Cool man. Its all good.
Heres how to alway make sure Less Longbow lives. When you get to the Seeker and the Abbot, just before the boss that is just before Less Longbow, go up to the south wall and look on your radar screen. You will see Less Longbow on your radar.
If Les is standing away from the soldiers, and not fighting, then go ahead and kill the boss and then the two soldiers that normally attack Less.
If Les is fighting the soldiers, then just wait at that wall and watch him fight. It takes about 2 long minutes, but he WILL defeat them. For some reason, if you try to help him when he is already fighting, he can actually die, and then you cannot activate the bonus.

Ohh I know that trick, I never really have needed to use it though. Here is picture that shows what I'm talking about. Absolutely no chance of saving him. Like I said, I think I am just the unluckiest person in the game 
Edit: Think I have the best way to do the bonus now. Flagging the h/h party to the demagogue worked flawlessly. You then have to move into sight range of the demagogue for them to start fighting, and he dies nigh instantly. As long as they are flagged right they never come near the big white mantle group.

this is the toughest tyria mission by far, but theres a great trick to gettin the mission and the bonus.
i lost this mission about 8 times just b/c i kept getting overwhelmed by the healing/aoe dmg mob of doom at the end. the cool this is (which i didnt notice b4) when the mob becomes overhwelming demagogue is completely alone and u can flag ur henchies to fight the mob and run around the back entrance and kill the boss. (1 person alone is enuff just bring some good spike skills. i killed as an invoke lightning air ele) grab their crystal as it spawns hold it, and dont die. my henchies and my allies hench got wiped but we survived. with me holding their crystal the mantle didnt move unless argoed. u can then easily attune each shrine without much resist. one easy way would be to use shadow of haste/any other stance to break argo of a mantle mob while attuning.
