I think Humans will reverse engineer most of the dwarf tech and asura tech or fuse them together with a little magic in the mix
Charr go with a more take what they can salvage
Norn use what leftover from dwarfs
Asura a mix of magic and tech
Sylvari are like nature and other green tech

1. Luxons already have guns... on turtle-back!
2. Golems are magically animated statues.
3. If magic is suitably prevalent, and there is no major loss of magic, then there really is no pressing need to develop technology.
4. Be it 250 years or 500 years, there may not necessarily be any great advancement - look at how little technology advanced from, say, 10000BC to 9500BC... It's only in the last 100 years that we saw a lot of technological advancement, but we didn't have magic to do it all for us, either.

I don't find Gun as Technology.
And BTW, Lightningng is Eletricity XP.
And whats wrong if we add some Technology in GW?
As long it is not Future Sci-Fi Technology.
Guns(Cannons), Steam/Magic Powered-Robots(Golems) are all Good^^!
And if you would add a Gunner Class, don't make it like a Ranger.
Like Rangers are based on Nature Rituals, Pets and Conditions(Spiker/Conditioner).
While Gunners are more of the AoE Ranged Attackers, Bombs, Guns and etc(AoE Spiker).

We definitely need magic-powered giant robots like Gundam/Battlemechs
to combat the giant dragons in GW2....Or, not!

you all forgot the first thing Vekk says upon arrival at EOTN, something very advance had build Eye of the North (don't remember the exact word), that not even the Asurian can achieve. hence i am thinking it could be the work of 1) the seer, 2) the mursaat 3) chronomancer brought something from another time or 4) something futuristic
that is why after looking at some of the concept art pages i've come to think about this. shameless self promotion :P

guns ftw... screw magic, smite monks using boom sticks would be sweet.

If they haven't come up with a machine that makes tea by the time GW2 starts, no other Tyrian technological advancements matter IMO

The concept of the chronomancer was for Utopia, not GW:EN. |
If they have guns, it'll be similar to the way they did it in Final Fantasy. The guns fit in well with that genre with the later games so I think it'll be fine in this series as well.

I would like a mesmer with a mask, longcoat, cane and pistol.
That would be neat.
If there are guns I doubt we could do super moves with them.
They'd probably just be like swinging a wand only with pulling a trigger animation.

P.S. Magic will trump primitive tech, unless they invent antiseptics. Medical advancement through warfare! (Yes, I know antiseptics were more of a peace-time development, but technology was pushed forward more by war than peace.)

I am sure the Asura's have some kind of atomic bomb for their crazy genocide plans in Gw2.

But technology can give similar kind of power to anyone who can aim and press button, and can be mass produced.
Acessibility destines technology to win in most of fantasy worlds, regardless of magic potence. (unless special measures like bans are takes to keep status quo)

I usually stay out of these things but...

Crossbows? Fine
Rifles? No
Seige Cannons? Fine
Grenade Launchers? No
Small grenade like bombs? Sure..already have barrels of explosive powder
C4 type or other high end explosives? No
Not saying something advanced can't work within GW, but it may break the feel of the game if something like too advanced is added.

2 words.
Laser eyes
Guild Wars 2 could use laser eyes.
^ That was 6 words and a number, but it does not count as it wasn't intended to be the message I was building up to with the '2 words' statement.

There's no reason that laser eyes can't be magical in nature.

Come to think of it, if a fantasy society (I am talking society, not WORLD) needs to rely on technology more than magic then they must be pretty crappy or lazy magicians.
Just my opinion.

When I saw the title for this thread, and i'm sorry for hijacking it... but I immediately thought of Tech as in, the graphical interface, and how the Guild Wars engine will handle the newest techs in video cards.
Again, i'm sorry for the hijack.. but I hope Gaile will send this off to the programmers.
In short, I hope GWs 2 will utilize at least a few of the newest techs out on the market. Indeed, not everyone will have a high-end system that will be able to handle these techs. But for those who do have these high-end systems, please allow us to turn on/off, tweak, or otherwise set the power like always.
Thank you, and you may continue to talk about the in-game techs, like muskets, and magiks.

- Guild Wars 2, I hope, will have active day/night cycle.
- I hope Guild Wars 2 will have at least 1024, if not 2048mb sized texture maps.
- I hope Guild Wars 2 will have a much more appealing to look at envirenments. (While NF, then GWEN have some very nivce sceneary. Face it, Proph, and Factions are very behind the times, and look very bland. )
- I hope GWs 2 will have Dynamic shadows, and highly Dynamic lighting effects. AKA, "Soft Shadows"
- I hope GWs2 will have full Bloom style effects built into the engine. (Goes with fully dynamic, and realistic lights.) AKA - full HDR
- I hope GWs 2 will have such things liek Soft particles (for better fire, and other effects.)
- I hope GWs 2 will have better water rendering. (Although, looking at a few areas of GWEN, you guys do it rather nicely already.
- And, lastly, although it'll be more of.. stretch.. interactive vegatation?? D: That'll probably be a big no-no.. but pretty please with suger on top??

yay Gunman ftw

ok to an extent i can agree with firearms in the future becoming prevelant in the GW universe, however there shoudl be some notes on this.
In our own history guns took a hell of a long time to be perfected. Basically the first usage of them for a few hunderd years was awful. The were difficutl to aim, cumbersome to use, slow, and broke easily. Bows were much faster and far more accurate than guns. So while i could see them being intorudced to GW I cant see them as being as good a weapon as the bow in the timeframe.

Guys, do you even imagin this?
Mending + Machine Gun = OWNED
xD
No, seriously, I don't really think they will add such things like fire weapons.
Of course there will be more technological things around the world, but always talking about "Golems" and magical things.

Blah we already have projectiles
its called Catapults, and Kournan seiges =P
In 200/250 years the asuran could make a gun, but for what?
There could be a quest called "Technologies Dawn"
Where an asuran starts thinking about Gun Powder, to fight off the dragons.
You could help him start the first gun (Which should be super dee duper shitty)
he tries to fire it, and it kills him (since early guns sometimes killed the user).
Thats how it should be, and since he was lets say an asuran hermit, he had no one to pass his research notes onto.

Anything but guns. ANYTHING. If they introduce firearms, there is no way I'll but the game. It's ridiculous, in my opinion, to add guns to a game like this. Other technology, sure. But not guns.

I think in GW2, more mechanically advanced weaponry should be introduced such as flails, crossbows, maces, etc etc... (Basically the medieval stuff we don't have in game yet) I do believe how ever, hand held guns are pushing it a bit. If GW introduces say... muskets?, that wouldn't really fit with the over all style of the game. To avoid this Anet would probably do that cliche ugly generic wide end "boom stick" crappy gun design (See WoW - http://wow.allakhazam.com/images/fas...eledMusket.JPG ). So what I'm trying to say is Anet really wants muskets, they better have a unique concept for them and not some ugly rehash.
My one rule is that nothing should be hand held that looks too realistic (this is a fantasy game after all). This does not mean how ever, the GW universe isn't advanced enough for other modern warfare devices and engines. We already have siege turtles, so who's to say in 200 years Canthans and Krytans can't have cannons mounted in steel plate covers on wheels like a tank? Or even some sort of flying device? All of this however fits within Canthan culture much better, seeing as they're the imperial china of GW.

BTW just because it is around 200 years later does not mean there if any technological or magical progress.
Look for example the dark ages, progress stalled. Compare that to the mere sixty years it took us to advance from the wright brothers to the moon.
Progress is extremely varied I wouldn't be surprised if nothing tech or magical changed in GW2. Perhaps the Asura gate system improves magic, but I actually think tech would have gone backwards with the near end of the human race and civilization and all.... =)
Face it in GW2 the Human race is in decline. >_<....damit Ascalon...plus I prefer the tech stay where it is now.
