Am i alone on this?

Hey guys,
So since the announcement of GW2 i have been watching the people in GW. Now i personally am looking forward to it a great lot and all, but i never fail to miss this certain behavior in other players.
What i mean is Title hunting. Ever since GW2 was announced all i see people do is title hunting because you are suppose to receive benefits from them in GW2. I personally think that when ANET says that they get benefits, they don't mean things like a super overpowered weapon or something. When i hear them say that i kind of start thinking...okay maybe my character will have a slightly better starting armor, or a few extra skills.
What i dont understand is why some people are going all out for Koabd title when they normally would do something else to get these so called benefits.
I mean seriously, when ANET says that, i believe a lot of people are stretching it way to far believing they will literally be Gods walking among mere mortals (as the title says). Actually i think that titles that high rank will even be considered being rewarded in GW2 because remember, GW is not a game like WoW where you have to spent hours after hours to get a gear equivalent to someone else. As far as i remember, you can give a collector 5 pieces of some monster and get a perfect weapon.
Also, don't you think that if there were really great rewards that people which never played GW will get jeleaus and eventually say " Screw this, there are people in the game that have things which i will never be able to get, because i did not farm so many titles". I doubt giving people such great rewards for having a title that basically proves they have no life will be profitable or a good idea, in a way you would create social levels within the community.
Finally, i think a lot of people are ignoring the fact that there is such a thing as a complete HoM, which consists of 5 maxed titles (3 of them which dont even have to be real titles, as having completed a campaign counts as one) and some other things. Why would there be such a thing? I believe that those 5 titles and the rest of the factors that make a complete HoM will be the only things you will be rewarded for, and that i personally believe that a lot of people are having way to many expectations of these rewards in GW2
Hope to see some replies here, get a discussion going and all!
Cheers!

I work on titles because I beat all of the campaign missions and have nothing better to do other than PvP. I also think its fun trying to get titles.

It really helps to actually read some of the interviews that are available on the world wide web. GW has never been gear oriented so it should not be expected. One of the things mentioned is that you will be able to get things in GW2 with which you can show that you are a long-standing GW player as it were.
What I can deduce from that is something that already exists: skins. I would expect (though that is assumption on my part) that we can logically expect things like armour and weapon skins that will only be available through the HoM achievements in GW1. Not more powerful but different looking like elite armours today.
Being and armour addict myself, boasting about 34 elite armours across my account, this actually is something of interest for me to consider. I am actually more into getting elite armours for fun as it is and if it gives me more options for special skins in GW2 I will be a happy person in that sense.
So, even though I do expect some cool things from the HoM, I do not expect anything that is more powerful. I also suspect these things to be personalised to the character who gets them and thus will have no value in game beyond being able to possess some of it and show it off. In fact that is what I hope it will be like.

But yeah, titles killed this game. People who can't think just title farm because that's what they like, I guess.
The old days of PvE were pretty good.

'Nother gw2 thread. /sigh,
at least this one has an intelligent OP.
Anywho, I don't farm for titles because I play this game for fun. Farming titles isn't fun.
My plan (and excuse for not doing any title farming) is to figure out what title gains which reward after gw2 comes out, and then going and getting it in gw1 after I know what im getting. (If its worth the time)
Not gonna farm out all the guardian titles just to find out it unlocks the skill "guardian" for you.

The only titles I have actively sought out are the race titles in EotN for armors. Other than that, I've never really been interested. For a little while after the GW-Hall of Monuments-GW2 relationship was announced I was thinking I should start working on them.
Then I realized how much work that would be for one character, let alone all of my characters.
I think you're right in some respects though. Before the Hall of Monuments, titles were kind of a pastime. Now it seems like people are spending a majority of their time actively farming them. I'm not sure that's a bad thing, however, since otherwise most people would have very little reason to play GW.
And I'd also have to agree that in all probability the GW2 rewards for titles will be quite lackluster compared to what some think they might be. All in all, I think a pretty vast majority share that assessment. Though I might be regretting those words in two years when all the people who max out their HoM get a lovely mansion in the suburbs of divinity coast.
:Edit:
Actually, now that I think of it, my longterm plan parallels what Yoshikuni Mahsu said. Just that I haven't really been planning it all that much.

I'm pretty sure people know the unlockables are cosmetic.
It's been said in interviews and such.
I think title hunters just really like continuing to play Guild Wars.

There have been many many many threads about making titles account based, and i'm not going to get ino that now. All i am going to say is that i think i would be enjoying my time playing slightly more if i could title farm with slightly more variety of builds. But like redfeather said. I do so because i enjoy it.
Kook~NBK~
I chase titles merely for the sake of achieving the title and for the fun of it. Do I care about the benefits that they'll get me in GW2? Nope. I hope to discover girls before GW2 comes out, and if I do, then there won't be much time for on line gaming for me! Titles are an excuse for playing GW and do provide a small sense of achievement in the game.
Is Title hunting mind numbingly dull work? It can be, but doesn't have to be. Some people lock in on "Title X" and stay with it until they've maxed it. That hurts my brain just thinking about it. The trick is not to let any title become "work." I've got 10-12 titles I'm actively going for, and a couple I'm just dabbling in as another change of pace. Helping guildies/friends with missions/quests/etc. takes priority over title chasing, too.

I have no plans to even BUY gw2---so I play gw for the fun of it...getting titles sometimes is fun, makes me feel good that my character achieved something if nothing else.
Yes I do have a HoM just so I can see all my armors and such in one place--wont be getting it 'full' by any means (dont really plan on getting the ugly weapons---maybe one or two just to have one, but not a whole ugly set). am getting the hero armor so I can tell my heroes apart from my guildees when we play....
so its makes no difference to me what happens with the transition from gw to gw2.

I absolutely adore threads like this!
And today - I am in the mood for an:
"Why, yes you are! Go get a significant other and you won't be alone any longer!"
Wait, what ...?

You're not alone. That's what people ARE doing.
And I am one of them. I believe the achievements in GW will make a difference in GW2 and I want to look like an uber-veteral against all the noobs
Also, I have beaten all campaigns on the same character (11 Million XP or so) and am now working on Titles and doing PvP (obviously, because of my alliance) because there's nothing else to do.
Another thing I'm doing is getting Obsidian armour. Duo Underworld with my brother as 55 on my SS. Sorted.

Sorry coudlnt resist the classic relply
TBH I think most of the title hunting has little to do with the HoM, but more to do with the "meh what else is there to do" aspect
O/C being able to pimp out your HoM is also nice

They should make the grind titles account wide.
There are many players that have now a 'Must Stick with this character' feeling.

I really only "forced" myself to get Protector of Cantha, which is the one I wear, because my character is canthan. The rest, I'm progressing with during normal play. I don't really care about any of them, and only really want to get my Black Moa, Black Moa Chick and my main 3 heroes in the Hall of Monuments.
I'll feel accomplished and like I'm done with the "prepare for Guild Wars 2" grind.

Titles for me were just fun things to work on until I maxed number 26. Since my character is older than the Survivor title I don't have it and that leaves 4 titles left if I want to reach GWAMM. Unfortunately, this probably won't happen because all of the titles that are left are just crazy grind based titles (either in time or gold required) so they won't really be any fun to max, at least to me.
Anyway, I agree there will likely be no real benefit other than cosmetic bonuses from titles/HoM in GW2, and I think that is great and the way it should be. If people want to grind to get these things, let them - I just hope they enjoy doing it.

I treat all my 10 characters equally. They are all my "main". Individually, they have all certain titles to obtain or have all ready achieved. Example, my assasin has protector of cantha, my ritualist is going for tyrian cartographer, my tyrian monk is aslo going for tyrian cartographer & vanquishing in the mean time, tyrian ranger has most reputation titles maxed... etc
I've never hesitate to buy all kinds of armor for them as long as they like it =)

I guess for me I just figure I am getting something to remind me of GW1 and that's worth getting

I am one of them. 4 more titles to go for "God Walking...". All I do at the moment is 1. drinking, 2. eating, 3. partying and 4. identifying items.
I will have to farm soon, money is going down quickly.
You are right, I bet not even ANet knows what we will be getting. But I also guess most of us played GW for ages by now and there is not much else left to do, except the urge to work on the titles.
This is bad. Titles were at first a nice addition, like PvE skills. Now they are a curse.
I am also sure that the "rewards" for titles and stuff will cause major discussions here. The HoM just keeps us grinding till GW2 is around.
And I hope they offer some better gameplay, if it comes to grind I could chose to play WoW and would have better grind.

I think titles have changed the game, but not killed it.
It gives me something to work towards, and I enjoy working towards hard titles even if it can sometimes be hard. I dont mind the grind, so to speak.

THERE WILL BE ZERO/NO/NADA PLAYING ADVANTAGE OVER A NEW PLAYER
NOT A SELLABLE MINI
NOT GOLD
NOT ANYTHING
THEY STATED ANYTHING WILL *UNLOCK* SOMETHING IN GW2 BUT IT WILL GIVE NO PLAYER AN ADVANTAGE.
and right there is a prime example of why not.
you will not br a lord among the peons. you will have to start equal poor thing

There seems to more emphasis on the title hunting-just take a look at what people are looking for in a guild in the connections forum-there's alot more ppl wanting a title hunting guild than there used to be a while back.
And I'm positive that once GW2 comes out and we GW1 vets. get to see what the rewards are, there's going to be a resurgance in GW1 just to get those titles. I'm even pretty sure that a couple of those in said resurgance will be ppl who's first GW experience is GW2, and they want the cool looking skins, so they go out and buy the GW1 stuff and just goes at it.
As for me, I do titles just because I can. Some of them actually pose a challenge (like the Vanquishers) and some are just down right fun (Drunkard XD). Right now I got bored getting titles for my tank and have been spending time with my other chars (actually, just my para lol) but I imagine in a couple months I'll be back to getting more titles for the tank. Personnally I love 'em and could really care less about the rewards in GW2-sure it's going to be cool, but that's not why I do them.

Let them spend hundreds or thousands of hours on getting the No-Life Walking Among Mere Normals title. Sad people, without a real life, family, friends shall be rewarded with a better looking starter armor in GW2, don't you think ? Otherwise we will have a tsunami of suicides of poor no-lifes...

Actually, I fully anticipate there being no advantage in GW2 at all. I expect there many be a unique skinned weapon (not unique stats, only the skin), possibly a unique mini-pet, and maybe a unique armor art and some displayable titles.

I'm working on titles because it actually gives me something to work for. Same with armor. Because I'm tired of the storyline but like the idea of killing stuff and having different armor... I just do.
Yes, I like to farm. I don't care if I have or not an advantage or not over another player (although in GW I don't). I like to kill stuff, so I do.
And yes, I have a life.

I'm not a title fan at all but for those who like them that is great. Titles for GW1 was a good thing because it gave people more things to do. One of the problems I had with titles is that you don't know what you are getting, even if it is cosmetic or not I don't want to find out that I gained all these titles just for maybe a new mini or 5 purple balloons with smiley faces on them.
I am usually on board mostly what Arenanet does but they should have told us what we are getting before they introduced titles. This way there would have been more of an incentive to achieve titles. Either way I am just really looking forward to playing Guild Wars 2.

meh i have found most titles too dull to go for, but as long as there is nothing that gives the old players advatages over the new ones then i really dont care about HoM. What would nice is if you could get the items you had stored there for a bunch of cash so you could get your elite armors on a new char but it would be crafted just like normal armor. as for the titles they would just be titles to show what accomplished in 1. the only reason i have problems with HoM is that there are PVE elitest idiots who if given an advantage will come and ruin the game early on for newer players. And that is what i want to avoid

I hope with the miniatures they'll like... grow up? And become some sort of tameable pet.
Of course it would just be cosmetics... But I would enjoy having a wind rider following me around....
or how about black moas wont be available in gw2 >.> the only way to get one is the mini one you have dedicated will somehow grow up for your future gw2 character.
destroyer weapons are just plain dumb... except the hammer.
If they give those elite armors some graphical updates in GW2 and we can gain access to them with those characters that would otherwise be unavailable that would be cool.
No clue what the hero armor things would do.... I would like a sexy spirit of acolyte jin to accompany me though o.O
Maybe the title one makes you some sort of direct descendant of the name you have reserved.
Like "Oh, You are Fox Reeveheart (the 12th?), descendant of legendary Fox Reevehear the 1st! He who defeated a god, closed the doors of komalie, sent shiro tagachi back to the underworld and defeated the iron forgeman. Greatest ally of the asurans...etc. etc. etc." And there will be little tangible benefits from that as well.

I have an armor addiction like many others. That and I actually have uses for all the armor (55 / 600 / Smite / Healer)
Only titles I am interesting in grinding are: Treasure Hunter (helps with lock-picks), Wisdom (helps with salvage), Lucky (helps with lock-picks) and the armor titles (only level five). The rest of the titles are the result of normal game play.
I really have no use for titles – I don’t mind farming if it is for drops or end chest but to farm for a title that may or may not mean anything in a game I don’t plan on buying. Sorry anet, it’s bad enough that kiddies pm asking for CoF runs and dealing with them in towns, no way I going to fight with them running around.
Thank You.

i'm not too concerned about what my titles will mean in gw2. just in case the "reward" for GWAMM is like, an everlasting sparkler.
