anybody else abandoned what people called "co-op"
Your Lucky I Heal
i now only work with henches and heros, unless my guildies are with me, who i can trust. when i got prophicies, i always played with people in missions. but when nightfall came out, i soon started to use heros and henches only.
now im a pro at controlling my heros, now i dont take 1-3 hours makeing a group of 8... i can just set up the build on my heros and just go. i even beat urgozes with henches and heros (one real monk my friend)
so do you people play with others or go with the heros?

Whats "co-op"?
I always use heroes and henchmen on anything and everything. I dont have the patience to sit and wait for a full group of eight, then try to reason with the people who have just plain nasty builds. I ran into a ranger in Longeye's Ledge who had summon bone minions. The minions were level six.

Guildies/Friends >>> Heroes > Henches >>>>>>>> PuG.

I think of Pugging as charity work.
Mostly I just party with guildies or hench/heroes. Never do I go somewhere and try to fill a party with people as most of the time you could have finished the mission or quest by the time you have 7/8 humans in a party.

Co-op is what you do with friends and guild mates, it's a lot of fun. PUGing is something... else.

I still go with PUGs sometimes when I'm bored, they're not all that bad.

I haven't even been in a PUG since I bought Nightfall.
Everything I do is with H/H or guildies/friends.

The only time i join/make a PUG is in some of the more elite areas of the game where there isn't a guild team going out. Some areas are just too much trouble without other humans but for the most part H/H are fine, and usually better/faster than trying to PUG it.

Hmm... PUGs... when I first played this game that's about all I did, and a while into Factions. Then I got tired, started to play more and more with my guild, and I'm doing the same in this one.
I PUG a bit nowadays, usually just for the fun of where such group will go. So most of the time, it's been FoW or UW, because I know I can get lucky and make a shard or two, and get back on the money I spent (I don't really mind paying), but a group that fails right from the start will annoy me). Oh, and elite missions, along with alliance. Let's take The Deep/Urgoz; a HiDE alliance run will get us about 5 to 10 people easily, we PUG the remaining spots while making sure key people are in key spots (reliable monks, tanks/pullers) and let PUGs take care of damage with decent builds.
If I really feel like doing something and no one's available, I'll go with heroes/henchies. But I normally can get one or two people with heroes. Makes the game much more interesting; I'm a social guy, can't help it. Don't like playing solo.

I play almost exclusively with H&H, and then with Guildies. We may pick up an extra unknown person for one of the missions if there's someone asking - If that person shouts "GOGOGOGO" as soon as they've joined, they're kicked immediately - if they are friendly and happy to ping their build so we know what to expect skill/spell wise then all is good and we take them with.
I don't ever go looking for a pug now-days.
In fact - myself and my 3 Heros can basically do any part of PvE alone without even Hench, except for the higher areas.

Even when I co-op it's my show!
I hate anyone stealing my thunder!
So I tell everyone what to run and if they refuse it - I just kick the bastards out of my guild!
Well, most parts of that is true ....

I DO like being in lead of a group though, so I tend to play frontline/midline - ToPK/Urgoz puller, Deep or FoW tank. Nothing annoys me more than someone who tries to tank or pull by my side and claims to do the job better than I do. Especially when they're totally not set up for it. I remember this case in ToPK where this gal thought she could go faster than me on pulling... she over aggroed while the MM wasn't ready, which resulted in a partial wipe. Blamed me for no reason, raged at my whole team afterwards and left the game.
Partially why I don't PUG much.

I did used to PuG when I first bought the game, but when Nightfall was released I stopped mostly. Then I got into Hard Mode...and we know there's no PuGing allowed for Hard Mode (since noone wants to do it at the same time as you do). I've had my fill of Hard Mode for the time being. It's freaking lonely...just you + hench...and BORING, so now I go around mission towns helping people, for that hit-of-the-whole PuG experience. Yes, they're still as bad as they used to be, but since i have no characters needing any of the missions I don't care too much if things go wrong or we don't get masters so the frustration element isn't really there any more.
In short, if you don't need to do the mission yourself, PuGs are fun.

I haven't pugged all that much since nightfall came out. There's only a handful of missions I either always screw up on with H/H (raisu palace) or I'd rather not do alone (gate of whatever... the one with the lich and shiro).

You gotta have a really thick skin to pugs these days. Well that or you gotta be really drunk.

Whenever I go in there I get insta-invited by groups of 4-5 Dervishes who are "lf 2 monks".

But back on topic, I pug occaisonally, but not in high end or high risk missions unless I know the people I'm with.
Pugging can be great fun or a disaster, depending on what type of people you get.
Stolen Souls
I gave up on random groups...let's see....about 2 years ago...right after I started playing, around the time I made it to Lion's Arch. After that everything was henchies. When Nightfall came out, it was a huge blessing for me.

but anyway, the death of PUGs for me happened AGES ago, in Tunderhead Keep. I used to PUG everything. But, the Noob filter mission, killed it for me. I spent a week there doing nothing but trying to PUG it.. After playing it so many times and mentally noting what went wrong each time, I henched it and finished, no sweat.
I henched Factions, all of it.. After Nightfall and Heroes.. Bye Bye PUGs, for good.. Since Heroes I haven't even been in FoW.. That place was one of my fav things to do in the game too.. but, I'm gonna build up another account just so I can "borrow" heroes from the other account and do FoW again..

I went for a long while without PUGs and learned to do almost everything with H/H and/or a couple guildies. After awhile that got kind of monotonous, so nowadays if I'm at a mission that I know would be too easy on H/H (which is most of them) I'll sit around and see if anyone shoots me an invite.
cebalrai
I never group with anyone anymore. Maybe once per month. So much for this being an MMO I guess....
PUGs suck 75% of the time so decently talented people don't use them. Only less-skilled people Pug it, and since they no longer have contact with better players, Pug quality has further declined.
It's a really sad thing to happen to an MMO. PvE is mostly a 1-player game now. And since there are WAY better 1-player RPGs out there, it's hard for a lot of folks to justify playing GW. If you're going to solo it, why not play Oblivion and have a real RPG experience?

It really depends on situations for me. If I'm playing at work, during lunch break, I want things done quick and right, so I heroe/hench, or play random arenas.
On the week ends, I play support characters in PuG for the fun of it.

Most of the time I H/H my way through things or play with guildies (we know each others' playing styles very well so we make a really good team). Although once in a while I will PUG a mission or two; either because a less experienced player has asked for some help or because I want to check out a different angle on things (you'd be surprised at how much a PUG can teach you about effective and ineffective builds).
The last PUG I was in was just over a month ago when a newbie asked for help with the Nolani Academy bonus. That newbie is now a guildie and great fun to play with - just goes to show that the PUG is a good way to make friends too.

The only time I will ever PUG is if I know I am fully capable of completing a mission or quest easily with the person there.

I can't stand most PUG's tbh. When people make sense I'm more then happy to play with them,
but when they're stubborn it annoys me greatly from minute 1.
Like when I'm making teams for Tomb of Primeval Kings. I got this build I always run with
and SS necro, a para, rangers and 2 monks. It's my H/H farming build that works like a charm.
When I try and get people to play it 75% of them will whine and bicker 30 minutes before the
game starts. I had 2 of those whiners in my team yesterday. They told me the build sucked and
I should switch to regular B/P. I was getting bored after 30 minutes of whining and there were too little people
around to kick the 2 bad asses, so I indeed just switched to regular B/P. When we got in 1 of them pulled the entire floor of mobs and we died instantly.
result: 30 minutes of my life wasted on behalf of people who think they know it all, but are horrendously bad at the game.

I never PuG anymore. I go with H/H or a combination of Heroes and guildies.

Lots of threads on this...
I use Hero/Hench 90-95% of the time... it's not people's builds it's...
#1) their attitudes. No sense of fun/humor...
#2) they want a limited list of builds. You even see it in this thread.
I know sometimes you need specific skills, and you usually need a balance of casters and fighters... (and of course 2 "monks")... but I've seen a lot of variety within this be successful. E.g., we got through Forgewight no problem with an ele & hero as healers. It was a guild group, and that would have never flown as a pug (pick up group).
I mean 2 hours into the Deep, and we get pwned at one spot. Having done the deep before, you should expect to get some pwnage in there... but no, folks untangle and then the monk refuses to rez. What a waste of time. Why go through that if you don't have to.
It's sort of like driving these days... lots of jerks out there (tailgaters, speeders, aggressive drivers, and good grief who uses a turn signal anymore)

I used to H/H. Then Koss kicked me from the group because i echo flare. Now im back to PUGs
Crom The Pale
Its very hard to find people that use the exact same play style as myself. Sometimes I like to take it slow and not simply rush through and obliterate the missions/quests. I do sometimes join PUGs when I think they really need a hand and I've nothing better to do. If they let me help them, ie listen to my advise, then we have a good time and win. If they think they know it all and ignore what I sugest we usually party wipe and I map out.
Its certainly a huge shift from when I started in Prophicies where I filled my guild with people from PUG's. But back then we were all on equal footing, same point in the game and the learning curve of skills/builds. Now its impossible to find 8 people that are all equal, some are runing there very first char through the mission while others are working on there 10 or chasing a title or looking for chests or elite skill caps or farming a rare drop or just killing time till friends log and they can do something else.

Besides GW is advertised as a game you can play solo, I purchased it for that reason. I like the features GW has. I dont enjoy Oblivion.

If game was full of people who play as rc prots, dslash wars an minblast eles, i would consider pugging. if those people didnt have attitudes, i would definitelly pug.
but game is full of "pure healing" breeze monks, tanks and echo meteor shower nukers, all with price winning "friendly" attitude.
