Flamed for being nice?
Moral55
Ever been nice or had a perfectly fine purple or high req gold turned down
for being crap.
Despite them calling out for an hour that they wanted such an item?

People are miserable and skeptical. You try doing something nice and you just get insulted most of the time. People aren't always specific in what they want and get grumpy that others can't read their minds - good for a laugh at least.

I had players running away from me when I try to give away low level greens in shing jea to low level characters, one of them even said no before I even ask cos they seen me asking someone else lol... I finally sold it for 35 to the merchant.

i certainly feel that people need to understand that standing there for 2 hours saying 'LEIK OMG WTB A FIEEERY DRAGON SWERD 200000K' and then saying 'OMFG GO AWAY NOOB' when i say "you realise its only worth like 10k, right?". another thing, when someone adds "pm offers please" at the end of a WTS message, DONT PM THEM SAYING HOW MUCH.

To OP: See "Good Deeds" thread and "Random Acts" thread.
This community isn't worth the spit it takes to clean them off with.

Kidding! =O Anyway... either it's my experience or someone else's and I just don't remember, but either I or someone else tried helping someone with a noobish build, only to be flamed. Grr.
BigDave
I used to hand out any unwanted golds/purples/greens for free in some of the newbie areas to help give the new guys a leg up. I'd get maybe 5-10 whispers all at once and obviously i can only answer one at a time. The number of times i was called a scammer, cheater, liar, etc... was unbelievable, just because i didn't reply to their message within 5 seconds. Got fed up with it after a few times so now i just put things in either a general sale here or just merch it.
As usual the few ignorant halfwits spoil it for the many good guys out there.
Oh and yes, i have had it several times when i've answered a msg in trade chat only to be turned down and called a noob or some such. Even though i rarely sell items for their full value i always seem to find those cheeky little bastards who try and haggle you so low you end up giving them gold. Can't stand em.

Flamed for being nice? Welcome to my family life.
Oh wait nevermind, this is about GW. There's always someone who doesn't know how to be gracious. I don't know why people don't just say "no thank you".
And yeah, I've gotten the flood of messages where people flip out that you aren't answering. Or just they open chat windows and don't bother talking to you at all.

Or folks that maybe DO know the market prices and simply wish to ignore them in favor of haggling, talking to people, and coming to a mutually agreeable deal likewise don't deserve to participate in the player market?
Attitudes like yours make me laugh.
Merry Christmas.

Today I was in the Astralarium and someone was trying to sell an unid grape for 600g. I asked to see it and it was a req8 Axe with 6-24 dmg. After I told him unid grapes aren't worth anything he told me that he'd sold plenty of them before. *lol* He seemed to get the idea that I was accusing him of being a cheat but I was just letting him know. *shrug* Whatever. Would you rather have someone give you honest advice in a whisper or call you a noob in local chat?

just about when factions came out, I did weekly item give aways in LA. I would spam free stuff at storage, and i would give you an item for whatever profession you had. I cant tell you the number of times i got someone whisper me and say...."can i have a sword instead?" or "this is what you are giving me?" Its sad really. I stopped that after the 3rd week :P

I only give stuff away to guildies and friends. If you try to give decent things to a newbie, you end up with greedy bastards just wanting to get stuff for their existing characters without paying for it, or get reported.

Hence why i don't bother with the majority of the GW community.

I saw some people talking about people WTS and not saying an amount, but asking for offers.
They may not be intentionally doing it, but it's often a tactic used to get ignorant people who want the item to overbid. Especially if the item's price has dropped recently.
It's something the sleaziest of the sleazy used car salesmen do.
Yeah, so whether the seller is doing that on purpose or not, in that situation if you want the item, you underbid by ALOT.
Then watch the drama unfold.

I have had people act suspicious of my motives, but I have never been flamed for being nice to someone.
No, wait. I have, but not by the person I was being nice to. It was some other dingleberry that was being an asshat to the person I was nice to.
If you're not part of the solution......

I showed this dude this req9 +5e +20enchants, 20/16 chaos axe I had cuz he was wielding one. He completely went nuts on me saying stuff like no one cares about your stuff your noob, it isn't enough perfect and blah blah blah. I thought he would happy that he had a person in the party that also admired chaos axes but I was wrong :S

The merchant never flamed me for selling him stuff. There is no point in giving out crappy weapons anymore now that you can buy a max item and put perfect mods on it for 5-25k, depending on what weapon you use. Why would I want a bad item when I can get a good one just as easily? Sure it might be appriciated when you could sell max white items for 1k and good skinned whites for 5k, but those days are gone.

I used to like giving away free dyes(except black )in LA , long before NF ,
and mostly people only need 1 or 2 and will thank me or offer me something for them. But after year 2007 , the game starting to fill with "more" kids , most of them will ask " how many you have ?" " can i have some more ,my friends need them "
and some treat me as scam( how do i scam when things are free ),and some after getting my stuff , will pm me once in a while for more dyes ( how ungrateful and greedy they are , which i'll put them in ignore list) or some after getting my stuff yelled out "lol noobs"( which i dont understand how giving free stuffs is noob ?) and bla bla bla ( it will take me forever to talk bout it )

People are very paranoid, and many scams start off as a "free gift" or "goodwill". Regardless, I applaud those of you who are genuinely nice, and perhaps a few more truthful experiences will help stem the tide of paranoia.

I gave away some of my gold Monk items this morning. The three Monks who accepted them were quite happy to receive them.
Be honest, courteous and explain just how and why you're trading an item and you shouldn't have any problems. No shady deals, no "Ooh, can I see it outside?" tricks.
