Which is the Best Medium for GW (Book, Graphic Novel, or Movie)
XoVeR
I really like the guild wars universe, and the lore, and I would like to see it in another medium some way.
Now this is not a thread asking if their should be a book, movie or Graphic novel. This is a thread asking which would be better should Anet move forward with something like this.
So which Medium would you rather see
Book
Graphic Novel
or
Movie??

Let's stay away from something that has story, shall we?
I'd prefer music, artbooks, and stuff.

Guild Wars has lore? Whaaaat?
Bryant Again
Go for a book. Anything else would be too funny.

Terraban, you forgot "Yay, I win" at the end of Nightfall
I really liked the music and art, I wouldn't mind seeing something like that explored more.

A nicely done graphic novels would be great. Full painted by Daniel Dociu and some of the concept art staff.
If they do end up with a movie, it'll probably be made by Uwe Boll! OMG!

I'd prefer a novel, though a movie might be fun as well.

I think an animated movie for Guild Wars would be epic. (Animated like Beowulf was)
GW does have a pretty in-depth lengthy storyline, i think there would be a lot to put into it story-wise... eh, too bad it'll never happen.

Might as well be done by Uwe Boll; he could hardly make the Gw lore any worse.
As far as lore goes: You, Guild Wars, will never even come close to the epics like Lord of the Rings, so just stick to the MMO. Any attempt at literature or a movie from Gw would be one big lolfest.

None.
Let it stay a game
Let it stay a game
Brewmaster
Madlib style book
Example:
"Then Prine Rurik turned to (Insert Character Name) and said, "I'm sure your a perfectly capable (Profession) but we need more than that. You alone with your single (Weapon) will do little to stop the Charr."
Make your own story that you can read over and over and...well once at least.

Movies have the problem of being only 2h long. So how many days can one cover in that time? Two days? Maybe three? Most movies do not cover long periods of time and even the Lord of the Ring appears as if it was an one-week trip. GW would be expected to be some sort of Fantasy Action movie. The problem of these movies is that they never cover more time than two days. Even if these two days are one month apart, one just won't get an epic story out of such a movie. At least one that conveys the passage of time really well. The exodus from Ascalon would be a five minute sequence and we would befriend and fall from grace with the white mantle in another ten. Thanks, I pass.
Comics have the problem of being.. well, comics. While the game does not embrace the comic look, the comic would have to embrace it in order not to become too expensive. I'd rather not see comic versions of people that Anet strifes to portray realistically in the game. Sure, some super comic artist may overcome this, but he is not going the one who is hired. The comic would already be sold on a license, no need to sell it on a big comic name as well.
Books are fine, but books would lack Daniel Dociu and the art team. Again, this would be an expensive decision if done right, but somehow colored paintings should be part of the experience.
In order not to sound like a nay-sayer I suggest a TV series. The kind of TV series HBO would make. Reasonable production value, good but not overpaid actors and a focus on story telling. A TV show would not have problems conveying the passage of time. It has at least a whole season to drive the story forward. The rhythm of the narration would be closer to the game and not be compressed into a 2h roller-coaster ride.
In terms of making back the money, the TV series would also win over the movie format. One can charge maybe $20 for the movie, but easily $50+ for a whole season of GW. Apart from regular viewers, Anet would even have the infrastructure to target all the fans directly. But even if HBO ever considered turning a video game into a narrative series, other franchises would appeal to them more. There is also the problem of fans being very unforgiving if they do not see the game's mechanics reflected in the way the movie turns out. I call that Uwe Boll's dilemma, he may copy the game's looks, but not the feel. Other directors and other vg licenses have the same problem.

Don't even get me started on the whole "Glint" thing.

Yep.
In-game and on the wiki. Those should be the only places I need to go if I want info on lore.
Never really been a fan of video-game related fiction though...

Comic movie FTW
MithranArkanere
Movie, real image series and/or anime.
Any other medium would be plain boring and depend too much in a single author.

I would soooo love to see a GW movie that would be something

A Uwe Boll movie, just to see how horrible his movie based on a game with a horrible storyline could be.
Kusandaa
Video game (eh)... if not, probably the fanfiction/novel/novella-type thing. Exclude the NPCs please. I play the story, I should be the main character, and there's so many main characters to choose from (all the players) that IMHO, should be better if the players would make the adaptation. Thus fanfiction... or well, a BOOK, to give a more... "definite" reply.
No, I don't wanna see a movie, novel or whatever thing where Mehnlo or Togo's the main char and we're just sidekicks.

Ive said it many times.
Guild Wars has so much room for backstories, you could have countless novels based on the universe.

To be honest, GW only works as a video game in my opinion.
They could release GW Swords and Axes on standees instead of Varesh Ossa e.g.. Or Elementalist/Ritualist wnderbras.
sindex
Until GW gets a better and more gripping plot then in the past, I vote “no” on all other mediums. I hate to say it but the Warcraft series has better plot elements at times.
EternalTempest
Like all media it has to go beyond the "game" to varying degree's.
A novel can add incredible depth and exploration only touched on in game.
A movie "could be" good depending on the writers and the plot. It probable tend to follow the main plot line, with Hollywood tweaks.
Comics have great creative freedom due to it's medium and has a lot potential.

as nice as it would be to get more guild wars than Anet is capable of putting out (they can only make a game so fast) I think the best would be a book/graphic novel. They already have an author doing all the writing for the gw universe. When his job slows down with that as we get closer to the release of GW2 he can work on a book that explains how Tyria went from the world that it was to the world that it will be in the 200 years difference in the games.
pamelf
Dare I say it...but the best medium for GW is a GAME!

No, please.
Have you seen the Mortal Kombat movies? Or Tomb Raider...
Just, no.

Nothing, if GW wants to be great- it needs to avoid all of those money traps. Did you ever hear of a Half Life movie? NOPE, Deus Ex? NOPE
