Block Trial Accounts from using Whisper

I still think the best solution is to create a new "trial region". Trial accounts load into the trial region instead of the American/European/Asian regions and they are stuck there. Allow them access to the international districts in case they want to team up with a seasoned player during their trial, but no place else.

How about letting users have a 'whisper-list': i.e. only those users they put on the list are allowed to whisper them. This would still allow trial accounts to whisper - but would alleviate the problem of gold-spammers doing their thang

In fact, an option could be added to allow users (a). whispers from anyone or (b). only allow whispers from those folks on their whisper-list.

This is getting old and a pain in the netherworld. I don't know if this would work because the bots are smarter than GW. You would think they could trace them from their names. I've tried to ignore them but they just come back with another slightly differnt name.

Dont think that would be too much of a problem. ANET bans ip adresses, and all it would take is a 3 strikes (I dont actually care, just pick a number) rule. 3 strikes = ip ban. This should do a decent job deterring them. However, if they want to go and set up proxy ip's... well, I dunno.

Bot sweet shops also change their router codes around every few hours to avoid being IP banned. by setting up proxys.
You see, all the things bots CAN DO to get around being banned, they do. It is about making money for them. If they don't do it, they won't have a job. A.net isn't doing everything they can do to stop it though. They don't have the same motivation.

Because most of the time the whisperer is now hiding in another district, apparently using a "spotter bot" (or helper app/packet sniffer, I don't know) to harvest names to whisper.

Since he's in another district /report doesn't work, so you have to screenshot & submit a ticket at www.guildwars.com to report him.

And, again, I believe it already is so that trial accounts can't whisper. They can only use the ALL channel, ie they can spam but not whisper-spam.

Then continue with enter up arrow enter to resend the whisper untill I get bored with it, or until im finished reading the WTB/WTS lists.

Like someone has to give you that code, you might want to whisper your friend? Don't say they can join your guild, cause some of them is actually High-End PvP who prefer not to have a member that is totally new to the game.

Don't get me wrong, I also hate the goldsellers. A better solution would be I.P. bans (if Anet isn't doing that yet) and hope for them not to use proxy.

/unsigned. It would make it stupidly difficult to team up with friends who are trying out the game to show them the ropes. i've done that with quite a few friends. What kind of impression does it make on new players if we make it almost imossible for them to team up with their friends already playing the game?

yeah! let's change the whole whisper system just because of bots! we should also just remove monks from the game cuz bots use them to farm! /sarcasm

making the game unfriendly to new players surely isn't a solution. just report the bots and move on.

Unfortunately moving on isn't an option as another will just take their place. Why should the players who have payed for the game have to put up with getting spammed three times in a row by the same guy as soon as they log on? (which happened to me just now)

As long as the people using trial accounts are given a warning message explaining why they cant use the whisper feature, i'm all for it.

The entire system doesn't need to be changed, just altered slightly. My suggestion is to only allow you to be contacted by a trial account if you have them on your friends list.

You guys are so racism. Because you don't want to face some certain issues so you force those who play trial accounts don't have the right to even TALK? It's so bad. If you don't want to get whisper, go back to your own district. Why come to international district and complain? Jeez

Trial acounts cannot send Wispers, but they can reply to one.

Player A and B: A is on a trial acount, B is a regulard player.

A cannot wisper to B, But be Can wisper to A

Once B started whispering to A, A can freely whisper to B.

This would stop Gold Spammer, but not limit friends showing the game, you would just have to decide on a name for the one thats trying the game before hand.

Well I have gotten the whispers in regular american and international. Just load in and it's insta-pm. It's got to do with just don't bother me with advertisements in my game. I didn't come here to be bothered with that. If I wanted ads I'd just watch TV.
