Aurora Glade HM HH - Need Tips
Nighthawkeye
I am a Sin and trying to finish the Prophecies mish with HH and have really run into a snag here with the crystal attunement.
Started with an Ursan build and 3necs, plus the mes and ranger hench. Didn't work.
Then dropped the SS nec for a BHA/el with Frozen Burst as a snare. No dice there either.
Keep getting a runner through and party wiped before I can kill him.
Suggestions?
Thanks.

Afaik if you have good heroes then you should have them (henchies too) hold off that small gorup that goes around capping while you attune the crystals. As long as the H/H manage to kill one mantle guy each time, it'll be fine.
For a more detailed description, keep the H/H at the closest shrine to the crystal stand thing/the one furthest away from the demogogue (i think), then just run back and forth on the left one. You may need a speed boost to keep up with the mantle. I saw a monk do it with storm djinns hast, so that'll work.

Take a hero with a ranged snare (Cripple Shot, Pin Down, Crippling Anguish, Imagined Burden, Mind Freeze, etc.). Flag the heroes/hench at the crystal pedestral closest to the crystal spawn spot. Run the first crystal to the one on the far left - but don't change it until the Mantle have already done so. If you wait, they will have started to the one on the far right side, ignoring your heroes/hench. While they change the one on the far right, run back and grab a new crystal, and change the one where the heroes/hench are at. This is where it takes some good observation skills.
At this point, you should control the one in the middle, and the one on the left. Grab a crystal, and head to the one on the left, as the Mantle will be changing that one. Wait until they change it, and go back for a new crystal. DO NOT CHANGE THAT CRYSTAL YET. With only 1 crystal left to change, they will head for your hero/hench group. Watch as they go past, and find and target the one with the crystal. When you have that one targeted, have your snare hero use the skill to slow them down. CALL THE TARGET so the hero/hench attack and kill it (ctrl+shift+space). While they are killing the Mantle, swap the crystal on the left side, in case they get through and change the middle crystal.
Now, if all went well, they won't have made it through, and the Mantle will be sending a new group in to change the left crystal again. Grab another crystal, and repeat the process. Do this until no more Mantle come, then kill the Demagogue in leisure.

Get urself a few running skills.
You keep packing the closest and the left shrine.
Your heroes, a monk, can be lod with some interrupts like leech signet (to make him use them, put him on guard) and 2 fire eles. I went with searing flames builds. I also went with orion and alesia (?) and flagged them at the first shrine, allowing them to mow down the white mantle.

Thanks. I'll give these tips a whirl.

You could definitely H/H this with Necrotic Traversal. Before entering the area with the three crystals, kill the warthog that spawns behind the wall with projectile attacks (or draw it close and melee it through the roots) and use its corpse to get through. The only enemy you have to face this way is the demagogue, and I doubt you'll have any problems soloing him if my Ele managed to. After he dies, attune the portals and you're good to go.
It may feel like cheating, but countless attempts to run the crystals while my H/H try to handle the White Mantle have gotten me nowhere. AoE rapes both minions and henchies, and the crystals still slow you down just as all carried items did when Prophecies came out, even though they were supposed to lose that property when they were updated to not cause aggro focus (before Factions came out).

The trick is splitting the Mantle groups. You can do this by just running crystals to the left shrine over and over.
Get help of a friend, makes it even easier, and use an Essence of Celerity.
Do this till you notice no more Mantles are coming, this does not take long at all. Then you can go and kill the lonely Demagogue...^^

I found that camping at a shrine and identifying the crystal runner early means you can slow push your way forward to their camp.
Ping the carrier and attempt to spike them down, you're right that a snare is useful as they move faster in HM. But as a sin and having the 3 necros you should be able to take him down pretty fast. Make sure your curses necro casts barbs on him and then pound him to the ground, in the time it takes for the next carrier to come, push forward killing as many of his friends as posible.
Then do the same for the next carrier.

I am an SS and just put NT on my bar as well. It was easy to take him out. Alot easier than I expected. Thanks for adding your tip to the OP's post

Well, finally! I tried all these tips at one point or another.
I never could get the warthogs to spawn beyond the last vine gate (until I gave up, and re-skilled my nec to drop NT! THEN they show up).
What finally worked was a variation on MagumaRed's post. I took all 3 booster shots (Essence, Grail and Armour) just after entering the 3 Crystal area, grabbed 1 and headed to Left, just after Mantle finished taking it. Re took that one and Flagged H+H there. Ran back for another crystal, attuned the center shrine, got another crystal, just as the L one had been retaken by mantle but the H+H had engaged and killed the take over party of mantle (but had let their runner slip through). Then it was just rinse and repeat with the left shrine until all mantle were killed.
Then killed Demagogue, grabbed one of the "mantle's crystals" and took it to the Rightmost shrine. Done. Well, done after the henge guardian, but that part is anticlimactic.
Mantle just kept coming back to the L shrine, but never went to the center one once.
I tried the same deal earlier with only using Essence, but had flagged the team in the center. They were overrun while I was out running crystals. With Grail and Armour as additional boosters, they handled everything fine by themsleves and all I had to do was just keep running crystals.
Thanks again for the tips. Sometimes you just have to fiddle around enough until you get something, ANYTHING, to work. All these ideas helped.
Oh, and I used the 3 necs in Sabway builds plus Orion and Dunham

An easy way to kill the Demagogue is, while your team is working the crystals, run around the bottom to the Demagogue. He stands off a little way away from the rest of the mantle. He's easy to draw away from the group and solo kill. If you're with a pug, be sure to warn your team to not attune the last crystal before you're done.
EDIT: Saw this is with heroes and henchies--So, Never mind. Though you should be able to go around like I said and pull the Demagogue and kill him before the mantle wipes your crystal flagged henchies, but you'll probably end up doing the Mission separately.

Had some difficulty with H/H'ing the bonus of this mission in hardmode, but finally cracked it.
I started with the "flag henches to the first altar, then run crystals to the northeast pedestal while the henches fight" tactic, but it never worked.
What happened was that the Abbots, who kite like crazy, would kite back halfway to base and attract more Abbots - and my heros/henches could not overcome the chain-healing of 2-3 Abbots, and eventually they'd be overwhelmed.
The key to avoid Abbots kiting back is to not bring minions. It's the minions which cause the Abbots to kite so far back.
Actually not only minionmasters but also curse and blood necros are bad here, as the Abbots spam Convert Hexes, meaning necro hexes do nothing but give free armor to the enemy, and even if you bring multiple enchant removal you wont be able to keep two or more Abbots from spamming enchants all over the place. So necro hexes are no good, and enchant removal insufficient: leave the necros at home.
The next obvious problem is killing the Abbots. They kite and are good healers, and supported by necros and mesmers.
Solution: bring a shutdown mesmer. I brought Gwen as a Me/R with Serpents Quickness, Powerblock, Powerlock, Powerdrain, Empathy, and then filled up with skillstealing and enchant removal. She shut down the abbots healing, and thanks to Serpents Quickness could do a decent job of shutting down all other casters as well.
So my tactic was this:
1) Myself (warrior/ranger) runner with speedboost, keeping the closest altar and the altar to the northeast under our control. Timed captures of the northeast pedestal so that my henches only need to fight one group of White Mantle at a time (ie if my henches were idle I'd wait until a group was heading towards the henches, if they were fighting I'd capture the northeast as quickly as possible to avoid adds).
2) Flagged heros & hench about halfway between the closest pedestal and our crystal pedestal. Placement was so that the enemy needed to pass through their aggro zone, but the risk of Abbots kiting back towards the White Mantle base was minimized. Heros set to "guard", not "aggressive", to minimize Abbot kiting.
3) Team: Gwen shutdown & enchant removal, Tahlkora hybrid healer, Zhed SF-ele with Ward against Elements (because multiple Searing Heat hurts bunched-up henches).
4) Henches: Thom and Alesia.
Then it was simply a question of wearing the White Mantle down, one group at a time. When all runner groups were dead I took the team and killed the Demagogue.
I didn't use any consumables or PvE skills.

The groups that roam the area with the attunement things can be tough to take down. Their monks heal quite well and often come in pairs and if you take too long to kill one, a third gets in the game and you are pretty much screwed. They also have haxxored rank 20 prot and heal, along with infinite energy to spam convert hexes and shield of regeneration.
The easy way to get around it is to go the back way. Even with full h/h you can get back there quick enough and kill the demagogue. Then, if you have some speed buffs, send the heroes in as a distraction while you steal and get away with their crystal. Then just outcap them. As soon as the cutscene ends, all of your party is ressed again so you are fine. This strategy makes it very easy. You just need a good constant speed buff.

I started with the "flag henches to the first altar,............. As described above, this is the single best way to do this mission in HM. Flag all at closest shrine. Run back and forth replacing crystals on this shrine, and the far left one. Dont replace the far left crystal until just after the foes pass the midpoint and are well on their way to the shrine with Hero Henchies flagged. Don't depend on slowing or stopping the crystal runner. Dont try to chase the foes who run away. Just let the HH kill whoever comes to their flagged position. Just replace the crystals after they put them down. the Hero Henchies should be able to kill all the foes coming to that first closest shrine. When there is only one runner left, chase him and kill him. Then go for bonus, then place crystals. Alternatively, you can simply run all three crystals while the HH are flagged there fighting, but you will miss the bonus that way. Citadel Runner

I literally did this mission hard mode at least 30 times until that dang warthog spawned where I could nt to his corpse. after that it was a cakewalk.

1.Cap the shrine closest to you at the start. Get a crystal.
2.Wait for the enemy to cap the shrine on the left and move then you cap it immediately. Kill that group if they loiter. Dont waste a second, move fast! 3.Flag your heroes slightly forward of the left shrine. Get a Crystal. Go cap the last shrine. Be quick, keep moving, trust your HH to hold them off for a few minutes - they can do suprisingly well without you. For the bonus come back and do the mission up to point 1, then run past the right Shrine around the back of the mob and kill the demagogue. Job done. Bront
Having not tried this in HM, but in NM...
I had no problem as a Mesmer using Crippling Anguish and Imagined Burden to stop the runner and then get my Heroes and Henchies to pound him. You could try to bring a Mesmer Hero (primary or secondary) and manualy control those skills when the time comes, or take them yourself. Then sit back and defend your shrine, using the center bridge as a choke point. Phoenix Tears
Ursan + 3 Sabway necros, + 1 Monk Hench + 1 Ele hench did very well for me...
Me = Ranger, beside ursan I also had Ebon Sin and 1 Ritualist Ghost for additional support Flagged the bunch at 1 side, where the enemy runner will pass ever through, while I as ursan rushed ever from crystal to crystall to go sure, that the white mantle will never get all crystalls. When first group come,s kill ever first the crystal runner, they are totally defenseless, then kill the monks, the rest is then regardless, cause your minion factory will do the work for you. Every now and then, when you as ursan have not to rush, u recast your ghost and your ebon sin into soem foes and help fighting them. When you've then fighted some first waves and you see, that a group of them is running back to Demagogen to get a new crystall, delete the flag and rush with your group to them to force them into a battle at a point, where they can't flee from you (those crystal runners like to ignore you), but a small points where your minions and your party can good body block, this won#t help them, there you fight then all all, until only you and the Demagogen is left, - kill demagon, then rush your crystals, till you own all points.. mission finished with bonus. I found that mission as easy as in NM ... The Meth

Guys, no offense, but NM is level 16 enemies without hex and condition removal. Any reasonable hero build can just plow through them.
In HM they're level 24, and the Abbots spam Convert Hexes and Remove Condition like candy dispensers on Halloween. When they're not spamming Shield of Regeneration. And they've all got permanent +33% movement and attack speeds. It's a bit harder. Citadel Runner

Might take a few minutes to learn when the right times to cap are, but you can easily stalemate them until you find the timing. Heres how you cannot get away. If you go in with your whole group, you will be stuck fighting the entire mob. You will all die. You cannot run because they will follow you. Remember, this is hard mode, so you won't lose aggro. Speed boost doesnt do much with the crystal in your hands. If you flag all your heroes and henchies with them, but somehow get away successfully yourself while your HH team is fighting (unlikely), you have no more heroes and henchies, unless you get lucky enough to go back in and res your dead team without re aggroing the mob. In fact, anytime you want to show me that you can do it, Ill pay you 50K if your successful. As far as outcapping them......yes, I agree it can be done. But not mission and bonus together. Not in hard mode, not without killing them all off first. Which is exactly why I and most everyone else in this thread are suggesting the method Marty and Numa mentioned first. Knightly Bird
Throw your ursans into aggro and make sure they can tank dam well. I did this with a party of 3 people and h/h, but i'll explain how we did it.
First round: Wall up the monsters, and tank while a runner does the crystals for the mission, I ran all 3 crystals with r10 ursan(+33% speed boost) and we finished the mission(even though all my party died, I still had more time to cap all the shrines before the mantle could replace it) Second round: Same thing, wall up the monsters and tank... the group that tanks takes the first crystal and puts it in the first far left shrine, and as soon as they put it there, the "runner(ursan)" takes a new crystal and puts it in the middle shrine, this buys you some time. An assassin, or a r10 ursan can solo the Demagogue, you just have to make sure everything is aggroed outside of the area and then you go near the far right shrine and theres a shortcut to the Demagogue, and he is fairly easy to take down(I solo ursan'd him) Tarkin
This the only mission in tyria i dont make only with h/h call for help from a guildmate i run the first crystal, while he wait in crystal spawn point, get the crystal and run to another shrine while i run get the passage and kill Demagogue solo, return and we just run all crystals without killing any foe...
Dont forget to bring running skills... ehehehe If you, cant find someone to help you and want bonus i think fight them is the only exit, but you need some strong build for it... bring some slowdown skills and something special to deal with monks, they heal good... I start a thought discussion with a guy in another Thread about, ursan, brains, and ability in the same line dont mix, but if you use ursan and use the skill to KD the foe with the crystal he cant use the altar and and eventualy will die, soon they dont have no one more to bring crystals and eventualy you can kill all foes and demagogue... Or make a build to slowdown and kill the guy with the crystal, you can use hexes and criple to slow, i suggest to you to use some necro hexes that cut healing [skill]Defile Flesh[/skill][skill]Malign Intervention[/skill][skill]Mark of Death[/skill]... if you use 2 of these hexes in th guy with crystal the monk simple cant heal... and is easy to kill any foe. If you want to run, is good to use sin skills to shadow step... flag heros in midle of way of altars and use enchants to shadow step... dont flag heros in the way of foes... Sorry my weak english... GaladrielMoloch
for bonus: attune middle crystal and flag everyone to far left (forget which direction it is on compass but consider left if you are facing the white mantle camp), make sure you have running skills (1-2 should be fine)
get a new crystal and attune the far left one, and the white mantle should begin to send waves of people there to fight you (and runners). if they have capped the middle crystal during this time, you need to recap it. on your character bring some kds and cripples and any decent balanced set-up shouldn't have any troubles with the mantle groups iirc my group consisted of: ranger (me) prep shot fueling conc & you move like a dwarf DA para hero JB minion bomber w/aegis N/Rt w/Icy Veins Healer Hench Fire Hench Numa Pompilius

Cause thats what I did after two tries when 2 or 3 of the monks in the main group decided to come at me from 2x the aggro circle radius, making the white mantle a 4 uber monk group. As I couldn't get my heroes to pull far enough away to stop this, I decided a bit of finesse would make due instead of brute forcing my way through their whole army so painfully slowly. You can get away, you just have to be out of their aggro before they finish killing the last hench/hero. That way when they are done with the rest of your group and are looking for another target, they don't see you. Unless the rest of your party is wearing pre searing paper armor, they should take more then 5 seconds to die and thats all you need to get in and out After you get out you don't need to go back in and res your group, you just finish the capping. After the cutscene all party members are revived. I would take you up on your 50k offer but I don't really have any need for money. Care to wager your guild wars cred? GaladrielMoloch

yes. if you take the middle spot where its a choke point, they come a lot faster and its a lot harder, being on the far left gives you a lot more time to deal with the groups (I believe each group comes when the previous group is at 50%) + the runner groups. They are mantle, and their setups arent that rape in HM. if the abbots are really giving you trouble, take rend enchants to remove the SoR, otherwise passive defence is win

thanks for these tips,i need help on this too.

As you know (at least you should know), assuming you steal their crystal in HM without dying (which I am claiming is impossible without killing most of them first), you then need to do something with it. You claim you can just leave your team dead, without rezzing them, and escape. I say you cannot. But even if you do, what next?
You must do something with their crystal. If you stand their and do nothing, nothing happens (You have their crystal, they are essentially frozen). But you need to place crystals to win. If you drop their crystal, OR place it on any tower, they start running again. Since you are now solo (Your team is dead as you claimed), you cannot kill them OR outrun them. Anyway, by the time you even get back there, they only need to place one more crystal. You need to place three. And you need to use theirs, or drop it, to do that. What now? LOL.
And, since the back corridor is now filled with spread out hard mode foes, how do you intend to get the bonus? You have to get the bonus first, or you can't get it at all. Even if you had a 100% speed buff, and you could place all the crystals, you would fail the bonus. And even if you could place all he crystals and pause the game (which you can't), you would die going through the foes to try to solo the hard mode demagogue. Man, you got yourself into a real tizzy here.
Once again, in normal mode stealing the crystal is great. You run in, take it, and then slowly kill off the entire hoard while still holding the crystal. Then you get the bonus, then you place the crystals. In hard mode, this will not work.
See, the point is to get the bonus and the mission in one shot. Which, once again, is why Marty and Numas methods mentioned earlier are perfect.
Yep, Ill bet my guild wars cred and give you 50K. Give it someone as a gift since you have "no need for money".
Bring it man, bring it.

easiest way: kill the warthog that's after the gate, use necrotic traversal to get to the other side, solo the demagogue, attune the crystals with no one around.

Yes, that is for sure the easiest way. But the only problem is that that warthog only spawns about 20% of the time. I know people who have fought all the way to that gate 30 times in a row with no warthog. Who has time for that?

Bring it man, bring it. You kill the demagogue before you steal the crystal, with your whole team behind you. He is very easy to aggro alone. And yes, it is perfectly possible to out cap them with 1 person if you have speed buffs. I'll try to get a few screen shots later today.

And here are the pics:
The first pic shows the bonus being finished, me getting away. Would have been a lot cleaner get away if the minions hadn't aggroed the white mantle before demagogue was dead, but pain inverter and insidious parasite did its job while i ran away. Since the minions decided to be nub and aggroed the whole group, I didn't bother stealing the crystal, since their cap group was delayed
second and third show me capping all 3 shrines, solo
fourth shows right after the cutscene, where the rest of the party is ressed with 1 health.
You don't even HAVE to aggro their group, you can just get ahead in capping, go kill demagogue, then catch up in the capping game and win. No deaths at all.
Its probably also possible to cap with only a 25% movement speed boost, or a less then 100% coverage 33% boost. I had tons of spare time, it would have taken them at least 7-8 seconds more to cap at the end there.

But, you did not steal their crystal. If you had, you would also be dead. Again, I am stating that a person cannot steal the foe's crystal solo in hard mode and also win bonus and mission.
But even so, the first picture shows you running behind the group and killing the demagogue, your HH team agroes the mob (not your fault, it would take some quick flagging to avoid this), and they all die but you live. The first picture shows the mantle mob at the West pedestal, which means the East pedestal already has a mantle crystal on it, and they will next go for the North pedestal (the one where you first enter) next.
Next you claim that from there, you run out and place three crystals before the mantle mob places just one more.
(Because in your picture the white mantle are about to get their third crystal and be on their way to placing it on their last shrine closest to where you first come in. They always place crystals in the following order...East, West, North).
So somehow, you run from in back, all the way up to the front (near north pedestal) to get another crystal passing the mantle group on the way, and then run past them again to the East Pedestal before they get to the North pedestal? I doubt it.
Im curious as to why in pictures 135 and 138 there are absolutely no foes anywhere on the map? Where did they go? Since you immediately go to the cutscene after placing all the crystals, you have not yet placed the last one. However, the picture shows that the mantle have not even captured the East pedestal. The one they always take first.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the chat in picture one is totally different than the chat in pictures 2, 3, and 4.
OOOPS! Thats embarrasing.
LOL. Anyway, I do commend you on trying new techniques. Good luck man.

They are outside the map range, getting their next crystal. I had already captured the east pedestal, and only needed the north one. Picture 138 is actually taken in the small lag time between placing the third crystal and the cutscene. The large purple stone in the middle only shows up after you place the third crystal. Quote:
