World Size?
bamafan2989
How do you guys see the world size of GW match up against WoW?
Dono
Scale wise i would say its about the same, but hate to say it, areas that you can actually go into, World of Warcraft is alot bigger. But then again the areas you do explore look like something off a disney film
masta_yoda
wow is alot bigger, more freedom but very boring when ur by urself and theres nothing to do except raid
i reckon its 2-3 times bigger including outlands and raid areas

WoW probably has more explorable areas, but for a pay-to-play game, I would expect nothing less. I wonder if the game worlds would actually be the same, give that they both have earth-like gravity, (that's taking the world as a whole, and not just the explorable areas). Also, I think GW has a lot less land mass than Earth...

Graphics in WoW are pretty crapy.
wetsparks
wow's world seems to be a lot bigger than it actually is because a snail could beat you to the next town. but is also has the added benefit of being able to go anywhere unlike gw which is broken into a bunch of zones and there is tons of room that you aren't allowed to go to.

Let's take this to the level of WoW or what GW2 might be...
Imagine GW as it is as one instanced area. You're in Thunderhead Keep getting a party together to venture forth and help King Jalis take back the keep. You finally get a full team after waiting for one Ele to finish crafting her max fire storm bracelet and your journey begins. Your team works it's way to the entry gate fighting ice imps and the occasional ice golem. After about 45 minutes (defeating the a Mursaat every now and then) you reach the gate and can start the mission...
Guild Wars is much smaller than WoW. That said, GW has a lot more immediate action and adventure. If I have only an hour to play, I can quickly go to my favorite mission or PVP and play--instant entertainment. With WoW, you have so much to do between action areas, to play a certain area that you enjoy, you have to sink a lot more time into it. So, you have to take the bad with the good, instant entertainment with the chance to get bored with the game in just a few months, or a long slow involved game with lots of fun, but you have to sink in a lot of grind and time to see it.

So the world size of wow is bigger than prophecies/factions/nightfall and EOTN combined?
wetsparks
playable area is definately bigger, but i'm not to sure about the nonplayable areas in guild wars.
zidane888
Didn't realize WoWorld was that huge.

If we talk about content GW has way more density.
You don't see things like Saidra's Ashes, Lost Temples with no apparent purpose, demons spawning out of thin air in corners, a herd of Great Beast or Bridge Trolls or "Follow the White rabbit" in WoW. WoW it's more like... make area, scatter demonic chicken around, put players in there.
In GW each area is a single Art piece.

Tyria is indeed pretty damn big. If only we could explore all of it...

Of course, then there's the issue of what's beyond THAT...

When I first got out of Pre, one of the first things I did was press M to look at the world map. My jaw quite literally dropped at the size, and I actually said "Wow, I can't wait to explore all of this!"
Of course I still had fun, but if Guild Wars had the capability to be that epic, then...Wow.
AND YES What are those NW islands for?????

Wow is HUGE. There's no map travel and taking a griffon ride isn't free and takes forever, but it's a lot faster than going by foot.
Lord Sojar
WoW is huge, but they don't have map travel. Sucks to be them.
Pleikki
Wow Bigger but Worse Graphic and Gw is more fun
artay
After seeing jumper I have a new appreciation for map travel. Watch out for paladins! (W/Mo's)
That must be the reason there's no map travel in WoW, so many pallys...

Places in WoW have alot more flat land, so it kinda evens out when it comes to which game has a bigger play area.
Silly Warrior
Its clear that the developers of Guild Wars spend more time making their areas than WoW do. WoW may have 2-3 times more area than GW, but GW is a hell of a lot more pretty.
Veripare
WoW's geography annoys me. Why is there a huge tree up north and an iceland way down south?
GW != WoW
My 2 cents.

Why can't you people have a nice discussion without turning it into another WOW vs. GW discussion where I must step in and join the flame wars?

I myself find it retarded we have Map Travel...HOW do you explain it Lore-Wise? On top of that, it's just plain retarded...
This is hardly a downside
Terra Xin
World of Warcraft? Never heard of that blizzard game that was created before GuildWars was released... Not at all.

Having played both, I'd have to easily say Guild Wars. I've always found WoW to be tiny, but Guild Wars, even for each chapter, is massive.

On topic: Tyria's pretty big. If we could explore all of Tyria, and all of Cantha, I'd say they'd be about equal.

And for size, take a look at the map on wiki. To me, its pretty damn big.

Shame to see this get so heated, especially in a manner like this.
In all sincerity, how does Guild Wars seem "bigger?"

When you go out of town, you see whole lot of ... nothing. You see area worth of one GW explorable and all there is is dozen of trees (each looking exactly same) and couple of critters.
In GW it that area would contain about hundred of monsters and so many details that you start thinking that level designers are no-life workaholics.
