Are green drop rates to low for normal non farming play?
brakner
Just curious if this has been discussed?
My main is a 3 year old Ranger that has finished all of Prophecies, all of Factions, all of Nightfall and all of EoTN and not once have I ever seen a green drop when grouped with the usual 8 H/H. Is A-net nerfing the overall drop rate to much and killing it for team/group players because of the solo farmer? You figure after 3 years I would see one green, even a crappy one.

It's just bad luck, IMO...just like Black Dye drops.

Mhe, they are rare drops, it's just that they are massively overfarmed by solo farmers. Also remember, H/H steal drops so it's pretty unlikely to get one while paired with them. I've had one or two drop while in HM, and only 1 in NM.
MithranArkanere
Nah. Not at all. I got almost 70% of the drops that were assigned to by with Heros and Henchmen while playing normally.
The 30% restant where from bosses I killed for tomes and 2 of them playing with other humans.

If greens where necessary to complete the game, I would say yes.
Otherwise, they're too low for my tastes, since I H/H 99% of the time.
Playing with other people, you see them more.

In general, green drops seem way too low. On the other hand, my wife once fought Nundak the Archer and Rot Foulbelly (who travel together) while skill capping with a full group of heroes/henchmen and got both greens.
Winterclaw
I've seen more greens from normal playing than I have from intentionally farming them.

I'm working on Canthan Vanquisher atm (21/33) and have gotten at least 5 greens so far with a full H/H party. I got a few while playing through EotN as well. I think the frequency is fine, I just wish there was a way to get things other than random drops and farming.
beanerman_99
I think that the drop rate should be tweaked a bit. If people say that greens are not special then no one should have a problem with them dropping more
I don't mind that H/H shares in some drops like say the whites, but I HATE the fact that they can take my golds and greens!!! How about me just paying 200g each time I add a hench to my party and call it good and let ME have all the drops.

I get plenty of green items all the time when H/H anywhere. Not very often, but I get a good amount. On average, about 1 green and 4 gold every 2-3 weeks.
Kattar
Guess my drop rates are crap compared to yours then, Storm.
What a surprise, something else I fail at. Lol.

Don't know what the actual drop rate is, but it definately increases if you have an all human team. I tend to get them in fits and starts. I got 3 in 1 area while vanquishing once, then didn't pick up any greens for a month!
Kusandaa
I must've gotten around 5 greens in 2 years of gameplay from normal gameplay. Rest were from farming. Right off the bat, I can remember getting Asterius' Scythe, a green in Kurzick Area while vanquishing and more recently Rajazan's Fervor.
Slycandestin
It certainly seems that way. Compared to what they're worth nowadays, I actually see them about as much as a good req9 gold, except the gold will be worth mountains of cash and the green will be worth 1-5k half the time, maybe 10k if I"m lucky. I'm suprised at how little Kanaxai's greens are worth now. They did drop often when completing the Deep but now it's hard to even get a group going, I'm suprised the prices haven't gone up instead.

My data point for non-farming play for 2 years:
3 characters thru Sorrows Furnace quests: 1 green
8 characters thru Factions: Zero
4 characters thru Nightfall: 2 greens
3 characters thru GWEN: Zero

I have quite a collection of green weapons, and the only one I ever actively tried to farm was the Enadiz Defender, which didn't take a particulary large amount of time.
The prices of Greens seems to have dropped massively lately though, does no one want them anymore? Or have I just not been paying attention.

I just went capping with one of my friends, we got 2 greens in one area, with 6 heros. Its just dumb luck.

I played through more then 400 hours before getting my first green, which I eventually threw away somewhere... the way I see it :
If you really want a green, buy it... It should cost you less time to get the money then to get the green. This goes for casual players only.

Weird. I wonder how this works, exactly. They've been dropping alot for me lately, even with a full 8 h/h. One run in Cathedral of Flames gave me three (counting Murakai), and a run into Sorrow's Furnace last week gave me two. Right now, I've got almost one full panel of storage filled with greens, and I picked almost all of them up in the past two months.
The sad part is, they seem to be worthless as far as trade goes. Nobody wants an item you can't remod, or they want a specific skin.

Normal play I got a couple of greens ~5 I'd say, and lots during boss farming.
However I expected to get at least one during my Elite Skill Hunter, but I got none, 290 Bosses, 0 Greens :P

Greens make me sigh in frustration. I have cleared countless areas and gotten so few greens it's laughable. On several HM tombs runs, I have been the only party member NOT to get a green from the Darknesses. Pugged and H+H'd Sorrow's Furnace, questless, Kilroying, Final Assaulting, and every other combination...no greens.
Then one day, killing 1/2 an hour in Sorrow's and Grenth's Footprint: two odd greens in two trips.
Scythes? Fuggedaboutit. Shields I like? NoFookinWay. Trips across the Jade Sea for swords and staves? NoGreensForYou!
I even remember pre-update Rotscale, when the drop was not likely, countless trips in a 3-man group for her bow.
I guess I'm ambivalent. They're supposed to be the weapons carried by these baaaaaaaadasssssss villains, so getting one should be uncommon, right?
But I do like them, and certainly do wish they would drop a little more frequently than they do.

ive gotten about 4 or 5 with H/H, mostly useless ones but greens none the less. Also when doing things like missions (especially in factions) ive seen other people get greens in an 8 man party. maybe youre just unlucky :O
chowmein69
Ive gotten alot of greens from the bosses doing skill hunting with H/H.
Biostem
Frankly, I've found greens to drop only when I'm not specifically trying for one. Basically, in the course of getting from 1 town to another, or while doing missions, I'll find a green as a surprise. Not that I mind it, but it's going ot take a while if you're specifically farming for it.
OTOH, it seems that a lot of greens are not all that desirable, and you may actually be better off w/ collector items + mods, (except of course for the greens that aren't able to be replicated).

I was H/H just the other day finishing off a quest that has been sitting in my log for months and got both a gold drop and a green from the boss.

I've actually noticed that some chars seem to have a higher drop rate of some things than others. My ranger rarely sees black dye, me ele had 1 in pre and 1 in normal teams, aside from the one she gets soloing. This despite my ranger having about 10x more time logged. My ranger also get ectos more than my monk does (not overfarmed on either char).
cosyfiep
there are some bosses I have found that drop their green for me almost everytime I kill them---then there are others that I am sure that dont even have one! (dang monk boss outside of sunspear sanctuary!)
over the canthan holiday the one noob monk boss dropped his green for me 4 times (was going to start giving it away to noob monks in the monastery). There are some greens I have wanted (I will take those crummy avatar greens) and have never gotten, while others I have a few of ---that my heroes have now. I have also killed some bosses in eye that have given me some nice greens, and I always use a h/h team.

Now that you mention it, it does seem I rarely get green drops when I adventure with my 8-men H/H team. In fact, I think it's safe to say that the drop rate is so bad that ANET should consider looking at the drop rate...
I am almost finished with Factions (including most quests), and I have seen 0 green! In Nightfall, Prophesies, and EotN, I got exactly 1 green drop in each, just doing normal quests and missions. Yes, by farming in elite areas and playing in HM, I have found a few more green items, and you do get a green item in end-game chests. Still, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FARM TO HAVE DECENT STUFF!
It's a good thing green items are out of vogue right now, and prices are extremely low. About 80% of the green items I have, I've bought it from sales forum here, or online. After wasting all day trying to farm a Nooseknitter's Flatbow, I concluded that it's so much easier to buy the darn thing. It doesn't fit the spirit of a role-playing game, but I guess that's the way the game designer wants it....

Yes but at least I get to SEE what is dropping for them. With H/H you have no idea if the drop rate is even working
Its the Dungeon greens that have me mad. I have gotten one, Bogroot Staff, to come out of an end chest. One out of about 50 odd trips into these dungeons. It gets aggrevating spending over an hour or two in one dungeon and you get a crappy diamond.
Ouchie
I got 2 this past weekend just farming vanguard points in normal mode - I have never really had a problem getting a green drop just getting the ones I want

On the whole, I must say I think the rates are pretty decent, but they could probably stand to go up a little bit -- especially with casual players in mind.
Lately, my annoyance has been with Colonel Custo. I've been trying to get his hornbow for a while now, but even after dozens of 4 and 3-man runs (me + heros) he will not drop it for me. Kinda frustrating... especially when I hate farming...

I think many complaints about green drop rates are really only there because there's no transparency. We don't really know drop rates, and we can't see it when heroes take a drop. Kinda like how lockpicks can frustrate us because we never know how close or far we were from breaking it.
So, in short, we're not frustrated at drop rates, we're frustrated that we don't see any progress.

LOL, I think Green drop rates are too high. I'm not a farmer, yet I have plenty of greens. No, I don't get a green everytime I kill a green eligible boss, but I get them occassionally and that's usually with a full hero/hench team.
When you can stand in town for hours trying to sell a green for 2-3k or list a handful of green weapons in the Ventari Sell forum for 2-3k each and get no buyers then the drop rate is obviously high.

Only in casual non dungeon/elitea rea H/H play I have about 5 total.
Got Vah's Hornbow last night in a vanquish with a couple guildies. Its all random, but I know that Olias has stolen about 20 greens from me.

super strokey
I think they should be lower, much lower. I think rare max weapons should be super rare instead of every one having one on every one of their characters and every one of their heroes often with a few in storage too that they dont know what to do with.
Sir Pandra Pierva
The greens that drop are usually not worth it anyway but too argue, what should happen with h/h
since you supply heros with shit and they take your drops.
That is not fair in the least, even if you use the shit from the GOTY and pre orders.
hench i can see since they have to supply them selves with retarted builds and weapons and runes and insigs that they share in money and other drops.
But heros who you pay for?
that makes no sense at all

Short Answer: Yes.
Long Answer: Yes; it sucks; and it will likely stay that way - Anet has repeatedly clamped down on casual money-making while professional farmers continue making all their money off of people like you.
