do you take the time to appreciate the graphics?
tonyh
Im posting this in pve because i doubt anyone in pvp does
i myself tend to just concentrate on killing stuff and dont really notice the graphics, although i should since gw has excellent graphics
what do you all do to appreciate the graphics? like go into first person view or just scroll around more
or do you not

Not as often as I should, but I've stopped cold and stared admiringly at a number of vistas in this game. The art design is just really well above par for a game of this type. Now and again I'll find myself commenting to guildies what a damn pretty game it really is.

Only when I see something to appreciate. I always stop to appreciate armor in outposts, but because it's not mine, it's not shown in high quality... disappointing.
Olim Chill
If I'm not in a rush I'll play around with the views, do screenshots, and just take in the scenery. Lots of interesting stuff to see, no doubt.

When I first started the game I was focused on how it worked. The first time that I actually stopped and looked at the view was in the jungle. With waterfalls and green mountains in the background, it was very nice looking.
I do take some time now to look around and enjoy the scenery.

Why yes, yes I do!
It's just freaking amazing what the guys and gals pulled off on such low system requirements! Most places look insanely amazing - and I am often left questioning (and hoping!) that the places are inspired on real life places so that once, when I am all grown up, I can visit them!
I am a HUGE fan on the whole Factions scenery and I really hope there is a Shing Jea-ish place out there somewhere!

Shadow Spirit
When I got a new computer recently that could run them at the highest settings, I really did start to appreciate them.
Even zone entry portals look amazing to me now.

I do occasionally, especially in Eye of the North. A lot of the graphic designs in there are amazing. Makes the real world look like a heaping pile of garbage. Flowing trees in the breeze full of life in Guild Wars...streets with rape, murder and litter in cities. Yeah, I like Guild Wars. It's prettier.
Arkantos
I would, if my computer didn't suck. I have to run on low settings.
Paddywhack
I absolutely do notice the great graphics! The art design and the texture work is very good in this game. I am impressed that it looks so good for a 2nd generation MMO. The minimal polys and the simulated "bloom" effect really help keep everything within very low system requirements yet keep it looking good.

Gwen is jaw dropping - a real work of art and the music is beautiful

Always. Ever since the Elementalist tower in pre-Searing, my desktop wallpaper has been some sort of a Guild Wars screenshot
mazey vorstagg
I love the scenery. i have a huge portfolio of screen shots, some of which are simply amazing.

Well you know what they say, if it was a woman I would... well, you know the saying.
Batou of Nine
I always did. I absolutely love the graphics in this game which was also one of the original reasons i got the game. It still is a stand out game compared to even all the new DX10 games and is incredible when run in very high specs...
I used to have literally hundreds and hundreds of screenshots of environments and characters. Sadly, i lost that all when i got a new PC; i forgot to carry over the screenshots folder before wiping my old harddrive clean... boo!
With my new rig tho, i can enjoy the graphics even more, running all specs at max... yummy! Atm, i'm actually kind of taking a hiatus from GW, but after only about a month i am starting to crave the impressive details of GW graphics.
My appreciation of GW graphics is/was often. Even mid battle i would notice certain environmental details, and after battle go to investigate more. I love finding picturesque locations like looking out from hills and cliffs onto sprawling landscapes. It's almost like getting to see all parts of the world without ever leaving my home (not leaving home because of limitations on money and time, of course )
I can't wait to start playing again to collect hundreds more screenshots again.
Hmm, maybe ill log on tonight.
cheers.

Except for monster graphics, not a fan.

Even with low graphics though it still looks nice. In QW:EN I love looking out onto Drakkar Lake from the hills to the north of it whenver I go out there.

Well my computer doesn't have the best graphics card, but then again my graphics for guild wars are not too bad. It really depends, the graphics look better in some spots then others, lighting also helps a lot.

Graphics??? What graphics??
Okay in all honesty everyonce in awhile I do. Mainly when I am vanquishing or explorering. Lots of cool areas to look at.

I'm not intrigued by something so much that it's pretty but interesting. Take the tree in Drakker Lake for example. THAT I love, it reminds me of Zelda for some reason.
But aside from that, there just hasn't been too much "interesting" stuff. Sure it looks pretty, but not intriguing. Just me talking, though.

getting out of the station in gwen...just take it in - beautiful

Some times.
I mostly stop to enjoy waterworks, waterfall, anything with water I stop and enjoy.
Also a lot of the statues and mural I enjoy.

My computer is not good so I can't say much, but its better than WoW when I did the WoW trial!
Death By Ketchup
nope, but then I'm stuck with a 9 year old vid card that doesn't even meet GW min requirments, so the graphics kinda suck for me.
Darkobra
Pre-searing. Always worth taking a second look at.
Tender Wolf
Yep! I'm addicted to screenshots so I'm always looking for the great graphics part of the game to take some. When I'm concentrating I don't notice as much, but...yeah. Lots of details and things, Anet does a great job.
iridescentfyre
I took time to appreciate the graphics two years ago. By late-2007 standards, they're not really all that impressive anymore.

Here's one guy hoping they don't go too crazy for GW2 because I'm plenty happy with the graphics already.
So, yes, I do spend a lot of time admiring the graphics because there's a lot of good design work in this game.
Dante the Warlord
I don't know why but i only notice places with a waterfall or lava.... not sure why. But i always take pics then.
Volitar
Yes, I take the time to notice all the beautiful sights in Guild Wars. There are some really great places to see in all three campaigns. I'll never forget my first time seeing the beach in Gates of Kryta. A really pretty sight.
TaCktiX
Maxed graphics 24/7. All of it's beautiful.
Cathode_Reborn
Torment Realm areas of nf look kinda cool.
EotN definitely looks the best when it comes to graphics.....sucks that pretty much every dungeon has reskin rooms. If I remember right, anet was supposed to update the graphics for older campaigns....i doubt that'll ever happen though.
that's true

I do the exact same thing.. i guess we are just distracted by shiny things
Redfeather1975
I'm not particularly amazed with guild wars graphics engine, apart from the capes and shadows working on low end systems (how on earth they did that I don't know), however I think they have a group of really strong artists working on level design. The levels can look very detailed and unique for an engine that, as far as I can tell doesn't use high-res polys, displacement mapping and all that jazz. They made magic out of mud.
