Festival Hat idea :)
MagmaRed
They wouldn't be available to PvP characters, but they would be allowed in PvP unless they found another way to prevent that. Although I can see that some of them may be annoying for PvP, none of them would change balance in any way. Eye of the North already offers head armor that looks the same for every class, and it hasn't caused any problems. And Chaos Gloves are about the most obnoxious look for distraction, and it hasn't caused problems either.

In case you can't tell, I like this idea quite a bit.
People who are saying no because a lot of them look silly - yeah, really not a valid response, I'd say. You see people walking around in Chaos Gloves and Masks of the Mo Zing all the time, and I'd say that looks far more ridiculous. Or some of the armor combos I see - ye gods, get it away.

I prefer the hats being nothing more than a silly little novelty for the festivals. If you could use things like the Snowman hat inplace of regular armour, people would be wearing them all the time, instead of just at the festivals, and they'd lose a lot of their charm, IMO.
|
You dont grasp how much this amuses me, you see, the thing is my snowman hat never comes off regardless of the place. I DO wear it all the time, and its one of the most charming things I own
I sign this 100%
Tenebrae
Sure why not , in fact some of them look better than some headgear we have now .
IntrospectivePirate
i think festival hats should probably stay as they are. they are a novelty associated with the festival event. they should be as cheap as possible so everyone can enjoy them. Yes even the nublings we frown upon. For this reason they must then not be a max armor head piece.

Bumping because this is the best idea ever to be suggested. And I'm not biased one bit about that. ;p
Spookii
I like the idea. There are some cool hats out there! Eh...not really including the Rudolph thing and the Grentch Ears from last year. May-gur phail.

I still like it.

Its silly enough in the snowball ATs, we don't need that year round.

Bumping to keep this on page one until Wintersday is past us. Doubt it will happen after all this time, but I do believe it is possible, and fairly easy to do. And since Anet has hinted at new things for Halloween and Wintersday....
Shayne Hawke
That's going to be a lot of bumping.

As I've said in the past, I'd love to see this happen. But honestly, I don't see it occurring (also, you may have better luck of the Live Team seeing this if it was on the official wiki's feedback page)

I'd love to be able to wear my Imperial Dragon Mask as armor. I use it when I'm in ninja-mode on my mesmer. Being able to actually make it useful would be icing on the cake.
Do want, plzkthx.

Yes, but I don't think they should be allowed in pvp, as that can probably be distracting. R6 lfg for pumpkinway lol.

I thinks the headpieces should cost more as a penalty, but I don't have a problem with the obnoxious headgear. (glares at chaos gloves+dread masks)

Pumpkins look great with Kurzik warrior armor.
It's like a dullahan or something like that, XD.

You made it so that it isn't cheap at all so people wouldn't be changing it every min and balanced too so that there aren't lvl 1's running around with max armor
(though that's what the droks run is for)

Excellent and well thought out idea!
I don't see how making these things wearable while playing is any different from the EoTN headpieces. I imagine a fair bit of work goes into making the festival hats it'd be nice if they were given some usefulness and not just sitting in limbo with the festival hat creator taking up server space for a relatively trivial item.

some festival hats are fun to wear all the time! Armor value would be nice for when wearing during AB and the like.

I know many people don't like many of the festival hats. I understand what personal opinion is. However, I know that many people don't like the current armor sets as well, or the common armors. Chaos Gloves on anything but a Mesmer annoys me because I don't like it covering the entire forearm. Mask of Mo Zing on 90% of the classes/armor combos also looks dumb to me. So I am simply looking for a way to make use of some of what I find to be the nicest armor designs. These are 4 pictures of some armor pieces I would use if they actually gave me armor, and not just the look.
I know several people would live to use their Ancient Rit armor with a Mummy Mask, etc. and don't see this as being a problem, or hard to do. But I'm guessing about the difficulty as I'm not a programmer.

I "/sign" for this.
Though, to point out a few things...
You mean, like everyone wears armor? (And the numerous people wearing Chaos Gloves?)
I can't believe that you would make a connection like that.
As Arkantos simply put it:
+1 +1 +1 +1 +1.
Oh, and for Magma - I do like the example screenshot you included. The characters look awesome.

If want to wear the hat then wear it. They are party time items... hell would you go outside with a halloween mask on all the time irl? Erm nope. Have zero armor if want to wear it. Punishment enough I say. |

Real armour headpieces for max defense cost 1k minimum. I refuse to pay that for a hat I will wear on Holidays only for an event and then throw away after that event, and it doesnt make sense to make it cheaper so no one would buy the real armour piece instead. Nor do I want to save it because of the cost just to have it sit there all year taking up valuable inventory slots.
As you are so fond of telling everyone else on the threads, Magma, when they have ideas you dont care about.... Get over it. Its the way it is and you will just have to deal with it.

New NPC, similar to the Festival Hats guy that lets you make the hats for any character. For a fee, and crafting materials, he can turn a Festival Hat you already own, into a piece of armor.
3) Armor - same as hero armor, based on class and level of character.
People who don't want an armor version, pay nothing, and have the same thing they always have had.
Back OT. I'm thinking that if they actually implement this, it would probably be around wintersday, since the live team has been spending their time on the halloween quests.

Yup, my bad. seems i already signed this once a long time ago anyway. guess thats what happens when an idea keeps getting bumped by the same person for almost two years.... you forget.

Just guessing , if this would be implemented , would there be a chance of getting old festival hats for ppl that couldnt get them/joined game recently ?. Thats something to consider imo.
Shayne Hawke
Totally separate issue. I'd take that up in a different thread if you wanted to discuss it.
MagmaRed
Personally, I'd love to get a Jester's Cap and a Witch's Hat.... but I missed getting them. I understand the idea of not giving them out to people not at the event though, so can deal with not having them. If they did make an option to get old masks, I'd hope it was seperate from the idea I am suggesting here.
Jaskaran
/signed perfect idea and i would love to wear my ice crown with glacial gauntlets and armor dyed blue...

/signed if there's a way to get older hats that are no longer available. Since most of the ones I'd like to wear as armour, are from before I played Guild Wars.
The idea that people who missed events or joined the game more recently shouldn't be able to get the hats is an incredibly bitter, spiteful, and stupid one.
