and yes this is ridiculous to have a chance to get a mini pet in only 12 days with a drop rate like 0.001%

DEAR ANET...

I just recently found out that there is a new item in game that is worth a lot of money. Unfortunately I havent been able to acquire it yet due to the fact it wasn't discovered until later on in the actual event. Please allow me more time to farm it so I can become insta-rich overnight and be able to buy everything that I dont need in the game. It isnt fair that someone else found it and I didnt.

Sooo they added it last year when the quest didn't exist and Wintersday Chest didn't exist? Not to mention that GW:EN wasn't out so the explorable that the quest is being done in didn't exist.

I think they meant last calendar year - Like Dec 21, 2007.

Though you got to wonder if there was a problem with the coding that it did not drop until 2008 had begun.

And on topic, I don't understand why is everyone whining about that bear. It's uber rare, so what? Let it stay that way, at least it will be a bit more special then everything else in this game that can be farmed to death. I don't feel bad for not having it, and I feel happy that at least someone got it.

Wintersday was extended last year due to the earthquake in taiwan, so anet extended the event to allow the taiwanese players to expierence the holiday event.

that isn't the point of the complaints. Let's say you made 40 runs. At 5 drops each that is 200 chances at the bear. It is were falling at a rate of 1 in 200 that would be too high of a drop rate for it to be special. I don't think most of us are complaining just because we personally did not get the bear. If that were the complaint we would be saying, "just put it in our inventory" instead of asking for higher drop rate or more chances.

The complaint is that the odds are ridiculously low. no casino would put the payout on a machine this low and expect anyone to play for more than a few hours. It is why lotteries offer lesser prizes along side the big jackpot. It is fun playing with the hopes you might get the bear, even if you never do actually get it. It is painful playing knowing with almost absolute certainty that you won't.

Did you evet stop to think there might be poeple who acctually want the mini for it being cute? I show off my Mini Moa because i acctually had fun getting it, and i do ahve rarer pets but they mean nothing. I have all the items i want in gw including high end weapons and armor. I would love to get this mini and not because of its rarity i could care less if every wammo in the game got one. Make it fun to aquire, just like the Moa Quest. I and loads of other people want the mini for what it is not for what its worth. And if people want a new mini to collect make ugly minis such as kanaxai, oni, etc uber rare.

Well I wish I had known about the mini earlier, but it's my own fault for ignoring the Strength of Snow quest for the entire event. Yeah, I looked at it when the rift warden appeared. I remembered having fun last year exploring a deserted UW after killing a few grenchies, so I looked at the quest offerings again when the Warden appeared.

I saw the 2 new quests and tried out both of them. My performance on the Straight to the Heart quest was horrible and I abandoned it. I tried the Strength of Snow quest a few times because others said it was a good farm run, but I always died on the last waves so again I ignored it and went back to gathering gifts for Scrappy Jim.

Like the rest of you, I sat up and took notice yesterday when the polar bear was discovered. I raced home after work and spent several hours in the snowman lair killing grenchies. (Yeah, nice trick there at the end. Say hi to Freezie. Wish him luck killing the grenchies. Go sit by the door and spend 5 minutes catching up on the ever growing polar bear thread.)

I didn't get a mini, but I can't complain. That quest really is a nice farm run. I now have enough nog to boost my drunk title from 800 minutes to around 1300 minutes and enough candy canes to survive any vanquishing trip with ease.

I'm not giving up yet though. I left Scarlet camped in the quest and came to work. If the snow is still falling in Tyria tonight I'll still be there farming nog and hoping for a bear and I'll stay until the new build message spam eventually kicks me off the server.

Gaile if you're reading this, I'd like to add my voice to the others. Please add the bear to the Snowman dungeon chest at the current drop rate. Since this chest only drops 1 item (or 2 in HM) plus a Snowman summoner, it would still be ultra rare, but at least there is hope to get one.

Collecting minipets should not be linked to rarity....it's a game of collecting and earning. The hall gives the opportunity to get a head start in guild wars 2. There is no need to influence the market. 1000+ ecto's for items, minipets is no need at all.

Vizu's, panda's, polar bears should be part of chest drops or even third year anniversary presents.

As stated on the guild wars website last year due to the defeat of dwayna wintersday was extended. So who won this year?

If grenth then accordingly to the past wintersday should be extended as a reward to all of us. Keep to the plot arenanet.

Once again - Wintersday was extended because of the Real World earthquake in Taiwan. The "grenth won" thing was a way to incorporate the decision into the game lore.

Well, I went on a 3-week-long vacation that started before the wintersday festivities and I just got back yesterday...I expected the event to be over but yesterday I got to see the towns decorated, play a couple of snowball fights, and do a few quests.

So I'd be really happy if I have a few more days to enjoy, yes, though I know it will end when it ends and hey, I had a great vacation so I'm not going to complain.

Wintersday is like having the family over for dinner. Beforehand, you remember the good times, the tradition, and its all cheery. Then they come over for the week and everyone has a good time leading up to it, but it starts wearing you out, every tradition is forced, alchohol gets copiously consumed, some arguments happen, your house gets cramped, then everyone gets presents, a great meal, maybe some minor confusion and a revelation, then everyone heads home, takes a deep breath, relieved that your house is yours again, and then miss it all over again for another year.

Would like more shots at the bear, but am tired of the snow...and also did that mish enough times last nite to call it good. (tons of treasure, i ended last nite by opening like 92 wintersday gifts, I think I got like 4 during the whole rest of the event + C.C. Bow)

If its still there tonite, I'l hit the mish again (like i should be in a big rush to go back to grinding lightbringer for barely any treasure) if not, back to grinding something else.

And yet there are SEVERAL items in the game that have these same drop similarities. They are called RARE drops. Please feel free to follow this link if youre having trouble figuring out the deffinition of the word "RARE" - www.m-w.com

Every item in the game when ititially released was and in some cases still is considered a rare drop due to the fact of you almost never getting one. The ghostly hero has approximately the same drop rate as that damned bear.

congratulations, youre one of the few people in this game that doesn't think in a dollar amount. And while I applaud you, if you care to go look up the other thread, while maybe 1/3 of the comments were directed at it being "cute" which i will admit it is one of the better looking miniatures, the other 2/3 and almost EVERYWHERE you see one for sale will tell you otherwise.

So forgive me for making a general statement directed towards the majority of the complaints about the damned bear.

umm...... they did. Last year when it happened. They had a huge banner on their website asking players from all over the world to donate wintersday presents and such for the taiwan event finale so the taiwanese players could get something from this event as well. I personally remember handing over a stack of unopened wintersday presents to a GM in kamadahn american 1 last year.

The lore of grenth winning and it being prolonged is just a myth. The same as groundhog's day. There never has been any sort of proof in linking it to have happened, but yet what is celebrated every feb. 2nd in the us?

dear Anet, put in another way for us to get the damn polar bear, it will match the one my ranger currently has, along with the white armour, and the name (miss polar) so FFS put it in the chest of wintersday past, or give it to us for 3rd year. or hell make it extremely common, then i won't have to worry about competing with noobs for a pet (my celestial pig "oink" accompanies me in tyria, the mini moa "noir", and gwen (that damn firey little girl, pew pew oh noes my town))

make it common, make it so everyone has one, give it to all the players, at this point nobody cares about rarity (except the people who have it, well and the people looking to make a quick plat)

we want the mini, it's probably one of the top 8 skins in the game (wtf is the island guardian p.o.s. sold that) along with the lich, gwen, mini moa, ghostly, and djinn.

I didn't init the thread because I didn't get a Polar Bear (although of course I'd love one with a bow). I honestly wasn't able to play from the start of the event until yesterday. I love snow, and chasing presents, and the quests, and snowball fights, and farmin' for shards for wintersday presents.. nothing better than opening wintersday presents!

I enjoy the event and the variety it brings and so thought I'd see what happened if I petitioned.

I'm surprised so many don't want to continue the event given how many more people have been playing since it started. It's nice to have so many people on GW!
