higher once the supply dwindles and once this ultra-rare, yet-unseen item drops for someone.

The current craze about drops it's because there were a lot of unspent faction. Now they have to start earning it again. The good part is that a lof of weapons got their ridiculous prices dropped to normal amounts.

It’s just a way to spend your balts faction if u have unlocked everything. I wish something like this was implemented a lot sooner, I think I waisted more then +5 mil faction, because I had no way of spending it…

When in reality 3 weeks from now its will be a passing comment, people will stop buying keys there prices will fall because majority is getting ale or damn creme brulees. It's 5k because the ones selling them are choosing to charge 5k. They'll drop when the buyers want to pay less...

Complaining about a 5k key price? I dont mean to sound stuck up or anything, but if you want a key, you can pay me 5k for it, or you can go get balth faction. If you dont want to pay me 5k I can open the chest, I need more monies anyway. Most of us pvp types dont have much in the way of gold.

I'm just point out that its just NOT a gold sink. Gold sinks remove money from the economy. If you pay somebody 5k for a key, that doesn't remove the money from the economy, it just moves the money to somebody else.

4-5k is worth it... if you spend like 1 mil on keys and open "the item" then you can probably profit like.... at least 50 mil lol. (remember that 2nd eternal blade sold for 80mil!?) But this time, the item will be ultra rare... since it is not dropping.

5k is justified. I will not sell them for any lower so long as people keep on buying it at that price. At the rate I'm going, I'm going to buy my monk's Elite Luxon armor without touching a single PvE farm spot. And you know what, it's about damn time that PvPers got their just deserts. Now instead of just the great folks who win HA or rock out in ATs all the time, Joe I-Luv-PvP can get some money. I've never cared for farming, nor will I ever, but I love doing RA and HA (weird combination, I know). So while I'm enjoying myself, I'm getting a secondhand payoff. Thanks, PvE'ers!

God forbid PvP-ers got some spare cash for, say, guild invites and whatnot. PvP-ers have no use for the items, but now they can make a little cash. VERY good thing imho.

If your PvP, what do you REALLY need to buy? You can make whatever you need with a little bit of effort to get the faction to unlock it.

The easier way to get a key is making 5k balthazar faction, for me is easier in comparison to make 3k gold.
I did 3 keys yesterday just playing RA, not sure how many time I played, not too much for sure, anyway in HB is even faster.
Oh! and I got an Eternal Shield.

You can rack up faction really fast in RA or doing Zaishen Challenge where you can get 2k of faction in about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, 2k is the max for Zaishen Challenge, but I understand it because it is soooo easy to get.

AT's are a good way of getting keys, you get 2.5k balth faction per game and reward points at the end depending on how many games you played, usually around 60 points, so you can get 100k worth of keys fairly easily.

When you want get now still 5P for keys.. then people have to try their luck on forums like guru or WT and other elite gw forums commerce areas... but there you have naturally to set up DL's then ever and you have to wait longer time..until you see your cash in your pocket ...and very often end up your threads with no answers and you to bump then every day up again ... what gets very quick really annoying
