Look for example the dark ages, progress stalled. Compare that to the mere sixty years it took us to advance from the wright brothers to the moon.

Progress is extremely varied I wouldn't be surprised if nothing tech or magical changed in GW2. Perhaps the Asura gate system improves magic, but I actually think tech would have gone backwards with the near end of the human race and civilization and all.... =)

Face it in GW2 the Human race is in decline. >_<....damit Ascalon...plus I prefer the tech stay where it is now.
The dark ages happened in Europe, China was still making advancements all the way in the far east. If ya catch my drift *cough cough* tyria = europe cantha = china GW2 Expansion *cough cough*

or the opposite, the introduction of the Asuran to Ascalonians, the ascendancy of the Dwarves, all at a time when rebuilding and adaptation is key could (would) massively impact Tyria tech/culture wise.

Cantha on the other hand retreats into the dark ages , cutting itself off the world, forced to mend its wounds while absorbing the fact that their entire existence is directed by magical and mystical beings. We can only imagine what kind of mystical/religious turnabout that would give.

what's wrong with WoW? (they got machines, sure but i mean, at least they stayed their ground. They didn't go "hey you know what? We're adding a FPS in WoW just to annoying the hell out of players cause RPG is never meant to be played as a FPS)
