The guild was ran by a business owner and his staff, who played 12-16 hours a day each. They were in some laid-back helpdesk/administration government business, getting paid to keep the seats warm. I know, or have been part of at least 4 other guilds that were owned and operated by such people. The interesting thing about all of them was that money was never an issue. They owned 5-15 accounts (subscription game, $200+ per month + all expansions on all accounts), ran on multiple computers, had 24/7 bots, the whole she-bang. All of them are in 30-50 age range. Running guild groups there mean having 3 players, with all other spots filled by player assisted bots or macros. it's not until you run across something like this that you realize just what hard-core means. It's also interesting that these people are never high profile. They rarely get involved on forums, they are known, but not notorious in game, but still do everything there is. Due to abundance of characters and item hoarding, trades make for absurd income, and reduce the need for grind to absolute minimum. They usually hire grinders to work for them for a fee, then turn massive profit with minimum effort. Business owners like this make good high-end hard-core guilds. They understand business and team work, and there's also none of the childish drama, things are always operated at a casual but professional level. GW is a bit simple and too small for such enterprises, but in other games they exist. And if you ever run across them, be smart. Play their game, know your place, and you'll be getting your equivalent of FoW just for joining in a mission. So no, business + MMOs are not exclusive at all. |

Trying to tell a guild officer to shut up -- in over 15 different guilds over a period of 6 months now, if I'm reading the post correctly -- is really not the best way to "win friends and influence people." I have been in just two guilds in the 18 months I've played GW (the first guild just sort of died due to inactive players ), but I have never been kicked out of one. Then again, I never told any of the officers to shut up either. |
