They're definitely getting bolder. I don't visit PvP areas as I only PvE, so this does not just affect the Great Temple of Balthazar. On Sunday when I was vanquishing an area in Ascalon, about an hour or so into it, I get a random whisper from someone called Asdf Fdsa [note: I know we're not allowed to give names, but it's a gold seller and they have no rights] adverstising a gold selling site. I figured it was just random so took a screenshot with intent to report it later.
Later on the same day I'm out vanquishing an area in the Northern Shiverpeaks and the same person whispers me again with the exact same message. Again, I had been in the area for around an hour and not been at any outposts recently.
After the second time I got the message I added them to the ignore list, but the fact that I received the same message from the same name makes me think they're just collating names from somewhere and hitting a macro to whisper them all the advertisement, just like telemarketing machines.
and no, I've not had any dealings with gold sellers other than reporting them when I see them advertise at outposts.
While the gold sellers will always be around, the matter has just gotten out of hand now. They're spreading through the game more and more each day and Anet seems to be doing nothing to try to stop them.
Compare this with something like FFXI where they're banning 10-20 thousand people every few months for violating the EULA. They actively search for gold sellers and the like and try to keep the game clear from them (although it's impossible, at least they're making an effort).
Anet don't even pretend to do anything about gold sellers. There is no reassurance to the GW community that anything is being done or going to be done. This leads us all to believe that it's only going to get worse.

They could put banbots against spambots:
- NPC detects someone repeating a line or speaking alone, or too much time without being answered, or someone that is being ignored way too much.
- NPC sends a whisper: "This is the automated bot prevention system. Please make this addition:" & "random_number[0..9]" & "+" & random_number[0..9] "and answer just the numeric without anything else."
- If bots can't read lines onscreen, then this should work.
Also 'alarms' when somone is ignored way too much for being normal.

Like it has been said before, it is not only at the temple but in PVE parts of the world. Gold sellers might have gotten our ign's here or another site, or they are trapping names in game with a program.

Ok, my ignore list is pretty much filled with blocked "gold selling bots". Worst is that now they spam whisper you then hop district so the report system is well, useless, why hasn't Anet look into this matter yet

The amazing thing is that they are somehow able to avoid detection.
I was reading on another thread that when you report them they send the report with the name of the last person that they whispered. I didn't see that happen myself when I reported so I don't know if that's what's going on or what.

all ive been doing is keep taking out a gold seller gibberish name and replacing it with another on the VERY limited ignore list.
imo. Anet should eventually give us a bigger or at least equal that of our capped friend's list

Got a pm from some bot today in Great Temple Of Balthazar Intl. about buying gold on somegoldsite.com. Then went about my business. I heard many of these gold sellers just use trial accounts. Could be the reason why so many of them exist and why the problem is hard to combat.

I absolutely hate spammers in ascalon post mainly but I have seen pre and they just go on about guild wars gold deals. Their accounts need a good serving of the ban hammer.

In a game where you have no ingame police like GW you are going to get this type of riffraff. Goto WOW or EQ or many of the other "pay to play games" and you won't find this type of harassment for very long. I remember in EQ I could report someone an a guide would show up within minutes and the culprit banned on the spot. I remember getting two druid characters banned on the spot for pulling high level spectres on lowbies while the druids were "invisible". It was sooooooo funny when the Guide/GM arrived INVISIBLE herself (I had see invisible skill on ) She got up on a high peak and watched them for a few minutes and then POOF they were gone and gone for good as I put people I report in my friends list to see if they get to come back or how long they are gone (do it in GWs also). Those two never came back. hahahah

Removing the whisper would eliminate the point of having your friends try out the game...however, if it has to be done, so be it. You could also restrict them from using the trade channel.

Spent a half hour in Kamadan selling stuff, got around 6 PMs from a bot gold seller (typical Zxd Sdf type name)...I whinged in chat about #@!$ bots, seems everyone was annoyed as hell. 1 girl was having that wrong reoprt thing. She said she /report the bot, it entered a report for another player not the bot
